On the other hand, if you get both an MM pair and an FF pair, it's numerically the same as having two MF pairs. The pools of M and F still have the same numbers when you subtract two ladies and two gents.

This extra little bit of lenience should in theory be a boost for town since they have slightly more control over who pairs with who. It does break the natural law though, so it's probably not worth running.

One pairing still reducing the possible pair options of an entire half of the game significantly still causes strain though

Once per game, during the first dance, one gentleman and one lady can propose to body swap, and the gentleman becomes a lady and vice versa.

It achieves the same thing, but doesn't mess with the numbers. As a bonus, there's no forbidden love.

I've designed a dance game, here's the rough draft

18 players 4 scum.

no IC.

scum's wincon is that 1) there must be no T/T pairs left and 2) there must be an S/S pair alive.

during pre-game, scum may choose their own genders. the genders of town are randed. (you can let scum choose town's genders too but that seems like too much work for scum? and this might lead town down an unfun path of speculation)

first dance - two lynches

intermission - two NKs

2nd dance - keep lynching until all T/T are dead or all S/S pairs are dead.

i think this is a pretty fair setup. if scum choose to go S/S, S/T, S/T, that means there are 6 T/T pairings remaining. you get to kill two of them, so you have to ML 4 pairs before your S/S pair is MLed.

if scum choose S/S, S/S, they must ML 5 pairs. lmk if you think it's scumsided, then the fix would be easy - either downsize to 16p and remove a NK (so they can't kill as much leading town) or remove an NK outright if it's too scumsided.

I don't know how this went, but maybe you can do one game of this type where you only allow players to join who've never played this setup before. No alts obviously.
