Staggering games would be stupid.

Scum-siding setups to account for a large quantity of the scum players just being plain bad doesn't seem like the smoothest suggestion either. Good scum players will fool entire teams doesn't matter if there are more eyes.

Players being dumb is an unfortunate example of how the quality of the playerbase as a whole has degraded significantly compared to 2012 TM. Winning TM2018 felt like a skate in the park tbh. Not sure what an issue to personality problems would be. Players have far thinner skin nowadays. But at the same time, players are also a lot worse at dealing with personality problems breaking out in games (usually at most it's between two players, and for the most part the solution as a player in that game for such a conflict is really simple).

WRT lurking, at times its a strategy, but there should be some vetting during signups for players who have a tendency to be dead weights. Don't allow players who consistently don't play the game in period.

I think a good replacement for Team Mafia would be an annual or bi-annual mafiascum superbowl invitational that almost everyone spectates. The team part doesn't actually make tons of sense for mafia but I think people liked the idea of some games that mattered more than others kinda.

I’ll have some comments on this once Boon Wars end.

I’d mod if a BooneyToonz would be a section in it.

For starters, can you imagine what a 'meta' shitfest the last game would be? Length of event would be an issue too.

Games should be run at the same time. Of course, you can get situations where one game finishes before any of the others start (See Psychic Mafia, TM 2012).

Also Alisae's game in TM2018 finished much earlier than the others

Wouldn’t it only be an issue if we continue to implement the “coin” mechanic where people choose their roles? If no one had a way to choose their role/alignment, then the main meta argument goes away too. I think part of the problem is that we are combining issues when we need to try to isolate them.

Tbh I like the option to select, albeit I haven't experienced the alternative

I think my solution is “you get what you get” alignment/role wise. I think that displays more teamwork anyway. If you pick a team that has a Player with a noticeably worse scum play, well, you can’t just hide from that and give that role to someone else on your team. You’ll have to work as a team to help that player. From my perspective, granted it’s been years since I was in Team Mafia, the team’s actively helped those who were town, but let players who were scum more or less operate by themselves with periodic advice. That doesn’t scream team work to me.

I think my ideal situation is

Announce all the games
Let teams decide which games they get priority
Assign games
Let teams assign players to those games
Release playerlists for the games
Let teams make adjustments for potential personality clashes
Send out roles for Game 1
Begin game 1
After several game Days send out roles and begin game 2
Repeat

Definitely alleviates all the talking about other ongoing team mafia games issues that were cropping around if it goes that route. It also ensures that the team is focusing on the game that is active and they don't get stretched thin trying to follow 4 games at once.

Not to beat a dead horse, but if you want to preserve the chaotic nature of having all these games run concurrently because that chaos is essential to Team Mafia the event, that is a fair and valid argument. However, I think we need to balance what constitutes “Team Mafia” and players actually being able to enjoy the event.
