40 player mafia game

I've been able to pull it off off-site; however, I'm curious if a role madness mafia game (thathappenstohaveacult) is something that could be viable here. Is that something you'd play in?

I'm trying to see if putting it in the large theme queue (when I get the obligatory but completely unnecessary back up) is worth my while. I see no point in attempting if the general consensus is that it wouldn't fill.

You probably can. I just had a 30 player event style game, multigame, and I had people who would have joined if it weren’t for the 3 game mechanic.

It’s just a lot to mod. I have a 33 player semi in my back pocket, but I feel you really have to have advertised ahead of time, and have it aware that it’s happening.

I actually did some math and 41 is the correct number
4(scum) + 1 = total players
2 scum = 9 players
3 scum = 13 players
4 scum = 17
5 = 21
6 =25
...
10 scum = 41 players

Now, if I would play is a different question

I would probably throw some 3rd parties in rather than just straight mafia vs town.

Yeah, you're not accounting for potential multi-ball or serial killers. And you're definitely not accounting for the fact that, until the cult leader is killed (unless [redacted]), that scum group has the potential to grow every night.

I'll definitely get the word out with a neat write up or something.

My homesite had a 48 player game. There was also Wake's Role Madness.

ok but if you were to run a 41p singleball game
that would be way more unique then the other 40+ player games that were ran on this site
and I personally don't see the appeal behind multiball in this games other then to make the game faster
like, people hate multiball. Its impossible to balance

Multiball is fun late game, but it’s early game lasts longer than regular, which is the toughest time for mafia anyways. It really ends up always feeling like Scum vs Scum with town also ran, which is one of the reasons I allow scum to tie together when I run Multiball games, but that’s a really hard predicament for scum teams to get in so they can’t rely on it.

multiball sucks because like if you're actually going to put effort into playing a
game
and are actually going to be invested in its outcome you bet your ass i'd rather have it actually be legitimately a game

like normal games (not even necessarily mafia) that people actually give a fuck about have two diametrically opposing winconditions. and when you do stuff you 1) further ur own wincondition and 2) it simultaneously hurts the other team's chances (because duh)

like, if you're going to give people the opportunity to do something that furthers their own wincondition about the same but hurts team 1 more than it hurts team 2, that's bullshit. because to team 1/2 it might as well just be RNG at that point

I ran a 30p game, something like 5 mafia, 1 sk, and a cult. Mafia won in 2:1 lylo by the skin of their teeth.

Not interested in mafia theory here.

Interested if people would play a similarly built game with 40 players instead of 30.

lately I've been seeing a huge number of theme games, especially large themes, that don't apply the formula I posted in thread.
those games resulted in being not very balanced.

I think people understand that cult is multiball and requires a different type of playing strategy. Not many cults get played around here so I think people would flock to it.

With that large of a playerlist, you could do a lot of fun things to speed the game up. Double Day seems like the simplest. Give mafia a bookie, two scum groups with the same alignment but only know one member in each, throw in some vigs, etc. Sometimes people really want role madness.
