Game Moderator and Player Reviews

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sat Nov 02, 2019 9:50 pm

I thought of this recently and was thinking if we had a system in place for reviewing players and or mods it might help with improving games by allowing players to see what moderators are best to play with if they are on the fence or to avoid players if they don't like playing.

The idea would be completely anon reviews of players/moderators who in to be reviewed (because it has to be opt in otherwise I think some people would feel its inappropriate).

might help with moderators/players who want to improve to be better so as to improve the sites opinion on them.

actually if its completely optin seems like there wouldn't be enough information on the playerbase/modbase as a whole to actually give people info on whether to play certain games or not. Idk.

Someone tell me if this idea is stupid or not.

There is a system for Newbie Mods, I think, and I'm sure that the Large Theme Queue used to do it.

I think that as long as it's constructive criticism its fine - I remember the only way I found out I had made a modding error (after I'd taken over a game) was when I was nominated for best mod and mastina shot me down spectacularly for that one mistake in ten or so games that year.

My only concern is the extra work it puts on a list mod, because it's another admin task to stay on top of.

When I was listmod for the large theme queue, I did an anonymous survey that was sent to all players of each finished large theme game. I ended up having 72 games that went through my queue with. It offered some value as a way to get player feedback to mods, but was pretty susceptible to certain players being fussier than others in their ratings, and players are generally not very good at determining balance.

Regardless, it's a pretty high effort thing to have to do as a listmod, which I was able to do only because there aren't a ton of Large Themes at any given time.

I think if it could just be a "good, average, bad" thing rather than a number rating, that would cut down on the subjectivity.

Why would this have to be a listmod function rather than something 1 person is assigned to do and that's the only 1 thing that person does??

List Mod would be the obvious solution, but a 'feedback dude or dudette' position might also work. Maybe mix it with mishmash too.

Obvious as in "the first thing you think of" or obvious as in obviously preferable? Because I think it's obviously preferable for it to be tied up into one person as one role. Aside from the workload, if Nexus is the listmod for the Blizzaga queue, and my favorite types of games to mod are Blizzaga queue games, and I play a Normal Queue game with Nexus and he calls me an Excalipoor, when I want to submit a bad feedback review I don't want to submit it to Nexus, ideally.

the idea would it be anon so nexus wouldn't see who it is from if he was hosting it anyways,

but when I originally was thinking of this I was also thinking it being hosted by one person similarly to how the replacement queue is handled.

I don't know, i just assumed List Mod would make the most sense.

It could be like the Anon Qs thread or Title Fairy though where it gets passed around.

Penguin already does this for the Newbie queue.

I can easily implement this for the Open Queue if the demand is there.
