After MBoS, eventhough we won, I wanted to say to scum, something along the lines of “how do you sleep at night?”. Fortunately, I thought better of it and thankfully now, at least have one less out of a gazillion stupid things to apologize for.In post 325, Psyche wrote:it just feels so disingenuous and fake sometimes**********We just need to tread carefully because if you slip up around her as scum she notices and will tear your spine out and slap you to death with it. I see a lot less toxicity in marathon games vs queue games.
Is it because of the mentality that marathon games are 'just for fun' vs queue games 'dead serious'? Or because you don't have time for toxicity because you need to be spamming those posts?
I feel that queue games heat up because ego and character collision, nothing more. And if those players play with/vs each other irl, the same toxicity will be there. It's got nothing to do with forum vs rl imo.Rawr!

i see the same factor driving toxicity in league of legends games. just as there's less toxicity in mafia marathons, there's less toxicity in lol arams.
when a game is long and it's difficult to come back from deficits, a teammate's mistake can lock you into a hell of suffering that lasts until the game is over
when a game is short or mistakes are easy to come back from, a teammate's mistakes can be inconvenient but don't affect you as much. it's a lot easier to let it go.- popsofctown

Um I saw quite some toxic last marathon weekend"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."

I find that games that have a dynamic that puts the emphasis on town hunting > scum hunting, to generally be less toxic in general.**********We just need to tread carefully because if you slip up around her as scum she notices and will tear your spine out and slap you to death with it. To go on the original premise and not anything since, I reckon the fact that people have crossed the pond to visit us and vice versa (I've done it what? 3 times now) and have really close friends from this site would disprove this theory. In post 0, Alisae wrote:is from the game itself.
Its not fun.
It pisses people off.
It doesn't work as a competative game or a fun party game.
In a competative video game, you have a clear chance to just whoop some ass if you are a good player.
Do you really have that option in Mafia?
In a fun party game, your friends can get into it and, have fun.
But in Mafia, what happens is you get into fights and get mad at each other and start yellin.
The only time you get to really connect with your friends is when you're shitposting memes and literally not playing mafia.
And then you get to late game where honestly, no one really cares at all they just want the game to be over because the game has just gone on for way too long.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.- chkflip

I think the rule about discussing ongoing games contributes a lot to onsite toxicity. It doesn't permit players from doing stuff like post in a passive aggro way in reference to ongoing games without explicitly mentioning the game in question.MY PRONOUNS ARE THEY/THEM
do not assume my posts follow coherency they do not imagine that every time i post i put half of my knowledge into a clone and then the clone murders me- bugspray

This rule is to protect ongoing games integrity and is very important. Maybe it should be enforced more strickly then, if people think that they can break it by avoiding to name ongoing gameIn post 339, bugspray wrote:I think the rule about discussing ongoing games contributes a lot to onsite toxicity. What ever happened to thinking it was funny when people got legit angry at one another? Like, current site meta, a lot of people I used to have fun playing with would've been banned before I had the opportunity to play with them. This place is getting soft."Fuck you. I opened up my heart to you and you stabbed it a thousand times." - Gamma, to me, right before confessing to being the town vig and murdering my scum partner N1.- Nero Cain

scum reading a player isn't toxic. If someone can't handle being suspected then they need thicker skin/a grip on reality. In post 317, profii wrote:I never played with skitter or pops before and I didnt find they play style to radiate town anywhere near as much as everyone else in the thread so I was hella confused and it really drove me to scum read skitter in particular which probably came across toxically (or at least I felt it did) (hurrah for making up words!)
I also think that if two big personalities think different things and there can only be one outcome then it causes alot of friction.Of all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

My guess is that it was a result of some of the really nasty site drama from like 5 years ago.In post 344, chkflip wrote:What ever happened to thinking it was funny when people got legit angry at one another? But yes, as a whole the site is a lot more sensitive than it used to be and that's probably not going to change. This is a Parachute.- springlullaby
