Inverse-Weak modifier needs a name

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Wed Apr 14, 2021 2:08 pm

Post by TemporalLich »

Inverse-Weak is a modifier that causes you to unavoidably die if you successfully target a Town player.

Inverse-Weak really isn't a name however, so I am posting this thread to ask for names for this modifier.

I'd suggest Reclusive or Penitent, but this thread is meant to ask a question.

This isn't a term-replacement thread, as there is no term to begin with.

I think Vain is currently my favorite among the suggestions, but am also aware that this will force me to post

Spoiler:

I am undecided if that is a feature of the name or a drawback.

that does sound similar to Desperado (Role) but Inverse-Weak is similar to Desperado so it's not a bug.

I dunno if desperate is an established thing but it was used more than once I think? I know it was used here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=85633

as "If your action succeeds, you will die."

thinking lore-wise maybe something like Wanted?

I’m inclined not to overwrite modifiers used by booneytoonz.

I really like wanted, tbh, although I feel like that’s another term that might already have an association I’m unaware of.

It's too bad though. Desperate seems like it would otherwise be a pretty good one.

I like penitent. I think it makes it clear what the role does.

Your action will only succeed if your target is someone who is aligned with Dark Fairies or appears to be aligned with Dark Fairies. If your action succeeds, you will die.

overriding that with inverse weak definition seems fine given that the boony desperate is loyal + inverse weak.

I will go into more detail for every role here on different acceptable variations and motions with specific roles and/or mechanics.

*Other mutations are acceptable, but it
must
be stated in the Role PM. If it changes the role to something not on the Role Book, it’s not a mutation, it’s a Variant. Mutations may later be added into their own slot if it seems like it should be relevant enough. Mutations can be listed on the Checklist if a new Mutation will be in the game.

Mutations
Traitor
- Can be used as a role name or a general mechanic. This means it doesn’t need to state in their role name that they are a traitor for Role Cop purposes, but it
does
need to be shown in their Role PM, and should reveal on flip. They can be recruited by scum night kill or killed by scum night kill. This is up to the mod. They may also auto join Mafia thread if all members die. This should be added into the Role PM.

Desperate
- Like Disloyal, but works against Millers and similar. Mod may also make it so where if they would target successfully, like if they had a Disloyal modifier, they die.

Vengeful
- May be forced to shoot on the wagon that killed them or can shoot anyone.

My hesitation with penitent is that it implies the death is due to mistargeting and there ARE roles that want to target town. Like doctor.

Is this something that could be generalized beyond mafia and town? For example I could imagine for the sake of this post a role that dies if it targets a serial killer, or some other third party, or werewolves in a game with distinct mafia and werewolves. If we can't come up with anything specific to town then thinking about it this way might be helpful.

Weak dies if it targets Non-Town, so therefore Inverse-Weak dies if it targets Town.

would be worth thinking of for Themes or GIM variants

Still think Vain is the best name even for a Doctor.
