The Mafia and the Survivor win. If the Survivor didn't win in that situation, what would be the difference between him and a townie?

A townie can win even if they die.

The Survivor wins if they are still alive when the game ends. In your scenario I'd say the Mafia and the Survivor would win. If they didn't they would be a Survivor/Townie combination, which is a pretty bastardly role.

Oh yeah. Duh. :|

Survivor can still win with the mafia though. The whole point is that they're not on anyone's side; if they have to get the mafia killed too, then they're just a townie with additional bastardry on their win condition.

Good point. So, basically, a Survivor just has to be alive when the game's over?

Is there any way to see when the last time someone logged in was? Only thing I'm aware of is last post.

Nope, no way. You can watch the "Currently logged in" list at the bottom of the index page, but some people are hiding their status to avoid this sort of metagaming.

Actually, the first post you make is counted as your zeroth post making your second post be taken as your first, hence he has hit 100 posts but his post count hasn't registered it because it's one post behind him.

In any case though, your 100th post shouldn't be "this is my 100th post" it should be something good that also mentions that it is your 100th post.

Actually it's because posts in MD and GD aren't counted in post counts, nor are mish-mash or any other non-mafia forums.

Good try though, Mr. Expert!

Hi, not sure if this is the place to post this but I have a question that must be pretty common.

How do you defend yourself after being accused of being scum as town? I just completed my first game and since I wasn't sure how to defend myself I went all Sun tzu and chalked it up to, "if you're accused of being scum then you're doing it wrong." So, I pretty much tried to look as town as possible and the only player who seriously tried to or even suspected me was scum. That said, when he did eventually start building a case against me, I was accused of 1. flailing and 2. ignoring his arguments/not properly addressing his points.

Generally, I could not really figure out a way to come off as "not scum" when an actual case was brought against me, so I was wondering if there is a way to address accusations and properly defending yourself.

I can't figure out a way to provide a link to the point where I started to defend myself, but that's okay because I'm just looking for some general advice. if this is not the place for this, I'll delete the post. :]

Your "Sun Tzu" method is fairly effective, actually - not being suspected in the first place is the easiest way to avoid problems. That said, when you do get suspected, try to get as many specifics as possible from your accuser. If they're Town, you have somewhere to start reasoning with them (unless they're just going by gut/PoE, and sometimes even then). If they're Scum, you can often trip them up or make them say something they don't want to, about you or somebody else. More information is good, to a point.

"Flailing" is an overused term, but at a guess you may have become emotional? People on this site tend to react badly to that in an accused, better (sometimes) if you're the accuser.

Just figured out how to link it, it started on this page. http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... &start=900 it concludes on page 39 (when I replace out, I replace back in later).

To make sure I understand, you're saying that I should ask them to be as clear as possible with their accusation and to try to compromise with them. You're saying I should ask because it creates evidence on the accuser and helps us hunt scum (as long as it doesn't turn into a derail)?

It's that's what you meant, then thank you. :] Still, I don't know if going for a compromise lynch/clarifying information is necessarily defending myself effectively, just helping the town hunt. In general, I thought there were two parts to a defense: acting pro-town when under pressure and deconstructing their argument to reveal its flaws.

I guess my question is more towards the latter, in that I want to defend myself against their accusations more than I'm interested in knowing how to appear pro-town when accused by someone.

I don't know how people can't defend themselves as town. Defending myself is probably my strongest aspect to a game. If you are town and you can rationally explain your actions than there should be no issues. Don't freak out if people don't beleive you either, just move on and keep hunting scum.

1. It's just a game, have fun.
2. Don't waste time on people who think you are scum. Ignore them and keep scum hunting.
3. Don't take everything so personal.
4. Tunneling sucks (unfortunately I can't seem to stop)

I understand where you're coming from, but if that were true, we wouldn't get lynched so much. It requires more than just appearing to scum hunt and explaining your behavior, it requires convincing people that it is the case and that your version of events is the real one.

It seems like each response leads to refining my original question. :?

good point I guess. When I defend myself I do so with arrogance. Like how dare they lie about me. idk it works for me but of course I haven't been scum but only once and was lynched so...
