- My mod colour is lilac; don't colours resembling it.
Behaviour
- Don’t be a dick. This is a heated game but below the belt attacks will not be tolerated. Attack the play not the player.
Don't talk about ongoing games
- You may not talk to each other about this game outside of threads I have created for this purpose. You may not talk about other ongoing games in this thread.
Animated GIFs
- are of the devil, but they are permitted behind spoilers if clearly labelled as such.
Tiny text
- is also of the devil, keep it 70+ please.
Provable randomness
- is against the rules. Saying that you rolled a dice is fine, using dice tags or random.org is not.
- You have about 72 hours to confirm your role and your alignment by PM. Game will start sooner if everyone confirms. Posting in a private topic counts as confirmation.
Days
- Days last about 14 days, starting at 9am CET and ending at 2 PM CET. Extensions may be granted if there are replacements.
Activity
- You must post at least once every 48 hours or I will Prod you. You then have 24 hours to post in the game thread or I will replace you. The activity timers run at half-speed on weekends. If you need to be absent for longer than this, you should declare
V/LA
in bold in the thread like this: [
b]
@Mod: I will be v/la until Thursday
[
/b]. Players can request me to prod somebody early. This will only count as an official prod if you don't post before you would have been due for a prod.
Prodging
- A naked "prod dodge" does not reset the prod timer. To avoid being prodded/replaced for inactivity, include some game advancing content in your prodges, such as "got prodded; xxxx is still scum."
Quoting
- You may not quote (or copy paste) any private information into the thread, including your role PM and any mod communication.
Voting
- Votes must be in bold in the format VOTE: Plotinus or
Vote: Plotinus
. Strong preference for using vote tags instead of bold tags. Unvotes are nice but not required. If I think it’s a vote, it’s a vote, no tricks. Type [
v]Plotinus[
/v] to vote and [
uv]Plotinus[
/uv] to unvote.
Lynching
- Days end early when a simple majority of players (50% of living players + 1 rounded down) vote to lynch somebody. If a majority is not reached at deadline or if a majority of the players vote for no lynch, the day will end without a lynch. At evens, 50% is sufficient for no lynch.
Twilight
- Begins when a majority is reached and lasts until I lock the thread. You're still alive until I flip you so you can talk in any game threads you have access to until then, but no votes or unvotes will be counted.
Night
- Night lasts at least 48 hours, ending at 9am CET. The night phase can be shortened if every living player -- even those with no night actions -- agrees to it and if I'm not busy.
Action submissions
- You may submit actions via PM (if town) or PT (if scum). If the actions are not submitted by the deadline then you do nothing. You can change your mind as many times as you like before the deadline.
Reminders
- If I don't hear from you about your night actions, I'll PM you 24 hours before the deadline. This doesn't count as a prod. If I still don't hear from you, you will take no action.
All role PMs have been sent out (in the order of the signup list so timestamps mean nothing)! We will start in (expired on 2017-02-14 09:00:00) or when [8/9] people have confirmed, whichever happens sooner.
The above clock and any others used throughout this game will be accurate from the time you loaded the page.
Hi Guys! I'm Drixx and I am the IC for this game. IC is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek designation. It stands for "Inexperienced challenged". If you think of something like "Physically challenged" or "Musically Challenged", it will click. Apart from playing the game, I have the additional job of answering any questions you have about the game, basic mafia game theory and thing specific to the site, for those of you familiar with the game who may have played elsewhere.
There are a few things I like to cover every as IC:
Since I will be giving advice and answering questions, your natural tendency will be to view me more positively than you might otherwise. You should not base your read of me on anything I say as IC in response to questions or as advice. I will do my best to make it clear when I'm saying something as IC. Roles and alignment are randomly assigned, so I have just as much of a chance as any other slot of being scum (2 out of 9) or town (7 out of 9).
Don't be afraid to ask questions. That's what I'm here for.
An active game is a fun game. Be active and post as much as you can and interact with the other players.
Don't be afraid to make mistakes! It's perfectly okay and is in fact expected. Making mistakes is the best way to learn and rapidly improve at forum mafia.
Mafia can sometimes be a bit heated and you might feel attacked. This is a natural part of the game. As long as you confine your attacks to someone's PLAY and not to the person at the keyboard, you are within the bounds. If you find yourself frustrated, it's not only acceptable but I would argue it's a great idea to get up and go do something else and come back calm.
Mislynches are probably going to happen. Perfect games are rare. Don't be afraid to follow your convictions, and don't be discouraged if the results aren't perfect.
There are also a few game quirks that I like to cover as IC:
Most games start with an RVS/RQS (Random vote/question stage). Some people dislike using RQS as answers to questions can be manipulated easily, but if you want to ask some general questions just to break the ice, feel free to do so. The purpose of the RVS/RQS is simply to break the ice and get some momentum going. At some point it will go from random silliness to actual game play and the game will shift. This often happens when one player gets enough votes to be 1 or 2 votes short of lynch.
We generally refer to how far away from a lynch someone is by using
L-X
where X is how many more votes it would take to lynch the player. Unlike some other sites, there is no vote threshold where a person would be lynched if the day ends but can be backed away from. If a player receives the number of votes necessary to be lynched, that will end the day and they will be lynched. This cannot be undone.
Because of the above point, it's customary to give a player warning if you are going to cast the final vote to lynch them. Casting the final vote is often called "hammering" or "the hammer vote", and if you are planning to do that, you should give a
BOLDED
notice to them and allow them to have a chance to claim, respond and try to persuade you to change your mind (or others voting for them) or even just to leave their final reads and thoughts. Generally the warning is given as something like
Intent to hammer <player name>.
Due to the way hammering works on this site, it is also generally a custom practice to warn the rest of the players if you are placing the vote which puts the player at
L-1
, or one vote away from being lynched. You can do this by simply saying something like
Warning, <playername> is at L-1. Do not hammer without giving intent first.
That about covers the basics. I think I'll get us started with a VOTE: RadiantCowbells
So, over the last few months while I was not playing Mafia I have been working on strategies to up town's winrate in this setup and since I have finally rolled town I am going to put them into action.
The correct play at the beginning of D1 in this setup is for the 1-Shot Bulletproof, if any, to claim. This helps town immensely in numerous setups. Why am I advocating this?
1) It is fucking insane for scum to try to claim 1-shot BP in this situation. It is an insane risk play which forces a 1v1 in 5/6 setups and gets minor towncred in 1/6.
2) If the setup is Roleblocker/Jailkeeper/1-Shot BP, it's easy for the BP claim to be disbelieved. The claim coming at the start of the game makes it far more trustworthy.
3) If the setup is Tracker/1-Shot BP/Goon, the Tracker knows that there is no doc and can be a lot safer on claiming. Note that mathematically the correct play is to target the outed tracker if the other PR is not known; so little potential gain is made here.
4) If the setup is Tracker/Doc/Goon, a living tracker will know by the lack of a BP claim that there is a doctor. He can then claim safely and be doctor protected the entire game. Which sucks because I'm going to get guaranteed nightkilled but I'll get over it.
Since the 1-Shot Bulletproof doesn't actually net town a mislynch by being hit it is not actually specifically valuable for it to bait the hit.
This does come at the cost of narrowing down the game possibilities for scum: but I believe that the reward is well worth the price.
2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.
Since I don't know anybody here, I'm just going to vote for the only experienced player who hasn't posted yet, because rage against the machine or whatever.
Admittedly I was debating this but I've chosen to trust Radiant and his judgement on the Bulletproof Townie thing and if this turns out to be a dumb idea we can press him on that, hopefully this doesn't mess up the popcorn order but I would rather get this out of the way before I lose any more credibility.
I am claiming 1-Shot Bulletproof Townie.
Sorry if you wanted it to be a stronger player, but hopefully figuring out the role list makes up for that.
HighKingDestro replaces pichii and Killthestory replaces glowball, both of whom didn't pick up their role PMs. They have (expired on 2017-02-17 15:00:00) to confirm or they will be replaced.
I'd rather we didn't sit here and discuss the BP claim in lieu of RVS because I feel like it might make it easy for scum to discover who the remaining PR is depending on who they are.
So, uh, Cass didn't vote me so she's scum >:]

My RVS vote stands on Killthestory even though glowball was replaced however I'm not sure if replacing out makes the vote null. VOTE: Killthestory
I like books so I am not fond of your ideology.
Keep in mind I am literally figuratively and metaphorically a 100% confirmed Townie so you might as well claim now.

Do you guys use /s to indicate sarcasm here?

This is likely irrelevant now since we have a BP claim but I was under the impression that doc was unable to protect the same person twice in a row?

Not RVS maybe a little OMGUS.
"Off to a bad start"? This is your first post and only half the players have posted so far so I find that a very strange thing to say. Sounds like to me that your nervous.
Regarding your vote, I assume it's RVS but I deserve some bantery reason for why you voted for me. I claimed BP Townie and if I understand correctly unless somebody counter claims that would nearly confirm me as town, so I'm just going to kindly ask that you remove your vote and explain yourself for reasons above.
I'm going to spend some time now thinking about whether you just broke Matrix 6, RC ... out of everything I was preparing for to try and sort you, a mechanical approach to the game wasn't on the list. As always, you are schooling me.
Obviously if there's a doctor or a cop, then a 1-shot BP cannot exist and the correct move is to simply counterclaim, without saying what you are. Obviously since the only roles who can counterclaim 1-shot BP are a doctor or a cop, then we end up losing a strong power role (unless we're in RB-doctor-cop and the cop counterclaims and the doc protects them) in exchange for a scum gambiting 1-shot BP.
Which I would normally just assume was the point of what RC did, except it's RC and RC's gambits tend to be much more subtle. Having a teammate fake claim BP for one of the two obvious reasons to do so strikes me as way more aggressive than I would expect. It would lead to the loss of the teammate and necessarily mean that he would have to win out in 3-man LYLO. So tinfoil hat aside, going to probably go with town!RC here.
