They could then pretend to investigate their scum buddies, or pretend to investigate townies to gain our trust in them. They could get away with this for at least a night phase or two while the real cops were being killed off. Then of course suspicion would fall on them as to why they weren't killed, but again, scum could decide to spare a real cop in the same manner to make us suspect them. Whole lot of WIFOM I know. I vote yes to hypoclaim, useful, but I'm just saying it's not at straightforward as we might like.
Going-To-Vote: Archaist
1. Putting too much effort in trying to look good.
2. Trying to make town paranoid.
3. Too much effort in looking at scum's best strategy.Plus, if you guys want to make a point, skip the walls, because everyone else in the game does as well. - Magister Ludi-

Anyone else find it weird when a question gets asked, then not answered, then it's not followed up by the asker?

No. That question was to give me a feel of the gamer and engage me in the game. It became redundant once I saw Achoist's post.Plus, if you guys want to make a point, skip the walls, because everyone else in the game does as well. - Magister Ludi-

Yes, I understand now. The mass fake-claiming/fake-investigating had me confused. As I mentioned in my earlier post I thought it would be a role claim, hence my apprehension. If we're going to follow the cop, and the fake investigations will help protect them, then perhaps a no lynch would be in order as soon as everyone claims an investigation target.Korts wrote:Archaist, my problem isn't that you consider scum tactics, it's that you discuss them openly and in detail when it's not important to do so. The hypocop system is not invalidated by scum fakeclaiming gambits as long as the town takes the effort to analyse the situation. However, speculation about potential situations in the future is futile and a waste of space, and thus an easy way for scum to look like they're contributing when they're, in fact, not. And that is what I'm accusing you of.

Vote: No Lynch
Also,
Aren't you also asking for clarification here?Empking wrote:In whaqt way is asking for clarification scumhunting? Fake or otherwise?
No. I'm trying to argue that KK's point is an absurd misrepresentation of the point that I struggle to see how a member of the town could come to it.
Not everything has to be scumhunting.

Is this a question I should answer, or will you just be distracted by something else and not care about the answer?
And if you don't care about the answer, doesn't that just mean that your questions are meaningless? And if your questions are meaningless, then that means that you're doing something that looks pro-town (i.e. asking questions), but without the pro-town motive (i.e. to uncover scum).
No I'd like an answer. In what way is asking for clarification scumhunting? Fake or otherwise?
You say it doing something that looks pro-town (i.e. asking questions) as if everybody is an idiot who goes "Ooh, a question mark! I'm putting Empking into my town list.". Do you think that I was trying to look pro-town by doing something which even in the best light isn't something that looks exceptionally pro-town?Plus, if you guys want to make a point, skip the walls, because everyone else in the game does as well. - Magister Ludi-

What makes you think that? I want to investigate Oman because I want to live!
What a scum-oriented way of looking at things. Very survivalist.
Are you even trying now? The idea you're putting forward is that I'm scum faking a hypocop on a player I have a town read on so that my fake hypocop doesn't leave me getting killed?

Korts is a waste of a Cop. No way is he scum (unless Oman is also scum.)
So you're mildly suspicious of Oman after all?

Why? But you see an association between the two?

I'm sorry, I'm hesitant to see the logic here. Surely if there is a wagon on scum, the push would be to move into onto town. Or if town is directing it, then the wagon doesn't define who is scumbuddies, because the town doesn't know that, they only have independent scumhits.
At the heart of it, I really don't understand this sentence at all. Why does the wagon going from me to korts indicate that we're buddies?
I'm town. Therefore unless you or cyberbob are his buddy then at least one scumbag had to decide to do a stupid bus away from you. I don't see that happening. I suppose Cyber could be his buddy.Plus, if you guys want to make a point, skip the walls, because everyone else in the game does as well. - Magister Ludi-
