I realized I forgot to mention this in the votecounts on Day 2 when we were visiting Drumadoon. The country rock here is actually Triassic not Permian in age.In post 210, Guyett wrote:

Some of the coolest features at this section of beach are the fulgurites. Fulgurites are essentially fossilized lightning strikes!!! They are formed when lightning strikes sand. Modern examples can be found around the world in deserts but apparently the best place to find them is in golf courses where lightning has hit a bunker
