General Rules

All site rules are to be followed.
You may not quote any private mod communication, nor may you pretend to do so. This includes but is not limited to your Role PM and anything posted in a PT by the mod. Paraphrasing is okay. If you are unsure on whether something has been sufficiently paraphrased, please err on the side of caution and run it by me first.
You may directly quote from the game thread into any PT you have been provided for the game (such as the scum thread), but you may not quote from the PT into the main thread. You may, however, use your PT to draft a post with the intent to post it in the main thread, so long as you do not directly quote it when making the transition.
Discussing this game outside of moderator-provided methods of communication is forbidden. This includes contacting any other player via PM, Skype, or other means to discuss anything game related.
Using provable randomness is forbidden. Saying you rolled a dice is fine; using dice tags is not.
If you have the ability to edit your posts, please refrain from doing so.
Do not attempt to impersonate the mod. I’ll be using

Activity Rules

I will prod after 48 hours of inactivity. You will then have 48 hours to post in-thread before I begin searching for a replacement.
If the number of times I've prodded you exceeds 3, I will begin searching for a replacement.
Naked prod dodges will not reset the timer. You must include some kind of game-related content with your post.
Weekends will count as 1 day for activity purposes. This will not affect the deadline timer.
Prod timers will not reset overnight.
Please PM me when announcing V/LA as an extra precaution in case I miss it. If you have regular V/LA periods please notify me of this pregame.

Setup & Mechanics

You're pretty much fucked.
Day phases will be 2 weeks (14 days) long, and night phases will be 2 days (48 hours) long.
Extensions may be granted in the cases of replacements and site downtime. They will not be granted just because you can’t reach a consensus.
To vote, please use the vote tags (VOTE: Player).
Votes that misspell or have other minor errors will still be counted as a vote so long as I understand who it is meant for.
Eliminations are based off simple majority (half the living players + 1, rounded down) voting to eliminate someone. If no majority is reached by deadline, or a simple majority votes no elimination, then a no elimination will occur. At evens, half the living players is sufficient to no elimination.
Twilight begins when a elimination occurs, and lasts until I lock the thread for the flip. During this time, you may still post regardless of who was eliminated. However, no votes or unvotes will be counted in this time.

Setup & Mechanics(But Actually Helpful)

XP System

-At the start of the game, each player starts with

0.25 XP

-When a player dies from elimination, players who voted for the eliminated player receives

0.5 XP

-A player may gift

1 XP

to another player sharing the same neighborhood.
-A player may spend

-All actions regarding gifting or spending XP can be done at any time.
-Each tree contains a 4th hidden ability, that is unlocked after maxing out a skill tree.
-Engineer allows a player to target anyone, and upgrade the players Role PM.
-PM me to spend

XP

to upgrade any skill tree.
-Abilities will be explained to you after purchase in a PM.

Challenges

-Challenges will take place during the entire Day phase.
-Challenges are completely voluntary.
-Challenges grant

-Your first post of each day must state if you'd like to participate using the bold tag.
-Each challenge will be posted in the Day opening post and will be linked on the front page.
-You may give up

0.25 XP

to retry the challenge if either you fail to bold tag the first post or fail the challenge outright.
-A retry will only count if the user makes 5 posts within 48 hours.
--A retry must be stated using bold tags in the thread.
--Must retry before what would have been their next challenge post
--A retry bold tag counts the same as "I will participate"

Action Resolution

-Any actions relating to neighborhoods or XP, in any way, shape or form, are considered instantaneous and not involved in action resolution.
-A player is able to use multiple powers in one phase. Limits on the amount of powers used would be clarified to a player in their role PM.
-For night phase action resolution. I follow the golden rule. Modified actions occur before unmodifiable actions. Click Golden Rule for the wiki breakdown.

While choking on the banana, Pooky panicked and threw the banana to the ground and ran to get help. However he threw it directly in front of his feet and slipped on the banana peel! Roles may not align with your assumptions of what it does based off the wiki. It is really important to note that there is potential for differences in what the wiki states, and how a role functions in the game. What I designed the roles to be will always supersede the wiki.

Gypyx was having a great day. He got a four four for four meals for his team to celebrate a great start to their ventures. Sadly, they ended up throwing out their wallet with the garbage and had to go to the DMV to get a new license. Gypyx grabbed a ticket for the queue and was excited that he got B14 and B12 was just called! Gypyx took a seat and started to wait. A10-A14 were called, then C1-23, then D12-24, then E76-800; and B13 got called! Gypyx jumped up with excitement but then was heartbroken to find he still had one more number to go. F2-F2000, G35-50000, H1500-429482 were called and on and on the queue went. Days turned to weeks into months. Gypyx lost track of time and all sense of reality and started to meld into the chair. Gypyx finally became immortalized with the chair fusing completely with it. There he remains stuck eternally waiting at the DMV.

Last night, I upgraded my role. I'll be honest, I was really hoping for a "fuck you, town" role like turning into a Jester, gaining a Vengeful, or even a supersaint.

Sadly, I'm town and thus, even the ability I inherited from my upgrade was town. Specifically,

Once I received the role, I asked about the interactions with a commuter.
Ginngie said that commuters cannot act while commuting, at all. I asked about multitasking and Ginngie reiterated that commuting means cannot act and thus that a commuter cannot kill while commuting. (Now, this is not how the role works in Normals, since in Normals, a multitasking commuter can in fact use other actions including the nightkill while commuting. But this is the opposite of a Normal Game, so whatever Ginngie says, goes.)

to be scum. jjh cannot kill while commuting. Now, it's a bit hard to consistently confirm that jjh is commuting (theoretically, jjh could have a bulletproof every time any single slot would vig; theoretically, jjh can rolestop an investigative action on him, so a vig failing and an investigation failing are both easy enough to fairly consistently arrange), but while we haven't seen much in the way of scum kills and confirming that jjh is definitely commuting during a night that scum are definitely killing is difficult (the only player who ON THEIR OWN could confirm jjh was commuting was Roden and the night Roden did so, there wasn't a
confirmed
scum kill), it still
vastly
decreases the odds of jjh being scum.

Yume successfully masonized me. It's called "Yume's Masonry", Ginngie gave me a link to the mason PT, said it was a mason PT, and the OP says welcome to the masonry. Now, while Ginngie didn't say we're explicitly conftown to each other in any of those messages, I imagine that's another example of Ginngie's laziness (I don't want to call Ginngie out on this but Ginngie has in fact been fairly lazy in a lot of the roles; my vig PM was literally "works like a standard Vig"), so when it's not 10 PM when I get up at 3:30 am for work, I can go through the motions of asking the mod if we're confirmed but like. 99% should be confirmed, just need to make it official.

What that means is that none of them are scum.

Titus is the original masonizer, and cannot be scum as a consequence.
LLD is the original masonized and was nightkilled N1 and thus cannot be scum as a consequence.
Pooky flipped town and thus cannot be scum as a consequence.

Shiro was the one who revived LLD--not

unlikely
to be scum.

And Frozen Angel literally guiltied scum and has been town ten times over in ten different ways so is just not scum.

Some personal notes: A couple things majorly affected the quality of the set up. First of all, the same time the game finished sign ups and had to do the 2nd half of designing the game, I got super sick; which made it hard to think and concentrate. You could see me messing up a lot during the opening day. That impacted how I designed the games. Another was that the bulletproof was supposed to come second to the bodyguard. That was a giant mod error that led to super easy protection from the beginning of the game. Also, in my upicks it's a fact that I'll lie in some of the roles. However, I get deeply upset with myself if I end up lying unintentionally with mod errors and such. So if that happened to you just know I try my best not to make the same mistakes and future games will account for the issues raised.

Mechanical notes: I believe the game would have had less mod errors if I didn't try to use the XP system as well as the upick system. I really should have focused on one or the other. Which is why i'll have an open set up in my game rotations in the future that use the XP system; then just the upick system for its own game. Also in every single upick I design, I use a method called smalltown. Which essentially means I design every single role and then give alignments to those roles after the fact. Balancing smalltown is as hard enough as is; and adding the time constraint of designing roles in 14 days or less proved very difficult and I couldn't manage that. Especially after not modding for a few years. As to why there was so many protections. Put simply people could get hidden abilities by the 2nd day or night and there was a world where the 3 scum each get 3 vigs and kill 4 people in one night. If both day phases and one night phase town was eliminated, it would be 3v7. Scum having a factional kill and 3 vig shots could quite literally shoot 4 people and it would be 3v3 and they won the game. So scum could have won theoretically on night 2 without an insane amount of protections. Also the reason for having so many investigations is because masons were a lie and were just a hood, and miller and ninja existing so there would be a lot of potential for fake guilties fake innocents. Oh and I thought a succubus was a vampire when i googled it so shiro was also on the block for Rodens coin.

Oh btw JJH there was in fact a 4th skill tree but it was scrapped in set up. Basically there would have been alignment changers and a bunch of other busted roles with it's own PT to chat in. However that was scrapped because I decided to remove alignment changes this game.

1. yeah it was actually a giant fuck up that I included bulletproofs to be unlocked super early so I really I agree with you here.
2. I was very liberal with who could be upgraded with engineer because I wanted to make sure everyone could play their role to the full potential and not have it be wasted.
3. I think a huge missed opportunity was giving scum their own skill tree. I honestly would have implemented a skill tree similar to what JJH posted but I just didn't think of it sadly.
4. In regular games yeah I wouldn't do this, however this particular game I run I do it because for lolreasons. I gotta be honest that wont change but what will is advertising my games to explicitly to be taken seriously or not to be taken seriously and to play for shits.
5. Also challenges were another example of adding too many mechanics instead of focusing on a select few. JJH was a demon tho with challenges literally breaking every challenge and I gotta give props to him for that. Also yeah they were hard, but that was also the point, there were 9 players but only one participated the final day. That was on purpose to gatekeep how much XP was in play.
6. I agree. I actually think I made the game too normal and felt like a regular game of role maddness. I didn't see a lot of interactions that were spectacular which I'll be shooting for in a future upick.
7. When you've been playing mafia for 10 plus years, at some point it's nice to just play a game where you dont have to care. That's the point of the upicks. Pooky had the best mentality for this game of saying I dont trust shit what the mod says and do shit for the lolz. Again it may not make sense, but this style of game is tailored for that mentality.

oh I forgot to mention in my game end post that another critical error is that in my previous game where I had a market, it was balanced because I calculated how much possible money could be generated, then changed the cost of items so the amount of XP possible equated to how much XP the total cost of the items were. This game I didn't run those numbers which was a big mistake. I actually added challenges because I didn't think the XP earned was enough. Simply checking the math I more than likely would have gotten rid of challenges all together or eliminated the wagon XP. Oh well, lessons for future games

BTW this was game was townsided and I designed it to be townsided given my games have always been scumsided but I overcorrected.

Mafia theory gives scum a 60:40 chance of winning mountainous so I went with more town power to try and even it over, which I overcorrected.
