Abbreviated Flavor

I am an "HQ Infiltrator". At some point during the game I can investigate one player and find out if at some point so far

during the day phase I am investigating them

they've posted in a QT.

Flavor goes on to say that due to high security, should a player post in an HQ a day previous to my investigation that information will be wiped from the records and be inaccessible to me.

Due to this I figured waiting a bit to investigate was good for two reasons:

• 1) I wanted a decent read before investigating on a leader/power player that would obviously have a sizable influence on the game. Quadz was the best candidate
  2) I wanted to wait a bit to ensure that I wouldn't investigate a player prior to them posting in a QT since then if I got a negative result it wouldn't exactly be clearing them, it could just mean they hadn't yet written something in their QT.

Now, I've been thinking about this a decent amount. Due to possible role-changing this round I'm assuming several things:

• 1) Players can move in or out of QTs due to alignment changes / flavor. Quadz may not be in a QT
  right now
  , which is one thing I was thinking about when tunneling him. I was quite interested to see if he would say something like, "Yes, I had a QT I was in but then ______," however he didn't, not that I would expect him to have switched alignments so quickly since the game has just begun.
  
  2) Due to the stress this game places on alignment flipflopping it's very likely that there is some sort of system employed to ensure that players remain in some form anonymous in the HQ. Therefore, I highly doubt that searching for connections between Quadz and other players would be beneficial

And now I've shared my claim / speculation. I think it's good to discuss this further and hear everyone's opinions before we move on and lynch Quadz.

I have scumreads definitely on Saulres (it's a collective thing, all of his posts suck), Trollie (for saying that my reason for voting Quadz was a dumb-ass reason, this is probably the scummiest thing said all game looking back), Guille (for his reactions to the Quadz potential lynch and his diversion of the wagon to shos), Malascp (his play early game was awkward and it seemed like he could not get the ball rolling like town could do)

I know that at least two people are present in each of the three QTs (so I know that nobody is talking to themself). So at minimum there are four scum and there can be as many as 9 since I am thinking that there wouldn't be a singular anti-town team larger than 3 people.

Due to the large number of scum factions probably apparent this game it would make sense that there were no kills last night. The scum's kills are probably defective to give the diminished town a fighting chance. Iecerint says someone visited him last night. I'm thinking that he was an attempted scumkill last night or perhaps it was a Fruit-giving like role so that some player later on can say that they can make a player aware of their presence or something. I'm assuming, however, that unless all of the scumteams targeted me last night and the doc protected me damn successfully that there was a lot of bastardry that went down last night.

All in all, I think we should be lynching Saulres, Trollie, Guille and Malpascp. I think they are all good lynches.

So I've unexpectedly been at an adoption clinic since 1:30 and it's been much longer than anticipated and therefore I was not on campus to turn in my paper prior to 4. I had sent it to Aimee to review about two weeks ago, so I did have it done much in advance and I am wondering if I won't be penalized for it. I can turn in a hard copy as soon as I'm back on campus. "What are good and bad ways to try to encourage our children to perform at their best and to be successful? More specifically, does intimating that a social group is prone to be more or less successful on a task negatively influence the performance of a child partaking in said task? Intimating that a social group is prone to be more or less successful on a task can have positive, negative, or no effects on a child’s performance when the social group is one that the child is a part of; and positive, negative, or no effects on a child’s performance when the social group is one that the child is not a part of. The study is designed to test these alternatives by manipulating the independent variable, which is whether previous success on the task is related to a categorical attribution, an individual attribution, or, in the case of the second experiment, no attribution. The dependent variables, what was measured, were the rate at which children filled in the shapes with circles in the first experiment and the percent of questions answered correctly in the second experiment as well as the mean reaction times across all trial types.
In the first experiment, 48 children aged 4 and 5 participated. The participants were told they would play the shape game. During this game they would receive 1 point for each circle they drew, and each circle was to be within a shape, with the shapes presented having been randomized. The experimenter expressed a categorical (“Boys [Girls] are really good at this game”) or individual (“There’s a boy [girl] who is really good at this game”) condition to the child, with all combinations having been fully counterbalanced for both boys and girls. The children would then start the game, being stopped after filling in 12 shapes. The children were told, “twelve is not many points,” and would then repeat the game, this time being allowed to fill in 16 shapes.
The experiment revealed that children who heard the categorical attribution performed more poorly than those for whom the activity had been linked to an individual. Additionally, children presented with a categorical attribution performed poorly compared to those who were presented an individual attribution. From the first to the second trial, speed for both groups improved, which was attributable most likely to the practice effect.
In the second experiment, subjects participated in a mental-rotation task where they had to select the correct target rotation of an original shape among three alternatives. 144 subjects were tested, 72 of which were aged 4 and 5 and 72 of which were aged 6 and 7. Each child was first presented three practice trials where they were to choose which of the rotated shapes matched the original. Afterwards, children were told they must “find the right blocks as fast as possible,” and were presented with a pre-manipulation round, which was composed of 4 rotation tasks with no correct answer and 8 baseline items. In the impossible trials, after a child would choose a response, the experimenter would tell them to “try again”. After this round, children entered a post-manipulation round, where they were informed that “boys [girls] are really good at this game,” “there’s a boy [girl] who is really good at this game,” or nothing. Children were then presented with four high-difficulty rotation tasks followed by four low-difficulty rotation tasks. In a previous norming study, it was determined that the high-difficulty and baseline rotation tasks were equal in difficulty. Additionally, they were both more difficult than the low-difficulty sorting task.
For this experiment, no significant differences were shown in the baseline trials for any of the three conditions. In the post-manipulation stage, the percent of average correct responses was significantly impaired in the category condition. This was true for both the category condition in relation to baseline and in relation to the individual and no-information conditions. There was no significant impairment of the individual and no-information conditions in relation to baseline. No effect was found on the mean response time in any conditions compared to the baseline, but percent of correct responses was impaired in the category condition. Success was impaired regardless of whether the attribution made in the category condition was representative of the child’s own or opposing group. Finally, there was no significant difference between success in the baseline and low-difficulty trials regardless of the condition presented.
Unfortunately, these results do not fully answer the question presented; they only show that a positive attribution made to one’s social group, or an opposing social group, can have a negative effect on performance. This is because in no situation was a negative attribution made to the children’s social groups in the experiment (e.g. telling a boy that boys are bad at this game). It has not been previously proven that expressing that an opposing social group is successful at a task verifies that one’s own group performs poorly at that task. Therefore, research must be presented that proves that this is so, or the study must be redone with negative categorical attributions added. One other, more minor, problem in the first experiment is that the children are first allowed to draw circles in twelve shapes and then sixteen. The measurable variable was the rate at which they filled out the shapes in both trials. However, the extra four trials may to some degree tire out children and as a result slow down their speed. To remove this effect, in both trials the rate at which the child fills out the shapes should only be calculated by measuring the rate at which the children fill out the first 12 bubbles. Regardless, an increase in rate in the second trial after correction would actually make the results of the experiment even more significant, so this confound does not detract from the significance of the results for this portion of the experiment.
The experimenters do a very good job of discrediting alternative possibilities for the results. They show that categorical attributions can impair a child’s success in tasks that they don’t have any previous discriminatory bias for. A good future study would be one that further improves generalizability by chunking social groups by other factors, such as race and age.
