• Claiming to be an anti-town player sharing an alignment with another player in the game is a modkillable offense regardless of one's actual alignment or whether the statement was intended to be taken seriously.
• When placing a vote, it is not necessary to unvote first or to put your vote on a new line. However, it would be appreciated if you submitted votes in bold like this:

Opening Flavor:

It was a Friday night at the home of The Betting Pool. The Evites were sent out promising a fun night of board game mayhem. The RSVPs were returned excitedly confirming attendance. Snacks were prepared and laid out. Drinks were ready to be served. All signs pointed to a great night of dice rolling, card drawing, and piece moving.

The guests started to arrive, each bringing a board game they wanted to play. One by one they were stacked on the living room coffee table as the guests mingled and socialized. A discussion began about which game should be played first. Everyone wanted to play their game first. The Betting Pool wanted to play Settlers of Catan, Faraday wanted to play Hanabi, and Angry Pidgeon wanted to play 7 Wonders. Someone pointed out there might not be time to play all the games. A heated argument started to rise up as each guest added their voice. Sensing danger, The Betting Pool called for silence. He suggested the party eat dinner first, and they could play their first game after.

As most of the guests settled into their food, several members of the party were colluding on a plan. In order to guarantee that their games were played, they would eliminate some of the other choices. They took turns sneaking away when no one was looking and sabotaged the board games that weren’t theirs. Before they could get to all the games though, dinner ended.

Everyone began to return to the living room, ready to start playing. To their horror, the guests were greeted with a sight of destruction. Several board games lay scattered and mangled. The 7 Wonders cards were written on with permanent marker and the conflict tokens were chewed and dented. Several Hanabi cards were missing and replaced with Bicycle cards. Settlers of Catan’s pieces were strewn around the room and the board pieces bent. The robber piece was missing, presumably robbed!

Angry Pidgeon and Faraday looked at their games with their mouths open in shock. The Betting Pool started to gather up the pieces of Catan, angry at this crime. After cleaning up the mess, The Betting Pool turned to his guests. “Whoever did this will pay!”

I apologize for the delay of game; Lucky2u and I were consulting with the list mods.

We have decided that the only way to preserve the integrity of the game is to modkill LastManStanding.

Claiming to be an anti-town aligned player sharing an alignment with other players in the game goes against one's win condition when not town-aligned and so necessitates a modkill in that situation. As such, not modkilling a player making such a claim confirms them as town-aligned and breaks the game. This action in no way reflects upon other players named.

I was operating with the understanding that this was encompassed in the 'playing to one's win condition' clause in the rules. The resulting ambiguity is therefore my fault.

Please let us know if this is unclear by PM, and I will listen to any and all criticism of this decision and the failings on my part that allowed it to take place after the game in the post-game discussion.

To clarify the rules going forward, the following has been added to the game's rule set:

The Betting Pool demanded answers for the destroyed games! Someone at this party was guilty and he wanted them to come forward! Boldly, Lastmanstanding stepped forward. "It was me!"

The guests looked at him curiously. Suddenly LMS cracked a smile and laughed. "I'm just kidding! I didn't do it."

The Betting pool was not amused. He grabbed the game LMS had brought and went to the front door. He chucked it into the front lawn, the box spinning in the air and opening. The pieces scattered all over the lawn. TBP turned to LMS and pointed out of the door. "Get out!"

Night One Flavor:

When The Betting Pool returned to his guests he saw their shocked looks and felt ashamed of his actions. "Ok... maybe things are getting a bit too intense right now."

TBP walked over to the pile of games and picked one up at random. "Maybe we should just play a game and forget anything happened. No hard feelings?"

The remaining guests murmured their agreement. TBP looked at the game he had picked and saw it was "Clue", the classic detective game. "Hmm... seems somewhat appropriate."

Rolodex moved forward to help setup the game. "I've actually never played, a friend let me borrow it specifically for tonight! He said it would be great."

It seemed like game night was finally back on track.... until the Clue box was opened. The clue envelope was shredded, the cards were torn and bent, and the board had something red splattered on it that looked like blood (but turned out to be ketchup). Rolodex looked down at the murdered board game with wide eyes. "Oh no! This wasn't even my game!"

He quickly gathered up the mess and ran for the door, yelling over his shoulder that he had to buy a replacement before his friend found out what happened.

The travails of vandal-hunting had begun to wear on the group. It seemed like days had passed, and still no board games had been played. Worse still, the snack table was looking severely depleted.

The Betting Pool thought quickly.

If I'm going to salvage this evening, I need to keep morale up. Hungry gamers get grumpy...

"Who wants to order pizza? We can have it delivered in fourteen minutes."

Day Three Lynch Flavor:

It was fourteen minutes and forty five seconds later. The doorbell rang and The Betting Pool went to answer it. It was the pizza delivery man with several pizzas in his arms. "Ok... how much do we owe you?"

"That'll be eighty five dollars and fifty cents." The pizza man replied.

"What?!" TBP exclaimed. "We ordered THREE pizzas!"

Night Three Flavor:

The pizza was delicious (not the anchovy one though, that was thrown in the garbage.) and as they returned to the living room they were in better spirits.

"Well... I guess we'll just have to open the next game and see what's happened." TBP picked up Heroscape. He saw hiplop flinch as the box was opened.

TBP looked inside the cardboard confused. "No... that's impossible..."

TBP emptied the box onto the table and out came a still warm anchovy pizza. The guests looked at the disgusting food in confusion.

"How did that get in my box?" Hiplop asked astonished. Slowly another realization dawned on him. "Wait... if that's in there... then the pieces to my game..."

The party stood around and the anchovy pizza and stared. Who could have done this? Who was this good?

A slurping noise drew the attention of the guests. AwesomeUserName was licking his fingers and not paying attention to the others.

"Is that... pizza cheese on your fingers?" TBP asked. AUN looked up surprised.

"Oh uh... no?" He stammered out. The guests moved in around him. "Ok fine! It was me!"

"But why? Why would you do this?" TBP asked confused. AUN picked up his game.

"Because my game is the only one we should be playing! All these other games are just a waste of time!" AUN declared. "If you can't see that, then I don't even want to be here!"

AUN stormed out of the house, his game in his hand. As he exited the door, however, he tripped and Resistance went flying out of his hand. TBP smiled as he turned back to his remaining guests. "Ok... I think we can safely say that the worst of the night--"

Before TBP could finish his sentence, a flash of light from the living room caught his attention. "Oh no... the games!"

The guests rush back into the living room and see a blaze on the coffee table. "What the hell?!"

TBP rushes into his kitchen and finds a fire extinguisher that he has kept for emergencies. He grabs it and runs back to the living room. The fire extinguisher lets out a torrent of nitrogen that smothers the fire and fills the room with a white mist.

"How the hell did that fire start?" TBP wonders aloud. Before anyone can answer him, Hadrian suddenly dashes forward.

Hadrian gathers up the game and ashes and slowly walks over to the trash can where he deposits the destroyed pieces. Hadrian looks solemnly at TBP. "Thanks for the invite..."

Day Five Lynch Flavor:

The living room was, quite frankly, a mess. Discarded game pieces, pizza on the floor, and the odor of the burned game lingered. The five remaining guests were tired, and still not a single board game had been played.

The Betting Pool threw up his hands in frustration. "This is the most destructive party I've ever hosted. You people need to find the source of all this, and quickly!"

An awkward silence descended on the room. One by one, heads turned toward morph the cat. "What? Don't look at us! We brought a fun party game!" they protested. "See, it's like charades..."

Unearthing their box from the debris, smelly fish and shredded Monopoly money slithered off the cardboard top. "Just innocent modeling clay, a game board..."

But once opened, it was clear that this game would never be playable again. The clay had been mixed with sand, and someone had gone to town with a razor blade. One word was carved into the board's surface: "Wewontplaythisstupidgameeitheryoutwoheadedcatmonstrosity"

And so morph the cat left with their tattered game, departing into the night, leaving behind one distraught host and four guests...not all of whom were sad to see another game bite the dust!

Kdub stepped forward. "Well, why don't we eliminate those who couldn't possibly have done this first?"

TBP looked at Kdub curiously. "What do you mean?"

"For example, you couldn't have done this because your game is ruined too," Kdub explained. TBP nodded sadly. "Since we know you didn't do it, we know I'm innocent as well!"

"Why is that?" TBP asked curiously. Kdub smirked.

"I was late to the party, and I've been right next to you all night. How could I possibly have touched anyone's games?" Kdub said with a smile.

TBP thought about this for a second. "All of that's true, and we can account for your whereabouts the whole night." TBP looked down at the much-diminished pile of games on the table. "But if you didn't do it, doesn't that mean your game...?"

"Oh, nonsense. I brought chess, and it's made of marble. No one could have destroyed it," Kdub proclaimed. He grabbed his game form the table and opened the lid. "See, it's perfectly--"

Kdub's face drained of color. "No, it can't be. How could no one have heard?"

The game fell from Kdub's hands. It hit the floor, and shattered pieces of marble tumbled out in a mess of rocks and dust. The pieces of a king rolled to a stop at Kdub's feet. Looking down at it, he mumbled, "I carved this set myself..."

TBP put a hand on Kdub's shoulder as he walked him to the door, apologizing profusely about the lost chess set. As he was about to leave the room, heTBP looked back over his shoulder at the three remaining guests. "When I get back, you'd better have an explanation for what's been going on, and that's final."

After TBP left the room, Porkens declared to Spyrex. "I saw Quill messing with Chess...it must be him!"

Quill held up his hands defensively. "What?! No way! It wasn't me, I didn't touch any of the games!"

Spyrex's eyes narrowed as he looked at Quill's hands. "Then why is there marble dust on your hands?"

Quill looked at the dust that covered him and quickly put his hands behind his back. He grinned nervously. "That could have come from anywhere!"

TBP returned and looked at his guests. "Well?"

Porkens and Spyrex pointed at Quill together. TBP nodded. "So what do you have to say for yourself?"

"It's not my fault! You all brought such crappy games! We had to shrink the pool so that only the good games would be played!" Quill blurted out, realizing he was caught. "I mean seriously...who brings Chess to game night!?"

"It's not the games we came to play, it's the friends we came to play with. You've ruined that. Goodbye, Quill." TBP grabbed Quill's game, shoved it into his arms, and kicked him out of the house.

TBP looked at Porkens and Spyrex. "So... now what?"

Before they could answer however, the doorbell rang. TBP went and answered it, wondering who it could be. When he opened the door, it was all the players that had left (except for awesomeusername, Quill, and Madotsuki) with new copies of their games! "So can we still play?"

TBP smiled and welcomed them in. "Of course! Let the games begin!"

Dice was rolled, cards were shuffled, and pieces moved. Board game night began at last!

Many thanks to Faraday and AngryPidgeon for reviewing this game in such a short time frame. It would have been vastly inferior without their wise counsel, and their time and brain power is much appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who played, especially the kind replacements. I was quite pleased with the overall activity level and the game atmosphere throughout. Corresponding with players in the context of night actions and in the dead QTs was a delight.

Thanks also to Equinox, quadz08, and Tierce for their timely and helpful input on the end of Day One situation.

I think both teams played reasonably well, and there were times watching where I was sure it could go either way.

Last but not least, thank you, Lucky2u, for agreeing to co-mod this game! It was a blast designing and running the game with you. And for the record, anyone who enjoyed the flavor, that was Lucky's doing. As were the funny parts of the vote counts. (I think I said in one of the QTs, anything you were happy to see came from Lucky [flavor, jokes]; anything you weren't [prods, death notifications] came from me...)

I'd appreciate and welcome any feedback on the game, positive or negative. I think when running a game like this in the future I'd reveal the role PMs when people flipped, given the non-obvious roles in play. We left the Mafia fairly open-ended in terms of giving them fake-claims, leaning more toward giving them plausible town role madness powers (neighborizer, motivator, vote freezer) in addition to their Mafia powers (encryptor, roleblocker, role cop). I liked the idea that Mafia had to think about what was reasonable to claim, although circumstances conspired to lock awesomeusername into the role cop claim.
