CLUE MASTER DETECTIVES MAFIA

Based on the board game Clue Master Detective, this is a semi-open mini themed game with 10 characters, 8 items and 12 rooms. It involves a mechanic of moving through rooms finding items and using them to help solve the case. Be careful though, some of the guests might use the items to remove you from the game. Use every clue at your disposal to solve who the murderers are. This game has unusual mechanics so it is required to have completed one game.

Characters:

Each player is randomly assigned a character. The alignment of the player is also randomly assigned.

Items:


  • At the beginning of the game all items are randomly distributed throughout the mansion.
  • As players enter rooms they will pick up the item that is in the room if they currently are not holding an item.
  • If several players enter a room with an item at the same time, the item will go to just one player selected randomly.
  • There will only be at most one (1) item per room.
  • Each item has a unique use that can be used on any player in an adjacent room and current room unless otherwise specified.
  • When using an item you can target a player or a room. If the targeted player is outside the range of the item, then the action will fail. If the targeted room has several players, the targeted player is selected randomly.
  • Each night the player must choose to

    the item.
  • Failure to submit an action will result in the item being drop.
  • The player cannot hold more than one item at a time.
  • The player cannot hold an item for more than two(2) days. On the second night in possession of the item, the player must use or drop the item.
  • Once an item is dropped or used they will appear on a random room.
  • The players use the items before dying.
  • When the player dies the item is automatically dropped.
  • Items that are not picked up will remain in their respective rooms over the course of the night.

    • Lead Pipe
    • Revolver
    • Rope
    • Wrench
    • Poison
    • Horseshoe

  • Every night a player must choose a room to move too.
  • A player can only move to an adjacent room.
  • A player cannot remain in a room. Failure to submit a movement, will randomly select the next room for the player.
  • All actions are resolved prior to moving to another room.

  • Any identified mistakes will be reported publicly without detail in the thread and players will continue as if their movement was valid. Do not attempt to exploit this rule.

Mafia:

  • There are two players randomly selected as mafia.
  • Mafia are required to find an Item in order to perform a kill.
  • Mafia can only make one kill per night.
  • Mafia are forced to kill every other night. If they choose to not kill or cannot kill during a night, the next night in which they can kill, they are forced to make the kill, as long as they have an item.
  • The kill will use the item as a weapon and can only be used in adjacent rooms and current room.
  • Mafia can opt to use the item as intended, instead of making the kill.
  • Mafia always knows where everyone in the game is. As all killers do.
  • Mafia can talk at any time day or night as long as they are alive.
  • Mafia share a two time use power that allows the user to move to any room they wish at any point in the game.
  • Mafia share a one time use power that allows the user to pick up any item not in possession selected randomly at any point in the game.
  • Mafia is limited to the same movement limitations as town, with the exception of using the above mentioned power.
  • Mafia can only kill a player in an Adjacent Room or Current Room, unless otherwise specified by the item.
  • Mafia may or may not have other rules and privileges not expressed here.


Voting:

  • Votes are used to Lynch players during the day. When a player gains a majority of the votes, half of the players plus one, then that player is lynched and removed from the game board.
  • Vote in
    bold
    or use the
    VOTE:
    tags.
  • Unvotes are not necessary but may help.
  • No lynch votes follow the same majority rule as any player.
  • Place votes on new lines. Although I allow inline votes, I do not guarantee that I will see it.


Rules:

  • Do not talk about the game outside the thread, unless your roles specifically allows it.
  • Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 48-hour period. Players who have been prodded have 24 hours to respond in the game thread before a replacement is sought. Saturday and Sunday will be considered a 24-hour period.
  • When you are pressured to reveal your role, do not copy my message. Use your own words. Do not quote anything I send to you.
  • Ask me questions if anything is unclear.
  • I am absolutely infallible. But I occasionally make intentional mistakes just to make sure if you players are paying attention. If you find a mistake point it out so that it can be corrected appropriately.
  • Have fun. It is a game, and I expect courteous and mature behavior. Mafia is not a game to win, it is a game to enjoy.
  • Do not edit the content of your posts. It is not fair if you post something that some people get to see and other don't.
  • Do not use this formatting:

  • Actions not received will follow the following protocol: Items will be dropped, if possible the player will move to a random adjacent room.
  • Actions may be submitted ahead of time and can be changed as many times as desired; at deadline, the last action that was submitted will be used. Actions may be submitted via PM.
  • I reserve the right to add or alter any rule in the game including the rules herein.
  • Any situations not covered above will be handled on an individual basis.


Deadlines:

  • Days will be at least 21 days (3 weeks) long. It may be longer depending on my schedule and weekends.
  • Nights will be at least 2 days long. It may be longer depending on my schedule and weekends.
  • If a day deadline has been reached and I am not around, the day will continue until I stop it. Don't assume that this will happen though.
  • Twilight is defined as the moment in which the hammer vote is cast until the game is stopped. During this time, you are allowed to continue talking, but any votes or unvotes cast during this time will not count towards the vote counts.


Win Conditions:

  • Town wins when all threats to town have been eliminated.
  • Mafia wins when all town members are dead or nothing can prevent otherwise.
  • In the event that there are equal number of town members and mafia members at day break, mafia will automatically win, regardless of what items are in possession.


Confirmation and Night 0:

  • Please confirm your role by PM.
  • During Night 0, you have to perform an action, if possible, and make a move.
  • Confirmation will last 48 hours or until 8 of the players confirm.
  • If you do not confirm after 48 hours, you will be prodded. After being prodded you will have 24 hours to respond or be replaced.

Notice:

1. I was under the impression that the rules were very clear that a player must Hold, Use or Drop an Item else, the player will automatically drop it. That's what I get for copy pasting old games. I will slightly modify the rules so that it is clear that all players have to submit an action with their items, If they do not then the item will be dropped. This is to avoid ambiguous situations. I have notified any player of this during Night 1 but not during Night 0. From now on I will notify any player that forgets to submit an action for their items, but they have until deadline to fix it, or else I will assume that they drop the item.

2.
New rule:
If a player accidentally requests to move to a new room that is not adjacent to the original room, or the movement violates some mechanic in the game, I will notify the problem to the player, and they have until deadline to fix it or else they will be moved randomly to another room. I try to check early, but most of the time I process this late in the deadline and would usually not give enough time to reply, so make sure to check your movements. If I don't catch the error and process the data, then the error will remain in play as if the player was allowed to perform the movement. DO NOT attempt to exploit this. I always check adjacency, but rarely I miss some, especially early in the game when there are more players. If I discover that it was intentional, then the player will be force replaced. If I or a player identifies the error, the affected player would be notified and I will announce that an error of this nature happened in thread without mentioning any details. If the error directly influences the game, (IE, You are scum because you skipped a room.) I will intervene to mention that the player was involved in this mistake at the discretion of the affected player. The affected player can request to be stated publicly as the object of this mistake at any point in the game, even after death. This is to avoid other players to claim having being affected by a mistake that did not affect them.

Let's see. The murderer Grabbed the rope, killed Mr. Boddy with it. Colonel Mustard Shoots the gun to the ceiling. When we split again, he grabs the wrench and Wallops Profesor Plum in the head with it. His accomplished had grabbed the gun and used it to shoot Rose.


But Miss Scarlet was quite far?


Yes indeed. The accomplice scurried to the Carriage Room, and could easily kill her from there.


So, Who are the murderers.


Clearly, the most suspected is Sargent Grey, who escaped death by a hair when Mrs White shot him and missed. Probably standing too far or something. And he was in fact near the kitchen, but then couldn't find a weapon so he relied on his accomplice... Miss Peach, to handle the next Kills. She cleverly told everyone that she was dumb enough to have dropped the gun when in fact she kept it on her purse. Everyone believed her southern accent and so went after Monsieur Brunette. She grabbed the rope and manage to sneak behind Miss Scarlet and kill her with the rope.


And how would you know all this?


Well, isn't it obvious? I invited you all here and I specifically told these two thugs to eliminate everyone. Clearly, this worked for the best here. I mean, best for me, of course. Now, my friends let's end this and go celebrate.

So, I hope everyone enjoyed the game. I sorta wanted the game to go on, but the gun missed the target and mafia did make the right choices in the end. I think Mafia played very well and Toogeloo did some serious strategics there.

I want to ask Mafia here, what actions would they have picked, to see if they can pinpoint the correct strategy in this situation.

But at most Town would have extended their life for a bit.

The 2v2 or 1v1 rule was set in place early, mostly because if you reach that position and you have a gun or something that will legitimately make a win for town, it would have been an auto win for town since they could then probably piece together who scum is in the end. I find it unlikely and a bit unfair if the opportunity presents itself.

I'm going to Parse the night actions, but not tonight.

I've basically posted the important actions in the Flavor. Anything not there, it's because it failed or was inconsequential.

Your poison didn't really make anyone drop FYI.

Two people dropped items because they didn't say to hold night 0. Kinda my bad cause I was certain that it was pretty clear in the rules, which they weren't. I must have copied the rules from an earlier game, before I changed that wording. So hence I changed it for night 1 and onward.

Toog also evaded your shot by using the teleport so this game came down to a dice roll

That was the best shot he could have done. Toog had lied about his position and was actually next to him, but he didn't know that. Although Toog teleporting would have given him the same 40% chance of dying.

BTW PM, you did really well day 1. You made Scum change their pacing and put the game on track for different strategies than last game.

I would have likely used our power to summon an item and MS and I would have just pushed No Lynch. Then He would kill Shos with the Lead Pipe I would assume.

I'd use the lead pipe on Shos and Kill KMD with whatever item you conjure up. That guaranties that regardless of any item that they have, you'd still win. The lead pipe would block Shos if he had the dagger or gun.

There were only two differences in the game.

One is the additional "Give me a Weapon" Power, which scum did not use this game.

The other was that all mafia rules were public.

You could think that the last change was a disadvantage to scum, but given that the previous game was still there, meant that it was already public, and it forced scum to not play it too safe.

I thought of publicizing the items too, but it was fun seeing how everyone assumed things without checking the previous game much.

If I remember correctly, last game had scum messing up their locations and or making genuine mistakes. Pretty much what happened to town this game.

I am still trying to balance the game a bit more every time. I think it is quite balanced already. The flight power, as you call it, is there to allow scum to kill anybody in the game. Using it twice in one night spends it but it is safe as you won't be discovered outside of your claimed room. If you use it once you can use it again later, but there is a risk of getting discovered either by candlestick or messing up the lies.
