this week's Adventure Zone is brought to you by the chicken tenders at E3.

let's make 'em kiss. make 'em kiss ranch?

a lot of people suck, and most of them won't ever get the comeuppance they deserve, but occasionally things go the way they should go. occasionally, you get to be a part of that. and occasionally, as a part of bringing people to justice, you'll reach an end that you don't deserve, but it's worth it, isn't it? it's worth it to know that there's one less terrible person in this world, and that you got to play a part in it. it's maybe the best feeling there is, even if no one else ever understands.

Vecna
Kurtze

"Wow what a... what an ingrate. What a jerk. Gah, kids these days. Orc kids these days, I tell ya."
"Did you know him?"
"Are you kidding? Now who’s the orcist? 'Yeah, d’you, oh, do you, uh, do you know Steven? He’s an orc too. Hey I know an orc named Steven, do you know him?' That’s what you sound like right now, Taako!"

alignment:
town
win condition:
you win when all the members of any other factions that oppose your own are eliminated, or when nothing can prevent this.

revenge shot:
a lot of people are, like, super racist against orcs, which sucks, but at least you can kill one of them! at any point during the day, you can write shoot: name, where "name" is the username of a player who is currently voting for you; when the current day ends, you and that player will both die. you can only use this ability once. if your use of this ability would result in no players being left alive at all, your faction will win.
vote:
you have a vote which you can use each day.

sure, some people are powerful, but who cares who's the most powerful if they're not also memorable? no one remembers the people who rise to moderate power but have absolutely no personality. that's not the sort of person who will really go down in history.

no, the sort of person who's really remembered is stylish as hell and unbelievably powerful at the same time. the sort of person with an aesthetic that is not only clearly defined but defines everyone else around them. the sort of person for whom every moment is a chance to shine. that's the sort of person people remember.

any chump can fire off bolts of magical energy at their enemies, but the sort of person who shouts "abraca-fuck-you" while they do it is the sort you don't ever forget.

Backhand
Taako

"I guess it's okay, Justin, because in the infinite world of fantasy I'm about to craft for you, maybe tacos don't exist Already. And it's just a nutrition in the traditional sense. The taco is not realized. It doesn't mean anything."
"Oh my god, my whole goal... my goal for this adventure is to invent the taco."
"Roll for salsa!"

alignment:
town
win condition:
you win when all the members of any other factions that oppose your own are eliminated, or when nothing can prevent this.

unlimited pasta pass:
you have an unlimited pasta pass. if you go to an Olive Garden, you will be able to acquire free pasta as well as soda for your dinner guests. other than that, though, you don't have any abilities at all.
vote:
you have a vote which you can use each day.

creating things that will last after you're gone is nice. whether it's something tangible or something abstract, having a legacy is really, really important. so when everything you create is immediately annihilated, it can be kind of a downer. no one's going to remember all the things you've done if those things instantly cease to exist, and that makes the whole process of creation kind of hard. but a job is a job, and sometimes you just have to power through it, and hope that at the end of the day the people around you at least respect you for the things that you do.

or, if they don't respect you, hopefully they'll at least remember you.

"In the contract?"
"Guys, there's, like, a lot of syphilis. An unconscionable amount of syphilis."

feed the voidfish:
you've composed all sorts of beautiful music that no one will ever listen to, which sucks, because if anyone ever actually got to hear it, they'd probably love it. instead it doesn't actually affect the world in any tangible manner. bummer.
factional kill:
your faction can kill one player each night. your faction will need to choose who uses the kill and who it targets. note that each player may use only one ability each night.

thanks to everyone who replaced in!!! I think the most I ever had to wait for a replacement was like a couple hours. y'all are great!

also, thanks to Nahdia and RadiantCowbells for reviewing the setup! also, RadiantCowbells stepped in pretty early and offered to serve as a backup mod in case I disappeared, so thanks to him for that as well!

my only complaint setup wise is that town's power wound up confirming itself really fast

my role was obvtown
cakez could confirm himself
neighbor flips had flavor in them which, when scum fakeclaimed, wound up confirming them as town
suicide bomber was a town role in light of town's lack of power
there was a fruit vendor

thats like 6 unlynchable slots right off the bat and that doesnt count the doc/nurse combo

we only lynched creative since we thought FA was bulletproof too

some thoughts:

this ended up being a little too town-sided; the Fantasy Gachapon abilities were much more useful in the town's hands, and the fact that it was essentially a power role that the town couldn't ever lose was really powerful; I think if I were redesigning this, I would do it in such a way that the FG abilities are ones that the mafia can get some benefit out of. however, I'm relatively happy with how it all played out--the tension of trying to figure out the optimal way to get the most out of the suicide bomber ability was really interesting from my perspective. one thing I didn't anticipate was the effect that the fake claims had; I included 3 different fake claims just in case, but I think things might've gone at least a little differently if I'd made it more clear that there was nothing inherent in the roles that meant that all 3 needed to be used.

I decided to have kind of a light touch in my approach to flavor; writing the little death monologues for each character was a fun writing exercise, and I really liked following the beats of the podcast for the rest of it. also, I hope you all watched the different YouTube clips I posted each end of day, because they're all really good. on that note, if you've not actually listened to the podcast on which this game was based, please do so!!! it's really, really good, and the #1 thing I wanted was for this game to serve as a tribute to it.

there were a handful of issues that came up that weren't handled as well as I would've liked; in particular, I'm disappointed that I didn't more clearly define the win conditions for each faction, and the issue that came up with how I handled removing references to ongoing games didn't go as well as I would've liked. the nice thing is, both of those are the sort of thing that are really easy to improve in future games I run.

speaking of future games that I run, I do intend to put together games for each of the other podcast arcs! I have a general idea for what will make each of them mechanically unique, and I hope they'll be a lot of fun! I'm also planning on running a large theme sequel to my previous mini theme game TBD Mafia, just as soon as I can find a reviewer and a backup mod, so let me know if you're interested in doing that, because I'm pretty much ready to go on that the moment I have those roles filled!!!

Scumteam of Merle, Johann, and Barry Bluejeans is, imo, a good indication that fake flavour isn't really needed.

I didnt keep up with this too much after I died, but I had a lot of fun while I was playing! I wish Idve lived a bit longer but the win is nice to see. Good job guys =:D
