I've bolded the most important things that might be different from typical rules below for easy reference, but you should read the entire rules post before the game begins!

game rules

obey all site rules. you can read the site rules here.
do not discuss the game in any capacity outside of this game thread unless your role gives you explicit permission to do so. if you are allowed to do so, I will provide you with a private topic where you can do so.
once you are no longer in the game, do not make any more posts in the game thread,
including any sort of "bah" post, even if it contains no game-relevant information
. there will be a private thread where dead players can discuss the game.
do not harass other players in this game. while a certain level of confrontation and argumentation is typical in Mafia games, do not bring personal vendettas or outside influences into the game. additionally, do not harm or threaten to harm any person.
play to win. there is a chance that you will lose the game, but do your best to avoid that, and do not deliberately throw the game.
you should have received a PM with a role from me when the game began or when you replaced in. please respond to this PM with a message that includes your alignment and a brief summary of your role. if you have any questions about how your role works or you need a new copy of your role PM, please PM me.
if you go 48 hours without posting in the game thread, I'll send you a prod PM
and post in the thread letting everyone know you've been prodded.
if you fail to pick up the PM and post in the thread for 24 more hours, you will be replaced
. if I need to repeatedly prod you, I may replace you earlier; I will make that clear both in your prod PM and in the thread.
if you will be away from the site for a set period of time, please post in the thread letting the other players know this and PM me, and update the "Vacation / Limited Access" info in the User Control Panel. I will be more lenient regarding inactivity if you are V/LA, but I may need to replace you if you will be gone for an extended period of time.
if you need to be replaced for any reason, you may message me with information to be passed on to the player who replaces you. this isn't mandatory, but if there's strategic advice you'd like to offer to whomever replaces you, you can do this.
do not use any sort of cryptography, hidden text, or other similar methods to hide information in the game thread. if you are unsure of what is not allowed, PM me for clarification.
do not quote any private correspondence you receive from me in the game thread.
do not use the color #8C0000. I will use this color for all official communication in the game thread.
I will not edit your posts unless a post you make breaks the rules in such a way that information needs to be removed from it (such as discussing another ongoing game or posts that break the site rules), in which case I will replace the entire post with the text "removed by xyzzy".
if you have a pronoun listed on your account, I will use that to refer to you. otherwise, I will default to referring to you as "they"/"them". if you do not have a pronoun listed on your account but wish for me to refer to you using some other pronoun, message me to let me know.
to vote, use bold text with the word "vote" followed by a colon and the username of the player you wish to vote for, or use the vote tag with the username of the player you wish to vote for inside. you do not need to unvote before voting for another player. please use the complete username of the person you're voting for to avoid any ambiguity.
a lynch will occur once the majority number of votes are for a player, and no lynch will occur if either the majority number of votes are for no lynch or the deadline for the day passes.
each day, there will be a Fantasy Gachapon vote. to vote for the Fantasy Gachapon, type "FG vote", "Fantasy Gachapon vote", or "Fantasy Gachapon" in bold, followed by a colon and the username of a player. you can change this vote at any time as long as a lynch has not been achieved in a previous post that day. at the end of the day, the player with the highest number of Fantasy Gachapon votes will receive a random 1-shot power that can only be used that night. the 1-shot power will be revealed in the game thread. if two or more players are tied for most votes, one of them will be chosen at random.
each player may use only one ability each night. this includes role abilities, factional abilities, and Fantasy Gachapon abilities.
the first day will last 3 weeks, the second day will last 2 weeks, and any subsequent days will last 1 week. each night will last 48 hours
, but if each living player messages me asking me to end the night early, that can happen.
I reserve the right to modify these rules at any time if necessary. I will let you know in the game thread if this happens.

I'm randomizing roles and sending them out right now. also, here's a fun fact for you: this game totally hit the character limit for the thread title, so I had to shorten "The Adventure Zone" to "TAZ"!

I've sent out role PMs, and the game will begin once everyone confirms! here's another fun fact for you: I totally wrote "please reply to this email" rather than "please reply to this PM" in all the confirmation requests like a doofus!

here's a few very important pregame notes!

I received a request to allow HEAL: tags as a way of indicating votes for the Fantasy Gachapon, and that will be allowed! it works exactly the same way as vote tags, but with the word "heal" instead!
here's some further clarification on how the Fantasy Gachapon works: the 1-shot power will not be revealed until the end of each day, after voting for it is complete! it's a plurality vote, and votes can change up to and including the last post of the day, so if you hammer someone, you can change your Fantasy Gachapon vote at the same time!
this game is designed such that knowledge of the flavor will not help you determine anyone's alignment, so if you're unfamilar with the flavor, that's okay!
that being said, if you wish to familiarize yourself with the flavor to a greater extent, here are some options:
1. ask me! for instance, if you're unsure of what a particular term means, I can define it for you!
2. check out the transcripts available at http://tazscripts.tumblr.com/tazscripts for the exact wording of any story details!
3. listen to the podcast via iTunes or whatever other podcast app you prefer, or on maximumfun.org! I strongly recommend doing this even if you aren't concerned about learning more about flavor, because it's really good!
on that note: this game will cover the first 9 episodes of the show. there's two versions of the first episode (episode 1 and episode 1.5)--episode 1.5 is significantly abridged, and I recommend listening to that one.
assume that anything I post that's not in this color is not intended to give advice or imply anything about what the correct choices are. in particular, I might post videos (or, in some cases, links to videos), and these are just fun, semi-related flavor!
