GAME RULES

SPECIAL MECHANICS:

HEY EVERETT, WHAT AM I LIKE IN YOUR WORLD?
Spoiler:
Space Dandy Mafia II is a 20 player game that will be played across two separate, private threads.
10 Players will begin the game in each 'Dimension', which will be private game threads.
Players may only vote for and submit actions (under most circumstances) for the players in their current Dimension.
There will also be a public game thread, but it will always be locked.
If a lynch happens in either Dimension, both Dimensions are locked and night phase begins.
Between these two Dimensions, the scum team will only be able to commit a single kill at night.
The Public Game Thread will be where all death flips and other public events are recorded and where players can see who, on the playerlist, is in each Dimension.
Players will have mechanical abilities to transfer themselves from one dimension to another. Transferring dimensions ALWAYS resolves last in NAR.

YOU KNOW, IT WOULD BE FASTER JUST TO FLY.
Spoiler:
The game will begin with a 21st player slot filled by a Neutral player representing the Dandy Crew's Aloha Oe space ship.
However, the Aloha Oe can sometimes break down and be in need of repairs; this will change the functionality of its various abilities.
Every day, a player is elected to be the new Captain of the Aloha Oe by popular vote--during the night following their elected, the Captain chooses a crew between 2 and 4 members out of players that are in his current Dimension.
Only the Dimension that contains the Aloha Oe can vote for a new Captain.
Even in the case that a new Captain is voted in, the previous Captain can use the Aloha Oe to escape to the other dimension and avoid being replaced by this mutiny, provided the Aloha Oe is functional and doesn't require repairs.
In the case that a popular verdict is not reached, there is no mutiny and the previous Captain becomes the next 'elected' Captain.
The current Captain and Crew of the Aloha Oe is always public information.
The elected Captain is protected from kills during the night following the day phase that he is elected.
The game will begin with a preset Captain and Crew, but a new Captain can be elected each day.
If a new Captain is elected, they will only receive all of the benefits of being Captain (such as control of the Aloha Oe, its Neighborhood, potential unique CAPTAIN abilities, etc.) at the start of the day following their election, and only if the Aloha Oe is still in their Dimension.

Aloha Oe will grant a neighborhood to all Crew of the Aloha Oe regardless of it it needs repairs.
Aloha Oe's Captain will gain specific abilities that only he will know about--these abilities are tied to the Aloha Oe itself, with some abilities that are standard to all Captains and many others that are unique per player.
In the case that a unique CAPTAIN ability requires use of a functional Aloha Oe, it would be noted in the Captain ability or it would read "You may use the Aloha Oe's Dimension Drive ability" or something like that.
If you have a unique CAPTAIN ability on your role PM and it does not make such a clarification (using the Aloha Oe's non-damaged-only powers), then you may use your CAPTAIN ability even if the Aloha Oe is damaged.

Aloha Oe's Captain may have the Aloha Oe use an ability to change dimensions during either Day or Night, so long as it does not need repairs.
If the Aloha Oe transfers dimensions during the Day, it can NOT transfer during the subsequent Night phase.
Transferring Dimensions during the Day will reset the vote-count in both Dimensions. If it is done within 72 hours of the Deadline, the Deadline will be extended to be 72 hours long.
Unlike transferring Dimensions with a role-related ability, transferring Dimensions with the Aloha Oe happens right before Kills resolve in NAR, so an elusive crew could skip Dimensions to avoid being killed!
Transferring Dimensions via the Aloha Oe still allows every member of the crew to target players in their starting dimension at night.
It's just that all the players on-board will be considered ineligible targets for Kills and anything that resolves after Kills in NAR.
So they can still be affected by abilities such as Copy, Hide, Bus, Block, Redirect, and Protect.
They simply can't be hit by Kills, Recruits, and Investigations, because they are no longer a legal target unless the ability allows targeting across dimensions.
The Crew's activated night abilities will still affect any targets they had in the starting dimension, even if these actions would resolve after the 'Miscellaneous' step in NAR.
However, if the Aloha Oe is targeted by a kill, the Aloha Oe will need repairs after crashing into the new Dimension.
Keep in mind that having Aloha Oe travel at night does render it capable of being interrupted by any other actions that could stop it!

Aloha Oe will perform a SENSOR scan for how many scum are in a dimension at the start of each day, so long as it does not need repairs--this gets reported to every member of the Aloha Oe Crew.

Aloha Oe can be lynched or killed, which will cause it to spend the next two phases 'repairing' itself.
If the Aloha Oe is lynched, the day phase will still continue on until a player is lynched.
A lynched Aloha Oe is not functional during the night of its lynch and the following day.
A killed Aloha Oe is not functional during the day after the kill and following night.

DON'T BE CHEAP, DUDE.
Spoiler:
Every player that is a member of the Lynch wagon at the end of the day will receive 1,000,000 Woolongs.
Members of the Aloha Oe only receive 500,000 Woolongs due to their own expenses, incompetence, and laziness.
During the Day Phase, any player that is in the same Universe as the Aloha Oe may spend their Woolongs.
There will be a SPACE BAZAAR featured in the Public Game Thread--all Woolong purchases will come from the Space Bazaar.
In order to purchase an item, you must have enough Woolongs.
In order to purchase an item, you must post using the bolded tag, [PURCHASE: Item Name].
In this way, all item purchases will always be public information for players in the same Dimension.
If you have enough Woolongs, I will privately confirm the purchase with you--if you accept, you will immediately gain the benefits of the item purchased.
Upon death, you take all of your items with you--no one else 'inherits' them or anything of that nature.

GENERAL RULES:

Spoiler:
This game will start with a SETUP PHASE that will last 72 hours.
Following this 'Setup Phase' will be the regular day phase.
As a general rule you should aim for one post every 24 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.
If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – please don't leave us hanging!
Prods of missing players will be issued after 48 hours of no activity. Also, players may request a prod on another player after 24 hours. Any player may be replaced if they fail to post in-thread within 24 hours of being prodded by me or within 48 hours of being prodded after a player-suggested prod. If the game turns to night before you can respond to your prod, PM me letting me know you still want to play.
No prods will be issued during Night.
A player who is eligible for a third prod is subject to possible replacement without further notice.
You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind. Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
You may not quote private topic or other out-of-game discussion (such as Hydra chats) in the public game thread, regardless of if the quotes are real or fabricated. Paraphrasing is acceptable.
You can always copy and paste the full content of your own posts (outside of moderator communication) so long as it does not contain any links to where it came from or any timestamps.
You may only ever paraphrase posts by other players and this is also subject to the same link/timestamp restriction.
There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings and approved QTs. If someone contacts you outside the game you should report it to me immediately.

DURING THE DAY:

Spoiler:
Each Day will have a two-week deadline. Extensions will be given only in extreme circumstances, but always feel free to ask.
A simple majority of all living players must agree on one person (via voting) for a Lynch to occur (simple majority = ½ # of living players +1, rounded down).
If the deadline runs out before a majority lynch is agreed on, the day will end in a no-lynch.
Players may vote for a No-Lynch via voting for 'No Lynch'.
Once a player has reached a simple majority of votes no further unvoting will change their fate.
Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I post a death scene; all players may continue to post.
Once you are dead (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post except for a brief “Bah!”-type post that contains NO game related information.
Votes should be bolded or tagged or they may not be counted (e.g. VOTE: Player or VOTE: Player).
Vote revocations should be bolded or tagged or they may not be counted (e.g. VOTE: UNVOTE: Player or Unvote). Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
Votes/Unvotes must be placed on a line all by themselves to make them easier for everyone to see.
Votes/Unvotes that reasonably follow the guidelines specified above, and are unambiguous with respect to player nicknames/abbreviations, will count.
If you cast a Vote, doing so will remove all previous votes indicated with your name before the new vote is cast--in this way, a player who has a role-related ability to double vote will essentially 'unvote' before casting their new vote, rather than having a lingering double vote.
In the case of specific votes (such as an ability that may put a vote called [Extra Vote] on a player), you must use specific tags to submit these votes AND to remove them if you want to unvote with just that [Extra Vote].
If you unvote, you will remove all votes controlled by you in the votecount.
Vote counts will be edited into the first post of each page (so long as I can keep up, yo). Other announcements and requested vote counts will receive their own post.

DURING THE NIGHT:

Spoiler:
Night will have a 72-hour deadline. Extensions will not be given, unless a player has to be replaced during the Night.
If you have a role with a Night action, your choices are due to me by the posted deadline. If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
If you expect not to be here to submit your night action during the night, you may send one in in advance.
Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the confirmation stage).

MISCELLANEOUS:

Spoiler:
Any and all anti-town factions in this game have day-chat.
Please bold all requests to myself so that they don’t get missed.
Do not use standard MafiaScum purple (#800080). This is my color. All other colors are fine.

No invisible/small/encrypted text is allowed (if you can't read it, don't post it).
You are not allowed to edit your posts, if you have the ability to do so.
If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM me privately. Do not post issues/complaints in the game thread.
If you do not understand how your role functions, feel free to PM me.
If you want to chat about Space Dandy, other great anime, or Breastraunts, you can PM me about that, too.
I may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed. These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
Rules violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill, as the Mod sees fit. Modkills may be accompanied by a change to day/night and the offender’s role will be changed to Neutral Survivor, which guarantees a loss.
- Just know, it's all about intention. If you genuinely mess up, I'll try to cut you some slack. If I determine you're trying to compromise the integrity of the game though, you won't be too happy with the punishment.
Any situation not explicitly covered above is subject to my discretion and will be handled as I see fit on a case-by-case basis.
I reserve the right to modify these rules at any time, so long as I inform you in thread.

THE GOLDEN RULE:

Spoiler:
Please remember that this is a game and your main objective is to have fun!
I created Space Dandy Mafia II to bring people together and celebrate a game I love, but, ultimately, to have fun time on site.
Be considerate of each other, don’t get personal, and enjoy the game. Playing to win does not preclude being considerate of each other! Be cool.

SAMPLE ROLEPM:

Spoiler:
PLAYER NAME - DOCTOR GEL
Being a gorilla did not stop him from receiving military rank and his doctorate. What's your excuse?
Image
Wait, I'm not even in the game!?
Don't you know that the happiest moments in a scientist's life is when they come face to face with the unknown?

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

THIS IS THE PUBLIC GAME THREAD.
PLAYERS DO NOT HAVE POSTING ACCESS TO THIS THREAD;
YOU WILL POST IN YOUR PRIVATE DIMENSION THREAD INSTEAD.
THIS THREAD WILL BE USED TO KEEP TRACK OF GAME EVENTS THAT ARE PUBLIC BETWEEN ALL DIMENSIONS.

I have updated the 'YOU KNOW, IT WOULD BE FASTER JUST TO FLY' public mechanic in order to clear up some confusion about how the Aloha Oe and Captain-voting mechanics work. These are not changes, just elaborations;
Spoiler: Change Log
Only the Dimension that contains the Aloha Oe can vote for a new Captain.
Even in the case that a new Captain is voted in, the previous Captain can use the Aloha Oe to escape to the other dimension and avoid being replaced by this mutiny, provided the Aloha Oe is functional and doesn't require repairs.
If the Aloha Oe is lynched, the day phase will still continue on until a player is lynched.

The Winner of the Dance-Off will earn ₩100,000,000.

I have updated the 'YOU KNOW, IT WOULD BE FASTER JUST TO FLY' public mechanic in order to clear up some confusion about how the Aloha Oe's dimension transferal works during the Day Phase. These are not changes, just elaborations;
Spoiler: Change Log
If the Aloha Oe transfers dimensions during the Day, it can NOT transfer during the subsequent Night phase.
Transferring Dimensions during the Day will reset the vote-count in both Dimensions. If it is done within 72 hours of the Deadline, the Deadline will be extended to be 72 hours long.

Spoiler: Change Log

I have updated the 'YOU KNOW, IT WOULD BE FASTER JUST TO FLY' public mechanic in order to clear up some confusion about how the unique CAPTAIN abilities function. These are not changes, just elaborations;
Spoiler: Change Log
If a new Captain is elected, they will only receive all of the benefits of being Captain (such as control of the Aloha Oe, its Neighborhood, potential unique CAPTAIN abilities, etc.) at the start of the day following their election, and only if the Aloha Oe is still in their Dimension.

Activated night abilities will still affect any targets they had in the starting dimension, even if these actions would resolve after the 'Miscellaneous' step in NAR.

A LYNCH HAS BEEN REACHED FOR DAY 1:

Sometimes it isn't enough just to be a Dandy guy in Space. Dandyism transcends all borders, races, religions, creeds, and even genders. She-Dandy knew this. She-Dandy was the most rough-and-tumble, cool-as-cucumbers chick this side of the cosmos. She combed the galaxy like her perm, on the hunt for aliens. Planet after planet she searched, discovering bizarre new creatures both friendly and not. Such were the spectacular adventures of She-Dandy and her sexy space crew in space.

Alas, they were not long for this world. Someone, or
something
, detested She-Dandy's existence. "Don't you just feel like a female counterpart to a more actualized person? Don't you feel like you're just the female 'version' of someone much more interesting and nuanced?" She-Dandy would have never agreed with this line of logic--she was her own dandy self. It was for that very reason that she had to be destroyed, at least, in the eyes of her aggressors.

She-Dandy was last seen leaving a space-ramen shop. No one ever discovered where she went after that. It's as if she just ceased to exist...
...was that properly spooky? I'm not sure if I'm nailing this or floundering. I'm floundering, aren't I? Oh jeeze. I hope this is adequate enough. I guess it's more than other folks do, you know, just say, "Oh, so and so died." So blase. I can't just do that! I've got to give some relevance, you know? Some people, jeeze.

Nothing trumps the rump!
It's Dandy but you can call me She-Dandy.

During the pre-game, you may form a neighborhood with any other player--you will always accompany that player to whatever dimension they go to.

Say what they will about me, I can always spot a tomcat.

You may only use this ability if you are the CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
Your neighbor will always be a part of your crew, enabling up to a 5 player crew.

No one out-dandies She-Dandy!

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

I've expanded the 'GENERAL RULES' section on quoting/paraphrasing posts to better reflect my policy on copying posts from one thread to another:

You can always copy and paste the full content of your own posts (outside of moderator communication) so long as it does not contain any links to where it came from or any timestamps.
You may only ever paraphrase posts by other players and this is also subject to the same link/timestamp restriction.

A kill has resolved during Night 1:

Dandy's career of choice, if you could even call it a 'career', is that of Alien Hunter. While his day to day alien hunting may not pay the bills, he occasionally has snatched a rare alien--only to promptly blow most of his reward money at BooBies. Such was Alien Hunter Dandy's life; Aliens and BooBies. BooBies and Aliens. Aliens. BooBies. Sometimes even Aliens
with
BooBies. While some might get tired of such a lifestyle, Dandy was either too thick or just too plain adventurous to give up on scouring the universe for that next paycheck.

Unfortunately, there are some who have a problem with those who poke their noses around where they don't belong. At some point in his rough-and-tumble Aliens-and-BooBies lifestyle, Alien Hunter Dandy saw something that he shouldn't have. I totally mean that, too. I'm not just building mysterious suspense because I haven't really figured out what a fitting antagonist would be yet, or anything. I mean, if anything, I totally have this all figured out unlike a certain Dandy who won't be turning in any more Aliens or crashing at BooBies any time soon. Or ever. What I mean is that he's kaputz. Y'know. Dead. Alien Hunter Dandy is dead. Actually, can I take that back? Can he just be 'mysteriously disappeared'? Because then I can keep my options open for, I dunno, if he comes back, but as an evil cyborg bent on hunting BooBies and eating Aliens or something. I mean, you can't do much with 'dead', but 'mysteriously vanished' has all sorts of allure. Let's go with that, then.

Alien Hunter Dandy mysterious vanished into the uncaring void that is the cosmos.

...

...

...I'm so good at this.

Y'think we should take them by the registration center?

Once per day, you may target a player to learn if they aren't human. At night, you may jailkeep any target non-human player.

You might as well give up! I'm the number 1 alien hunter!

You may only use this ability if you are the CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
You may instead kill non-human players with your other ability.

Stranger things have happened, buddy.

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

A LYNCH HAS BEEN REACHED FOR DAY 2:

Not everyone was just bumbling around, doing a whole bunch of nothing. Some guys out there in the cold void of Space were on the prowl, hunting more than just aliens and all-you-can-eat-wings deals. Enter Inspector Dandy, hot on the heels of the Dimensional Conspiracy to--

--what's that? No one cares? Oh.
Oh. I was going to say some really cool things about him, though. Like a eulogy, but, y'know, cooler. I guess you figured out by now that when I mention someone, they usually, y'know. Yeah. They're already dead. It's not me! Don't blame me! I just--anyway. Just trust me, I had some cool flavor for all this, but you don't care about that. All you want are the grizzly details, right? I bet you're not even reading this. You're just gonna look at what's under here, right? I mean, why am I even still doing this? Ugh. Whatever. Hope you have a cool weekend, too.

Hot on the case. The Space Case.

3x Shot; at night, you may target a player to learn all of their non-factional abilities, including if they ever could gain access to a kill.

The Case of Space.

You may only use this ability if you are the current CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
You may use two shots of your investigative ability in order to apply its effects to any player in any dimension.

Murder, she wrote.

A kill has resolved during Night 2:

Not everyone is Dandy.

Did you think that? Did you really think every single person in the whole wide cosmos had enough swagger to really deem themselves 'dandy'? Dandyism is something that transcends all races, creeds, and societies, but that calling simply isn't for everyone. No, no, not at all. Some folks are happy just being who they are, and who they are could be anything. So, let's stop talking about Dandies for awhile and just talk about someone else, yeah?

In one corner of the universe, there was a little robot who wanted nothing more than to be helpful. He tried his best and when he realized his software was outdated, he went for other methods. One particular QT unit was snide at times, rude at others, but always was looking to help out those in need. There were those that noticed, but most robotics enthusiasts overlooked the QT line and, over time, they faded into obscurity. The QT that I speak of may very well be the last in the galaxy; but he'd never know it thanks to his decade-old databanks.

The saddest thing happened one day. This QT disappeared without a trace and no one even really cared. I wish I could chalk this up to some big conspiracy to rid the universe of those who would stop the oncoming darkness that dooms us all, but there really isn't anything like that going on. I mean, it'd be important if some sinister group with ill intentions for the multiverse had sacked this particular QT as a part of their ongoing efforts to undermine the last few stalwart guardians of the cosmos so that they may impose their rule. If something like that was going on, it'd make a much more interesting story. Nevermind all of that fantasy mumbo-jumbo, though. QT? Who's that? Let's get back to the Dandy adventures, baby.

KilltheStory was killed on Night 2. He was
QT

The Space Protagonists
.
KilltheStory's full role functions as follows:

Spoiler:
KilltheStory - QT
What do you think your trade in value is?
Image
Be still, my hard drive! My circuits rarely get this aroused!
You wanna shoot me in the face and see if I wake up tomorrow?

Each day you may investigate a player to learn if they have any non-factional abilities with remaining uses; at night you may bodyguard the same target.

You can scope out the aliens while Dandy 'pretends' to ogle the ladies.

You may only use this ability if you are the CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
You can have the ship use its Dimension Drive to move to the the Dimension with the most scum in it.

If we don't get to work hunting aliens, the story is never going to go anywhere and our viewers will stop watching!

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

A LYNCH HAS BEEN REACHED FOR DAY 3:

With all these folks up and disappearing, something had to give. That's when they found him--the big oaf who was just lugging people off into the far reaches of Space. When they gave him the third degree about offing Dandies, he wouldn't say a word. Big dude just crossed his arms, bit off his tongue, and choked himself on his own blood. Pretty gruesome, if you ask me.

Reminds me of those old stories about cave ogres who would just kidnap and eat people. Don't know if this guy was eating people, though. It was very frightening when they did find him. On that day, Dandykind received a grim reminder. We lived in fear of the titans, and were disgraced to live in these cages we called Dimensions.

HobbesDuncan was lynched on Day 3. He was
Big Dandy

Big Dandy's full role functions as follows:

HobbesDuncan - BIG DANDY
I can't say much about Big Dandy, besides that he's, y'know, Big.

...and he looks like Nardwuar.
You are Big. Big Dandy.

You may not be killed.

I'm pretty sure it's also an Attack on Titan reference.

You may only use this ability if you are the current CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
Your CREW may consist of only you and a single other player, if you desire.

There really isn't much to say about Big Dandy.

You are aligned with the The Consortium (Scum). You win when all Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one member of The Consortium is alive, or if The Consortium ever controls majority votes in all Dimensions.

A kill has resolved during Night 3:

Every now and then, I like to draw a Dandy.
Every now and then, they come out dead.
It's not that I mean to draw a dead Dandy, it's just that, for some reason, they end up that way. I was really hoping this one wouldn't, but that's just how it turned out. That's just how it goes sometimes. You get real into it, and the art takes itself where it may. That's really my favorite thing about being a creative; the process of creation is really exciting. You never know for sure how things will turn out, but in that moment when you're creating it, there's a magic there. I'm sorry that this Dandy turned out dead as well, but that's art.

That's it! I'm gonna re-arrange that pretty face of yours so your mama wouldn't know it!
Image
From now on, the only girls I'm going after are the 2-D kind!
If you want to be Dandy, you better get back to the drawing board.

During the pregame and each subsequent night phase, you may make your best attempt to draw Space Dandy.
You must send me this drawing in order for this ability to have any effect.
If your night action fails for any reason, so does this ability.
If you drew Space Dandy during the previous phase, you are untargetable and unlynchable during the day.

Dandy so hard mothafuggas wanna lynch you.

You may only use this ability if you are the current CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
You are no longer Untargetable or Unlynchable for the rest of the game, but you are confirmed as town across both Dimensions.

It's okay; most artists make it big after their death anyway.

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

A LYNCH HAS BEEN REACHED FOR DAY 4:

Right now I can't move; that is my fate, but
I won't give up anymore because I have awakened
My burning, throbbing heart reflects the era
It has the color of vividly blazing flames

Crying, though I can't see it right now...
Searching, a guidepost floats up ahead

I wanna have a pure time
Everyone's a noble mind!

Orange was lynched on Day 4. They were
Mobile Suit Dandy
, aligned with
The Space Protagonists
.
Mobile Suit Dandy's full role functions as follows:

Spoiler:
Orange - MOBILE SUIT DANDY
Looks more like Space Runaway Ideon Dandy to me.
Image
It's not anime!
You will see the tears of time.

If you are the very last surviving town player, town will win.

You are Mobile Suit Dandy for a reason.

You may only use this ability if you are the current CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
You may use the Aloha Oe slot to vote in a way that counts as two votes for you. Use the bolded vote tag [HAWAII YANKEE: Player Name].
You may use the Aloha Oe slot to submit a night action that is a Jailkeeping action.

There are no ghosts in space.

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

A kill has resolved during Night 4:

Narrator here--so, it's pretty clear that I've just been winging this. I mean, I called the previous Night as Night 5 when it was Night 4 and no one told me anything about it. That's crazy. That's nuts. I bet I could tell all of you that each of you was Space Dandy and you'd just roll with it and believe it! Crazy. But yeah. I've been kinda phoning it in. Maybe I've been busy? Eeeeh.

What's that? None of that makes sense? Oh, uh... Yeah, I guess it wouldn't if we were following the usual assumption that you're immersed in this world that I'm narrating. I mean, okay, okay, look. We'll reboot. Yeah! A reboot, that's what's fresh. That's what's poppin'. We'll just start over from the beggining and ignore all the corpses that have been piling up in the lost vectors of Space. That's really for the best. Really is. Glad we could agree on that. Yeah.

Space Dandy: he's a dandy guy in space. He combs the galaxy like his pompadour on the hunt for aliens. Planet after planet he searches, discovering bizarre new creatures both friendly and not. These are the spectacular adventures of Space Dandy and his brave space crew...

...in space.

No one died on Night 4.

A LYNCH HAS BEEN REACHED FOR DAY 5:

Wait--you've already heard this story? Oh, well, maybe let me finish for once!! I was going to say that one day, everyone ganged up on this poor QT and dragon-kicked his ass across the milky way! So there! You guys are the ones who did this to poor QT! You! It's your cross to bear, insolent story-interrupting jerks!

Jeanne11 was lynched on Day 5. She was
QT
, aligned with
The Space Protagonists
.
QT's role functions as follows:

Spoiler:
Jeanne11 - QT
It's okay, you're just a little defective.
Image
I assure you, we have no intention of touching your balls.
Is that your final Dandy?

You may only use this ability if you are the current CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
You can have the ship use its Dimension Drive to move to the Dimension with the most scum in it.

Do you know what is especially wasteful? The emotions of living things.

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

A kill has resolved during Night 5:

...or, at least, some folks enjoyed exploring the galaxy and having adventures. For a select certain down-on-his-luck Dandy, the universe was nothing but suffering, its emptiness offering only ennui. Everyone felt bad for the guy--would he ever get to know the pleasures of not being stuck in a garbage place in space, with depressing allies at his side keeping his spirits forever low? All I can say is that he's gone now and everyone hopes he's somewhere a little happier.

I wanna die...
Imagine how much my life sucks.

You will never be prodded; you may not be replaced due to inactivity.
You may not be the Captain of the Aloha Oe.
You may not vote.
You may not be able to be voted for unless the game is in LYLO.
All non-killing actions that target you will fail.

I wanna die...

A LYNCH HAS BEEN REACHED FOR DAY 6:

It had become very apparent that this universe was overloaded with Dandies--but what was more confounding was that these Dandies were disappearing at an alarming rate. Already, there were Dandy Factions, Dandy Wars, Dandy on Dandy crime, and eventually Weapons of Mass Dandyism were constructed. Thus marked an era known colloquially as 'The Great Dandypression,' where every Dandy was for himself and nary a wulong could be spared for a dandy guy in space.

They say that there was a Dandy think-tank working on finding a solution to all this mess, that there was a concrete reason why Dandies were being snatched up and never heard from again. You ever heard of Smart Dandy? Of course not. That's how effective this anti-Dandy force was. This dark consortium could disappear a Dandy before you even knew they existed. It wouldn't be long before Dandies and Dandyism was put on the universal watch list for all things extinct in the galaxy.

Titus was lynched on Day 6. She was
Smart Dandy
, aligned with
The Space Protagonists
.
Smart Dandy's role functions as follows:

Spoiler:
Titus - SMART DANDY
I have an idea; why don't we try to think of a way to pull all of the universes together?
Image
I know, you guys can take us back to your universe.
I'll call him off. He's got a defense system installed to protect me.

In any dimension you are in, if you would die, the QT in that dimension dies instead.

You see, our Meow is an alien called a Schroedingerian; until you open the box, you'll never know if they'll be alive or dead.

In any dimension you are in, if there is a Meow, that Meow is untargetable.

Let me guess; you guys are Dandy, Meow, and QT, right? Jeeze. You must have pulled a Cosmic String.

You may only use this ability if you are the current CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
Once per game phase, you may ask the moderator any question about the setup so long as it does not pertain to any players or slots.

Easier said than done, kid.

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

A kill has resolved during Night 6:

Some Dandies defy all logic. Some Dandies are more... conceptual, than they are Dandy. Those Dandies have to go. At least, someone must've figured this was the case. In one fell swoop, the elephant was no longer in the room. And by elephant, I meant the Dandy everyone wasn't comfortable around. You know. The big questionmark. Or, more precisely, triangle... mark. Dandy.

3dicerolling was killed on Night 6. He was
Triangle Dandy

You may only use this ability if you are the CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.

Hey, old man! You got a star-shaped birthmark!?

This will fail on non-human characters.
If your neighborhood ever contains 8 total players, living or dead, you gain access to a killing action.
This Kill may only be used once per night phase.

I've gotta gather all eight of the heroes with Star-Shaped Birthmarks!

You may recruit all members of the Aloha Oe Crew to your DANDY neighborhood with your recruit shot.

At first, the Dandies of the Universe disappearing was no big deal. Really, they were just people that happened to be dandy. Calling them Dandies with a capital D is probably the wrong way to go about it. Sure, the galaxy was a little less hip, fly, and, well, dandy, with each disappearance, but none was so egregious that anyone really cared or put immense effort into trying to thwart whatever force was at work. Philosophical debates broke out about what even constituted a 'dandy' while others argued incessantly over discovering the secrets of the universe despite the fact no book or database could ever give them the information they really needed.

Among this rabble, The Consortium of Dark Dandies met in secret. This disorientation and chaos among dandykind was their plot from the beggining. It was always their intention to dwindle the multiverse down to only a handful of Dandies. Like the plot of some turn-of-the-century martial arts film, every time a Dandy was killed, the very 'dandiness' of the slain Dandy's spirit split among all other Dandies. Narrowing the playing field to only the Dandies that they deemed worthy was The Consortium's endgame, and they finally achieved it when they took out the Dandiest Dandy of them all.

Nothing trumps the rump.
Maybe I should have thought this through a little more.

You may only use this ability if you are the CAPTAIN of the Aloha Oe.
If you are voted out of the Captain position, you can hijack the ship and fly it away to the other Dimension with no crew. This damages the Aloha Oe.

I always wanted to die by extreme sucking!

You are aligned with the Space Protagonists (town). You win when all threats to the Space Protagonists are eliminated and at least one Space Protagonist-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent the same.

At this point in the game, there are 8 players alive (Skybird, Alchemist21, Klingoncelt, Sensei, White Fire, Nahdia, Elbirn, Aloha Oe) and the scum team controls 6 votes.
While I could have played the rest of this game out, turning the game into a rush for the scum team to lynch town would be unfair.
While the scum-team may only control 3 or 4 votes on the following day, there will only be 2 town players left alive with no capability of lynching scum regardless of scenario.
While certain purchased items may prolong this defeat, once again, I would consider it unfair to force a scum-team to turn the game into 'how quick can you lynch town before they purchase, confirm, and use these items'.

Due to achieving their win-condition of controlling a majority vote in all dimensions, the scum team,
The Consortium of Dark Dandies
(consisting of Hobbes Duncan, Elbirn, Alchemist21, and White Fire), win the game.

Pre-Mission Checklist

[X] Dandy Drawing Submitted to Mission Control
Score: 10/10
Result: Unlynchable and Untargetable during Day 1 of mission

[X] Mission Data Trackers Created and Verified

[X] Number of SOU Estimate Completed for Current Dimension (Dimension 1)
SOU Found in Dimension 1: 0
SOU Estimate for Dimension 1: 2

[X] Day 1 Mission Strategy/Goal Decided upon
Goal 1: Identify those who could be QT and Meow
Goal 2: Push team cooperation
Goal 3: Sort Minsc and Boo's alignment

Thoughts

My name is Dandy (that's right, THE Space Dandy), and I am less than two hours away from embarking on a mission of utmost importance; to comb the universe and root out all of the SOU. The mission will be long and trecherous, and will likely span across two dimensions, so I am going to need some help. I cannot do this alone.

I have high hopes of encountering my friends, QT and Meow, along the way so that they can assist me in my endevour. One of my goals for Day 1 of the mission will be to try and find them, so that we can work together towards our ultimate goal of eliminating the SOU. Though, if they are TOO easy to find, it may be the case that they themselves are actually SOU. Therefore, assuming that their goals and mine are the same may be extremely dangerous. Nevertheless, I feel the importance in finding them early on in the mission remains.

I have toyed with the idea of immediately announcing my true identity to all those in Dimension 1, in hopes of rallying everyone and inciting good team cooperation in finding the SOU. However, outing myelf so early could be dangerous. There will be no counter claims, of course (otherwise we've found SOU), but I expect at least one SOU kill every night, and outing myself will make me a high priority target for that. Furthermore, I believe that I can accomplish this goal without taking such drastic measures. Minsc and Boo are in my dimension, and they (specifically Titus) will likely also be pushing for team cooperation. Assuming they aren't SOU, that is.

Therefore, sorting out Minsc and Boo's alliance will be another Day 1 goal of mine. Unfortunatly, I have very little experience in previous missions, with both Titus and Radja, so this may prove to be especially difficult.

As of right now, we are 1 hour and 48 minutes away from mission embarkation and I can barely contain myself. I have full confidence that this will be the wildest, funnest, most Dandiest mission that I have ever been on, and I truely hope that the universe will be a safer place upon completion. I mean, I'm trying to go to BooBies after this and I don't wanna be worried about the SOU while I'm there.

As always,

Stay Dandy, baby.

End of transmission

Thoughts

Have you ever had that feeling that you were walking into a trap? That's how I felt for most of the first day of the mission. I did achieve my team cooperation goal, but I believe that SOU have tried to use my push for team cooperation against me. There is no way that I am believing that there is not SOU in our "town block." However, I believe I am able to turn the tables and use this to my advantage.

I need to stay alive, so that I can be a confirmed Space Protagonist when the time is right. The way I see it, if none of the Space Protagonist block are SOU, then SOU will need to break up the block, and I don't think I'll be a priority target out of the five of us. However, if there are SOU amongst us (which I believe there to be at least one in M&B, Sensei, and Orange), then SOU might prefer to keep the block together. Therefore, they might kill outside of the block. Even if they kill inside of our block though, I still don't think I'll be a priority, since I believe that I did a fairly good job of playing dumb and acting like I believe that we are all Protagonists. So, this trap doesn't really concern me right now, and I think I will continue the act, at least at the outset of the second day, until I feel like I need to adjust my approach.

Unfortunately (or maybe "fortunately"), I no longer believe that I am THE Space Dandy, but that there is at least one other. M&B's unlynchable/unkillable status in Day 1 and with how they mentioned that being the captain of the Aloha Oe would be "OP," and the fact that they are also looking for Meow and QT, leads me to believe that they too are Space Dandy. It's hard for me to believe that two members of the Protagonists are unlynchable in the same dimension though, but it seems that they have an ability to ask a mission related question, if they are elected Captain of the Aloha Oe. In the end, I have not been able to come to a solid conclusion on M&B's alignment, and will continue to work towards this goal during the second day.

I picked up no signs of QT during the first day of the mission, but M&B believes that Jeanne is Meow, and I think I agree with them. However, I'm not as sure about M&B's conclusion that Jeanne is a member of the Protagonists. She probably is, but I am going to need to see more from her before deciding.

I honestly can't believe that Dimension 2 lynched Cake Wings, thereby crippling our inter-dimensional communication. This also makes Space Pip a lynch candidate for the upcoming day. I will need to be on the lookout for those who want to push for their lynch. I fully believe that Space Pip could be SOU, but I am leaning more towards them being a member of the Protagonists, and being an easy target for SOU to mislynch. I'll have no choice but to be on the lynching wagon, if it comes to it, for the woolong profit, but I will be very wary of anyone who is driving the wagon.

While I do believe White Fire's claim, the way they leaned on the fact that if they die, the Space Bazaar goes away as well, gives me a lot of concern. They could very well be SOU, and using scare tactics to keep us from lynching them.

I hope that the Aloha Oe comes over to Dimension 1 during the night, so that we can get a good count of the number of SOU in our dimension. It really all depends on which dimension the NK happens in, we end up finding out that we have more than 3 SOU in our dimension, then I will probably push for the lynch of one of the ones who came over on the Aloha Oe. Otherwise, I will probably just push for the lynch to happen in Dimension 2 again.

I think that just about covers it, for now. Hopefully, I'll have time to put my thoughts down a little more often going forward.

As always,

Stay Dandy, baby.

Thoughts

Impostors! Impostors everywhere. Everyone knows that I'm the real Space Dandy, baby!

What the hell is going on? I'm going to need to get to the bottom of this everyone claiming Space Dandy business. I'll need to make sure that those that have already claimed are truely claiming "Space Dandy," and not some other Dandy.

Space Pip shouldn't have claimed Space Dandy when he was really Investigator Dandy. His role mechanics seeming so different than mine made me believe that his claim was fake. Which, in fact, it was, but they were still members of the Protagonists. However, as my previous log said, I was prepared for Space Pip's lynch to happen today and definitely believe that there were multiple SOU on his wagon.

I was starting to think that Sensei had an investigative role, with a guilty result on Alchemist, but I'm doubting that, now that Space Pip's alignment and role has been revealed. Plus the fact that Sensei was the major proponent of Space Pip's lynch.

I still believe there to be at least one SOU in the group of M&B, Sensei, and Orange.

Jeanne? Her and Orange seemed to have been in sync with each other about the whole QT and Meow thing.

KlingonCelt? I could see her being SOU, and may very well be my Day 3 lynch target.

That is, if I decide not to go after Sensei.

Honestly, I'm utterly unsure right now how I am going to proceed, but my Day 3 strategy will need to remain flexible in order for it to be a success. For now, I need to prepare for dawn to break on Day 3 in just under two hours.

As always,

Stay Dandy, baby.

Thoughts

SOU Found! Take that! Didn't I tell you that I'm either the best there is, or I'm nothing? Looks like I AM the best there is, baby!

Ok, so everyone knows now that I am Space Dandy, and that I can be confirmed as such upon being elected the captain of the Aloha Oe. I elected to keep the fact that I am unlynchable a secret though, in hopes of someone trying to push my lynch. That didn't happen, unfortunately, so if I make it through the night unscathed, I am thinking about claiming that my first power is that I am X-Shot Bulletproof, where X > 1, and that I have to choose, each night, whether or not I use my power. Plus, if I choose not to use my BP during the night, I must submit a drawing of myself to Mission Control. Failure to submit this drawing results in X automatically decreasing by one. I will also add in that once I am elected captain of the Aloha Oe, X is automatically reduced to 0. That will tie it all up nicely with the way that I said that I didn't want to be captain until everyone was willing to re-elect me captain for the rest of the mission.

I am still uncertain as to whether or not I should go ahead and claim this during Day 4, but when the time comes, I'm sure that this (or some version of it) will be my claim.

I also continue to be uncertain about many of the original Demension 1 members, and actually feel like I have a better overall grasp of the alignments of the original members of Dimension A.

Reasonably Rational and Elbirn are probably Protagonist members due to their early votes on Hobbes, along with Nahdia as well. Everyone on the wagon after Nahdia is in the "Space Bus" zone, which probably means that there are a couple of SOU in Sensei, Orange, jeanne, and White Fire. This further supports my going theory of at least one of M&B, Sensei, and Orange are SOU (though, I'm starting to come off my M&B suspicion a little). Though, I have been wondering if Sensei has some sort of investigative power. It would explain his hesitance about claiming, and the way he cast that empty vote on Alchemist at the outset of Day 2. So, if I had to pick, I'd say that Orange is SOU. However, if Sensei isn't killed soon, then my SOU read on him becomes stronger.

I'm sure that I will be pushed for my hammer vote, even though it was a legitimate accident. I was thinking that it took 9 to lynch, instead of 8. But you know what? It don't matter, baby! I can't be lynched, so bring on the SOU pushes about how scummy I am for hammering. I absolutely can't wait to get started.

I think DBR could very likely be SOU. They were noticeably frustrated after my hammer vote. So, if they come out screaming at me, then that's where my attention will go. Otherwise, I believe I will focus on the original Dimension 1 members. Specifically, Orange and jeanne.

Of course, that's all assuming that the dimensions stay the same for Day 4. Otherwise, a lot of this is useless. But that's all for now.

Stay Dandy, baby.

This game was solely created because I wanted to try out dividing up a Large Theme into two smaller games.
Furthermore, I wanted most (or even all) players to be given a 'generic' role PM so that Flavor Claiming couldn't be games.
It became very clear that the best flavor to attach to these core mechanics was that of Space Dandy, which is why I went with Space Dandy despite running an earlier iteration of the theme.

I want to know how you felt about both of those core elements:
Did having two smaller games make it easier to follow along with a large theme?
How did having 'generic' role flavor that flipped into specific role flavor feel?

I feel as though one of the failings of the multiple-private-game-threads approach is that replace-ins will be stunted in the case of any player slot that has been in more than one thread.

I also feel like the 'shop' mechanic in this game flopped, as many items did not have enough incentive to be bought publicly and town leaders browbeat players into only being able to make certain purchases. Furthermore, since the shop was tied to the ship, many players couldn't access it, either. This has helped guide the design of the shop mechanic that will be featured in a future game of mine, so I am grateful that I got to run an iteration, even though I feel as though it was a failure.

Thank you so much for playing.
I hope everyone was able to have a good time. Tensions ran pretty high in this game, and so I want players to be able to put that behind them and walk away satisfied with the overall experience.

I don't think I'll be handling flavor in this way again any time soon.
As far as splitting larger games into smaller games, expect that mechanic to return, albeit not any time soon.

My next game, Bloodborne Mafia, will feature chat-after-death, role-play/flavor-heavy 'events', dungeons, and a shop mechanic.
It's gonna be a neat time, and probably at the far end of mechanical/flavor complexity that I am comfortable with.
I've already invested nearly 100 hours across several months simply putting the game itself together. It should be a really fun time, and, hopefully, my best game yet.

After that, I plan on running some of the themes I promised beforehand, such as Wakfu, Heroes of Might and Magic, Final Fantasy Tactics, Undertale, Shadowrun, Legend of Five Rings, and/or Parasyte. It really depends on player interest as well as what mechanics I feel like experimenting with. Regardless; all of these planned setups will be far simpler and have more ease of play than Bloodborne, which is really going to be overwhelming in terms of how much flavor and mechanical odds-and-ends I've got in there.

I designed the player mechanic first and, when designing the store mechanic, I always intended for it to have less leeway than the player-specific mechanic.
Yes, it was a fuck-up on my part not to be more specific about it.
I told Titus on numerous occasions that her role had more leeway than the Library Card.
Furthermore, when answering the question about "How many Town Space Dandies are there?" I made the mistake of interpreting the question as solely being one to determine multiplicity rather than to confirm alignment of specific slots. The question "How 'Space Dandies' are there" would have yielded 17, which essentially would have told Titus (who knew there were 4 scum from an earlier question) that there were 13 town Dandies anyway. I'm sorry this whole thing caused so much difficulty for the game, though.
In post 41, Drixx wrote: Also, there were a couple paths to winning available to the town when you ended the game, but too late now I suppose.
No; the scum wincon specifies that when they have voting majority, they win.
Scum had voting majority. They won.
Continuing to run the game would have forced the game into a time-attack. The scum team was already prepared to all align their schedules to log in and quickly lynch a player they knew had no protections from being lynched. Continuing the game would've run contrary to what I feel is the rhetorical spirit of mafia--it would have strictly become a game based around mechanical posturing and timing when scum already earned what I feel is a win.
In post 41, Drixx wrote: I could say way more about the game being broken, but it would just beat up someone I like, so just going to say nothing further.
If you want to powwow about general balance issues, that's fine. I feel like the dimensional mechanic was strongly scum-oriented even with the ship scan. Starting town with the ship would have been more balanced, but I would have given the scum team 5 members in that case.

Really could have been more swingy I think. I don't know.
I'd probably go
4 scum and 1 traitor
Scum know they have a traitor but don't know his identity
Traitor doesn't show up on ship scan, knows his scum team, but can't deliver the NK unless he's the last surviving member of the team.
It's a decent way to do 4.5 scum.

Scum did not control a majority vote at the end of Day 7.
Scum did not control a majority vote until the start of Day 8. That's why the game ended why it did.
Apologies if that feels rubbish.

@Cerb: Play Bloodborne Mafia when I run it. It should tickle your fancy. :D

This game had some pretty heavy gimmick stuff that I think played out awfully.
Bloodborne should be a much more satisfying setup for someone who wants to figure out all the strats and stay invested--even in post-death.

I've got literally everything for it finished and ready to go.
I'm solely waiting on my review crew to give me the thumbs-up to run it.
I'm hopeful that I can put it in the Large Game Queue within a week.
Which means, if things go the way I want, it'll be in actual signups anywhere from a week to two weeks from now.
Worst case, my reviewers take their time and don't let me run it and then we don't see it for awhile. :P

And Varsoon. What would the space adventure be like D:
It's okay--I think the shop was a great idea but I also think I executed it poorly. The shop should have been available to everyone, with everyone capable of earning Wulongs. Tying it to the ship simply made it unavailable to most players most the time.

The Space Adventure would be a flavor/roleplay heavy event where the entire crew narrowly dodges the pursuit of Doctor Gel while trying to capture a rare alien worth tons of wulongs. I was planning on having the adventure seem like it would give a big wulong payout, only to make it such that, as usual, the Dandy Crew catches a worthless alien in the end. The reward prize was going to be either some amalgamation of shop items, private chat for the rest of the game, and/or The Booty.

In post 85, Cerberus v666 wrote:Umm.

Varsoon?

How did random recruit Elbirn? His power didn't work on aliens......or non humans or something....and chameleonian isn't human.
I address this in the Mod topic--it was legitimately a mistake. Every character who was not 'Dandy' was intended to be considered an 'Alien' for the purposes of any of the 'Alien' mechanics. I messed up and forgot that when Elbirn got recruited, but since no power had made a distinction on Elbirn before and due to the nature of the Chameleonian as a character, I decided that the Chameleonian would be more interesting if he could be affected by all game effects that target both Aliens and Dandies. I think, in the game, creatures like Triangle Dandy are certainly alien, but through sheer nature of being 'Dandy' (and due to the fake-claims I forced on all the Dandies), anyone non-Dandy was more 'alien' than he.

I apologize if it feels like I was leading the Scum Team at moments. I simply reminded them of basic gameplay mechanics when they came up. I do the same for town players at times--If a town player clearly presents a flawed understanding of their role or a public mechanic, I will often PM them to make sure they actually do understand how it works.

I agree that this setup is scum-sided--this is one of the struggles I had in reviewing this game, as my reviewer felt it was very town-sided. I think the truth of the matter is that it is very swingy. If I were to re-do this setup, I would rule that CURRENT Captains can't be forcibly moved between dimensions unless they decide to as a part of their own role mechanics. That said, your argument that the scum team starting as Captain is unfair falls flat for me for a number of reasons (all of these before the shop was made, which upset the game balance a bit due to its nature of coming after everything before it);
-There were 4 scum in a 20 player setup that included a Dimensional Sensor in it and no way for the scum to avoid the sensor aside from giving up their kill.
-If scum loaded up their ship with scum (Elbirn makes a crew of HobbesDuncan and SugarJan, assuming SugarJan has claimed and they understand she can't vote), then goes to the other dimension, a number of things happen. First of all, SugarJan sees that the Sensor scan reports 4 scum in the dimension when, on the previous day, two townies said that it had to have been 2 scum. This is a strong indicator that scum came over on the ship or something is messing with the scan. Elbirn is never made Captain again and everyone the ship (sans Jan, obviously) is lynched. Even if town somehow doesn't piece this together, Sensor scans bringing back 4 scum will allow town with communicative roles to let the other dimension keep from being hasty with lynches. Furthermore, assuming a mislynch and successful kill in the now-loaded Dimension, there are still 7 town and 4 scum with a total of 12 'living players'.

While that 'perfect scenario' would take 7 to lynch, which is not possible for town given town only have 6 votes. Town can still elect one of themselves Captain, and scum still don't have a voting majority, but I do see how that could be considered an issue. Still, like I said, there would overwhelming evidence confirming 2 scum within 3 players and a very clear need for town to take control of the ship. There are very many scenarios where this backfires hugely for scum, confirming upwards of half the townies.

The Dimensional pull doesn't assure scum a win through the nature of She-Dandy and Triangle Dandy coming over with the pull, but I do think I should have made it limited-shot (as originally intended) rather than non-consecutive.

Regardless, the game didn't play out towards some awful-for-town-as-early-as-D2 scenarios.

Unfortunately, if it starts before the 17th of June, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to sit this one out. I'll be out of town for almost an entire month, due to military training, and I won't be able to be nearly as active in a game as I should be.

I'll keep my eye out for it though, just in case. Has it already been announced?
I posted an advert for it somewhere--but as far as when it goes into signups, that heavily relies on a lot of factors I can't control.
In post 112, SirCakez wrote:It hasn't been announced officially but the game advert is in the end of Saga Frontier Xkfyu if you want to check it out.
Thanks for modding Varsoon! Maybe one day I'll get to spend one of your games not in the graveyard :p
Thank you~
Hahah, maybe so! I loved having you for this game. In Bloodborne Mafia, dead players will have many ways to still be in the game--All dead players can send an anonymous message per day and, furthermore, dead players who are a part of one of the many Nightmare PTs in the game will be able to continue to communicate within their Nightmare PT even if they die in the main game. Also, the main game thread will be public this time, so no being in the dark!!
In post 114, Xkfyu wrote:Holy hell! I just read that advert. It sounds like an amazing game.
:D
I'd love to have you in that game--I enjoyed your dedication and logs/drawings for this game a lot.
That said, I'll likely be sending out a PM to everyone who played in this game when it goes into signups. I like to retain a playerbase and I think one of the failings of Mafiascum is that games aren't advertised very well.

Absolutely.
The first few days of the game will have a pre-game sort of setup/orientation phase where everyone will be able to ask me questions and get situated with the various mechanics in the game.
Some roles may have abilities that function during that phase, too.

Yup. It should also serve as a moment for people to sort out their questions about "What if..." strategies and such.
I think that this game was weakened by having lots of players spend time strategizing around mechanics only for me to say "No, no, it doesn't work that way."
I'd like to clear that up before gamestart in Bloodborne.

Hah! GET PRANKED, ELBIRN

But no really it wasn't intentional from the start but it probably should've been because the Chameleonian is, like, god or something. He's also so good at being you that you might be a Chameleonian and have forgotten it.

You should have counted as 'alien' regardless because I wanted town's alien-snatching/killing stuff to work on your slot. I never revoked that aspect of your role.

Day-time Kills would affect any Captain and could've ended up in the setup via scum's Varsoon Dandy.
The real use of it was that you could essentially have two bulletproof townies;

Only the ELECTED CAPTAIN has bulletproof on the night following their election.
But your ability would let you be bulletproof so long as you are CURRENT CAPTAIN.
So, for instance:
If you are the Captain and then town elects another Captain
Both you and that newly elected Captain are bulletproof.

But yeah, that's about it.

I feel like I'm being really hard on myself over this setup. A lot of things didn't work out the way I envisioned them, but so long as everyone had fun times, maybe it's not so bad.

I aim to make Bloodborne the best game I've ever run, and I'm very excited for it. The Flavor is going to be the best this site has ever seen!!

I'm going to bite my tongue with how many times I've had to repeat how this damn mechanic works.
During the day, you vote for a Captain.
When the day ends, the person with the most votes is the ELECTED CAPTAIN during the night.
The ELECTED CAPTAIN chooses a crew and is kill immune for the night.

If you were the ELECTED CAPTAIN during the previous night and the Aloha Oe is still around, you then become the CURRENT CAPTAIN.
The CURRENT CAPTAIN gets access to their CAPTAIN ABILITY, as well as the Aloha Oe's vote, roleblock, dimensional-shift, and neighborhood.
That's it.

Sometimes, the CURRENT CAPTAIN won't be the ELECTED CAPTAIN because town will go, "Aw screw that guy let's elect someone else."

I really hope that Bloodborne Mafia having an 'orientation' phase will help people understand its mechanics, because, honestly, it is far more complex than this game.
At the very least, the MASTER OF THE HUNT in Bloodborne Mafia won't get any sort of kill immunity, so I won't have to repeat how it works a billion times.

Look, man, I've admitted that this is a scum-leaned setup because I feel the Dimensional mechanic leans scum even with town starting as Captain.

Scum had to play very smart in this setup to avoid half of town being sensor-confirmed and town had to play smart to avoid scum dominating their dimensions. It was a setup that required a lot from both teams so they wouldn't get trounced and I'm sorry that it ended up not being balanced well. :/

Yeah, the game Drixx is putting together down the line is going to be pretty impressive if we can pull it off.

@Cakez: <3 I like the idea of bringing a player on to have a significant effect on the game.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, at least conceptually.

@Elbirn: I don't know when Bloodborne will hit signups, but, hopefully after your (hopefully short) break. :3

@Cerb: Ship wouldn't default back to scum if Elbirn was ever lynched or if a more recent Captain-Elect was in the same dimension. Furthermore, yoinking someone out of being Captain only works if Alchemist is alive, in the other dimension than the Captain, the ability isn't on cooldown, and the target is elligible to be pulled.

@Klingoncelt: You're the sweetest.

Funny side-note: Andrius saw this public thread and thought I was running some high-concept game with no players or something. Like I was just posting death flips for my own amusement every few weeks.

In post 176, Cerberus v666 wrote:Varsoon: about the idea of you dropping in ideas. A pretty major thing was you informing the scum team that they could designate an action to occur at day start. The reason why this in particular is upsetting is because at the same time, in another PT, town players were discussing taking an action(having skybird change dimensions) which we ALSO wanted to have occur as early in the day as possible, but you didn't feel the need to inform/remind US of the possibility...and then shortly afterwards you express excitement at the upset scum are pulling off, when said upset wouldn't have occurred if you had given both parties the exact same information/reminder at the exact same time.

Speaking of that particular interaction, had both skybird and alchemist21 set their abilities for day start, what would have occurred?
I apologize for that, then. I tend to be chattier with my scum-teams and I often do not comment in other PTs--mostly due to the nature of the informed minority in games. That said, if anyone ever asked about changing dimensions to be queued for daystart, I would have told them they could.

In the event that multiple privately-submitted actions are queued on the same 'trigger'/daystart, I resolve them in NAR order. In the case of the actions in question, the Dimensional Pull would have still happened first because it resolves between the 'Redirect' and 'Block' phases of NAR whereas the Ship travel resolves as 'Miscellaneous' in NAR.

Regardless, I will be including a section on 'queuing private actions' in my general setup rules from here on out because I do think it is a nebulous area of ruling that I need to be clearer on and just poking my head in when I notice I should to say, "Oh yeah you can queue that" is clearly not working.

People really rallied together to call the shots about how players should use the shop in this game.
I kinda didn't like that.
In Bloodborne Mafia, I'm really hoping that players will use the shop in a somewhat cynical manner. I don't want a town bloc browbeating players out of getting cool stuff, y'know?
I've put a lot of work into the design of Bloodborne Mafia in order to prevent that and to circumvent a ton of the issues I had with the mechanical odds and ends of this game.
I hope that it'll be a success and, ideally, the best game of Mafia ever run on this site.

That's one of the things I'm designing around in Bloodborne Mafia.
There will be private purchases and public ones.
The private ones are the questionable purchases.
The public ones almost all have to do with voting mechanics that would be public eventually, anyway.

I also think I've got the pricing far more manageable and balanced in Bloodborne Mafia. The publicly purchased items all are the sorts of ones that could be tested, but the way I am handling confirmation is that a player can very easily lie about purchasing an item. Even if you buy an item and use its effects publicly, you can send me a PM saying that you do not want to confirm its effects, which will make 'forcing' players to prove they did or didn't buy something moot. Hopefully. Also, I hate that sort of approach. If I could get away with it, I'd give a third party extra free kills on anyone who insisted on such rubbish.

Essentially, you will earn two currencies: Blood Echoes and Insight.

Both are earned from lynches, but roles will have ways to earn them uniquely and there will be a mechanic where the voted-in 'Master of the Hunt' can lead a party into a dungeon to earn these currencies too.

Insight is used to privately purchase all sorts of manipulative night action stuff.

Blood Echoes are used to publicly purchase various tools and items that, mostly, will influence and bolster your voting and survivability. Most items purchased this way can only be bought once by any player.

My main concern is that players will all go, "Well no one should buy these weapons unless we consult first" when it really should be "I have the money, I want that weapon, it'll help me out because I know I am town, I should get it so it doesn't fall into scum hands."

Although, one big thing I am thinking of doing is that for publicly purchased items, I will just do the confirmation of purchase in the game thread.
That way there's no player-sided jerkery over forcing people to prove they did or didn't buy a thing when it comes to public items.
I will still keep in the rule about being able to PM me to deconfirm a publicly submitted action, though.

I'm mostly worried that a bunch of jerkoffs will insist certain players spend money on certain items or get lynched.

Yeah--I think making all public items one-time purchases will drive up the 'value' of buying that item as either faction.

Furthermore, I do want the major source of income to be tied to lynches in Bloodborne due to thematic reasons. I want bloodthirsty players to be tempted to lynch others solely to reap the rewards. Bloodborne is all about the sort of madness and bloodlust that overwhelms people engaged in a lynchmob/hunt mentality. One of the cool things is that even you, as a player, succumb to this mentality because beating enemies gives you rewards and even carving up enemies for a few moments after their deaths will regenerate your health. In a lot of ways, the game indoctrinates its player into being a blood-frenzied hunter, which is really awesome and something I want to mechanically incentivize in the theme game I run.

If there's no players in a dimension at all, scum is considered to having a majority vote.
I suppose I should have been painfully specific and written "When your faction controls a majority vote in all dimensions with living players in them."

I've already said it once and I'll say it again--I messed up and should not have reminded anyone of the public information that was available to them, especially when unprompted to do so. In trying to make sure that players understood the information they were entitled to, I made a mistake. I own that.

My frustration comes from my own failure to properly express how things function within my game. It feels as though, no matter the simplicity or precision taken in writing up everything, someone will inevitably misinterpret some aspect of the setup. This isn't a judgment on anyone other than me. It's my duty as a moderator to make sure that the rules are clear. As the previous mistake I made proves--it's problematic to remind players of even basic public aspects of the setup or of the player's own role because doing so could lead to an arguably unfair advantage.

It's for this reason that I brought you on-board to help on Bloodborne, Drixx. I want to make sure all of my language and formatting is simple and clear and can't be misunderstood. I also know that you have a knack for taking games to the far logical/mechanical ends--this runs contrary to my rhetoric-focused approach to games and so, your input in invaluable to me because, as a player, I would not spend the time to think of how to break a certain combination of items to the point of winning a game if it ran contrary to the rhetorical spirit of the game. As a moderator, I try to balance around these mechanical aspects to the best of my ability, but my sensibilites as a player will always keep me from thinking of the mechanics on the same level of depth that you do. I'm sorry if you feel mocked or slighted--on the contrary, my only intention was to insult myself for failing my players.

Furthermore, it's for these reasons that Bloodborne Mafia will feature a 72 hour pre-game phase oriented towards making sure players understand their roles and the mechanics of the game. I'd much rather run into these sorts of semantic issues before the game began or within the first day phase rather than in the final hour or in post. It frustrates me deeply to see players interpret seemingly straightforward rules incorrectly--and it isn't because their interpretation is 'wrong' or 'bad', but that I was not able to use language in a way that properly conveyed what I meant, which is the largest failing that I can make as a professional writer and rhetorician. Furthermore, correcting a player on their false interpretation can be seen as giving that player an unfair advantage, which is even more frustrating to me. I want everyone to just understand their roles and the public mechanics. That's all.

I joke offhandedly about writing things out as a legal document because that's simply not feasible onsite. Rules and role mechanics should be conveyed in a very simple, concrete, straightforward way. Most games have the blessing of being able to use short-hand with a wiki page to explain how a role works; telling someone they are a Doctor, for example, is often clearly understood despite that being a very nebulous thing to write on a role by itself. Theme games often do not have this same ease-of-understanding because the roles are unique to the game. The role PMs in Bloodborne Mafia are already going to be quite large, so I want to do everything I can to keep the language concise and clear in meaning. Overwhelming a player with their role in an already overwhelming setup seems like a surefire way to ensure they become confused or lose track of some ruling somewhere. I'd like to avoid that, if possible.

Once again, I'm sorry for my failings in this game. All I can do is work towards making the next game better and learning from my mistakes. I deeply appreciate all of your criticism and feedback, and I know I can be very off-the-cuff and joking and even crass, but I want you to know that all of that is secondary to the dedication I have to this game and to all of you. You're all interesting, fun, cool people who make this worth the time I invest in it. I hope that I can produce games that are worthy of the quality you've come to expect from Mafiascum and deserving of your time as well.

I want to push this site above and beyond when it comes to the ways in which moderators interact with the playerbase and the quality of games.
I came to this site because it is the best site online for Mafia. I want to ensure that it stays that way. I want to provide the best games of mafia on the entire internet.
In order to do that, I gotta sweat the small stuff. I don't let it destroy my spirit or keep me from doing what I love--rather, it emboldens me to do it right.

@Nahdia: I'm glad you enjoyed the flavor. For this and my previous Space Dandy game, my end-of-phase flavor trended towards shorter, more humorous segments. I try to make sure my flavor narration reflects the tone of the theme. Bloodborne's flavor will be foreboding, mystifying, and exciting. You can expect less humor and a little more writing.

I'm glad you enjoy mafia so much! I've gotten really into it and it always excites me to see other players with more than just a passing interest. That sort of dedication and excitement drives me to make more interesting games.

@Xkfyu: Absolutely. I have no intention of stopping--this is basically all I do when I'm not at work or hanging out with friends. It lets me fill the inbetween time very well.

@Cerb: If you investigated him N1 and saw he was non-human, even if he changed to copying a human later, the abilities would still affect him anyway, just not the investigate.

@Everyone: Bloodborne Mafia is going to go into signups soon. The advert for the game has been posted. Feel free to pre-in or remind me that you already did and I forgot to write it down. :P

Even if it fills today, the pre-game phase will still be 72 hours after everyone confirms their role PMs, so the actual-factual game won't really be running for at least 4 days out.
