I actually agree they're likely not partners. I also think that your chain of events makes exactly as much sense without the first bullet.

No, I knew someone claimed IC by day 3, forgot who it was.
When I'm scum I'm much better "prepared", I would have asked in scum chat who claimed IC by day 3, and I'm always afraid of drawing attention to myself.
