I had a chorus teacher in middle school who called me "OB" because of my initials.

It's cool to be called a brand of tampon when you're in seventh grade.

Actually they don't hurt if they're in far enough (I can go much further here to gross out the guys, but I will restrain myself). Anybody needing further instructions feel free to PM me.

Plus, you can swim with tampons.

You know in middle school we use to sneak inside the school during lunch recess and make prank phone calls to the tampax hotline. It was really fun.

Im not the only one!

I think the only person who hates my period as much as I do is my BOYFRIEND. Since I can get CRAZZZZZZZZZY
Odds are that you only do because you believe you will. Most women don't actually get PMS; they're just conditioned to expect it.
Actually I do get PMS. I know what you are saying and it is definitely true in many instances. However, when its almost time for my period, my emotions DO get out of hand. I'm usually much calmer during my period than right before my period. Its not just that I get depressed or angry, I also can get really excitedly happy, among other things.

I have been working towards controlling it though. Its not as if I try to use PMS as an excuse for my actions. Whenever I realize whats going on, I try to keep on my toes, and try to figure out why I feel the way I do about certain things so that I don't blow up and I don't go on emotional rampages. I can't always control it, but I definitely try to...
Look, I know that nobody likes to be told that something is "in their head", and I obviously can't say with certainly whether your symptoms are "imagined" (and I realise they obviously wouldn't feel "imagined" to you), but the fact that you only list the signs of PMS that are most played up in our cultural (the emotional ones) is a bit telling.

I don't mean to start an argument about it, and if you feel sure that your symptoms are not psychological, that's fine. It's just that it's a very human thing to think that it might be in other people's heads, but it's real for you, and it's important to recognise the fallibility of the brain.

More people are self-conscious about their dandruff than actually have dandruff, after all.
Are you trying to start a fight or something?

Maybe she sites the symptoms most commonly publicized because they are actually common to women.

I don't think most women ever have PMS that causes them to commit murder or anything very serious, but I believe it exists.

Please comment again when you have a uterus.

Sarc trying to comment on PMS is like me trying to tell you it shouldn't hurt if you get kicked in the balls. And if it does, it's probably in your head. Unless you have done a medical study on women and PMS, then you know nothing because you can't even comment from personal experience since you DONT HAVE A UTERUS.

I agree that the brain is a weird place and can influence your body enormously. Stress can actually make you sick. So, yes, I do agree PMS can be in some women's heads. But I never hear that argument when people talk about getting the flu. "You're probably puking because you got so grossed out other people were puking." Which is entirely possible. You can feel sick after watching others get sick. But nobody ever tells you it may be in your head.

So even though Sarc was trying to be sensitive to women, he was actually reinforcing the stereotype that women are crazy/emotional.

I mean. Okay. We may be crazy and emotional. But so are men.

And if he has a large experience of relating too or living with women?

Oh and ladies, I have a question how common is syncing with people you live with, and is there a general time frame for it(occurs over x cycles or sommat)?
I didn't realize Sarcastro had experience with women :P

Syncing is common. Timeframe varies. For instance, mine is already synced with Brandi.

I think libido does peak during ovulation...

I will occassionally get really sensitive nipples during my period. Not all the time for some reason. And they hurt. I remember I even iced them down one time. So that's a concern.

Cramps can make you not feel like having sex. So I understand how some women feel. Sometimes cramps make you feel like you want to die... so you're not in the mood for sex. But, ironically, orgasm helps cramps feel better.

you just missed me. Do you like the idea common in many pre-modern societies where women would go off to their special place for one week out of each month? I sure do. Sacred feminine space is divine.

You are on crack. Most women get the flow back after about 6-8 weeks after giving birth. I'm on week 9 now.
Interesting :)

My sister was breastfeeding until her daughter was saying "Other boob now" to switch sides. Sort of creepy, but she did speak very young...
Lets see now looking at what you wrote here:
PMS, Cramps, Bloating (mafia roles)
Gynocologist (cop)
Mydol (doc)
Tampon (RB)
Pantyliner (backup role)
Yeast infection (SK)
Monistat (Psychologist that heals SK)

mafia roles look good. Each one could have a weird kill ability.
PMS make you go crazy and moody. I could see PMS as more of a vig then mafia. You know I'm so mad I need to kill someone type PMS.
The townie types would have to be the things that make you feel better when on your period. cholote, ice cream, best friend support and ect.
These are good suggestions. There's so much I want to include, but I think they can definitely be included as means of killing or something to add ambiance.

I was thinking to allow guys to join as long as they agree to change their avatar sex for the duration of the game.

I want to call it WOMAFIA.

raj did that in freaktown and I made two babies :)

It can be a pain for the mod to find new players, but I think if I kept a replacement list from the beginning and informed the players they had a good chance of getting into the game, it could go smoothly.

Claus, thanks for the offer, but I want to mod it myself! I'm having fun with the flavor!

About the guys --

I would like it if guys want to play. I'm not going to keep them out. I was thinking to make them change their gender icon for the duration of the game though. Is that too mean?

Monthly necro.

I watched this show the other day about women who didn't know they were pregnant until they WERE IN LABOR.

Like this one woman got up in the middle of the night with "lower back pain" and was already 7 centimeters dialated and had the baby in the bathroom.

There seemed to be a lot of women having babies in the bathroom. I couldn't watch the one where the baby accidentally went into the toilet.

True story.

Well, I guess I continue to be synced with shaft.ed's wife.

The women in the tv show were pretty dumb. One woman thought she was going through menopause and that's why she didn't question her period being gone. Another woman thought she was just stressed out, so accepted that as the reason for no period. Plus they were all pretty heavy so I guess they didn't notice the weight gain or something?? I still think you would notice no matter what you weigh. And couldn't they feel the baby moving around in there?? What did they think was happening?

WOMAFIA MINI

Almost up on the mini queue.

I have FaerieLord and Farside as pre-in because they pm'ed me.

I think other people posted in thread that they wanted a pre-in.

If you still want to pre-in, pm me!

Now is your chance to live in the world of womafia, a magical place where tampons are served on a silver platter by the likes of Oman, where you can watch Patrick Swayze in "Dirty Dancing" over and over again, and we only use high-heeled shoes to murder each other. Heaven!

That's so stupid. Maybe every female should be required to get pregnant every time she ovulates, because if she doesn't she is wasting an egg. And that could maybe turn into a person one day! So every time she ovulates and doesn't have sex, she is killing future people!!!!!111

And what about all the eggs that go unused? They must be cultivated and... oh wait, never mind, that would be messing in "God's Domain".

Also, Shaft.ed, the chart in that article about types of contraception use was interesting, if only to make my wonder whether vasectomy counts after the initial investment as use.
I was more curious why they included "withdrawl" as a form of contraception.
That made me lol.

Me and my friends sometimes say "I'm celebrating" meaning "I have my period." You know, from that horrible phrase "Celebrating your womanhood."

It always makes me laugh and think of having a period party and throwing confetti and tampons in the air.

Sorry, Amrun. That is horrible. :( But what is more horrible is that doctors don't seem to care. I think that if being on birth control helps, you should definitely sort that out so that you can get back on that. And I'd encourage you to see some more doctors, even though it is a huge hassle, and make sure everything they do for you is covered so you don't get stuck with bills. The state of medicine these days is that you really have to advocate for yourself and make doctors care.

Flay asked about endometriosis. Also have they thought about polycystic ovarian syndrome?

So I got a free massage on the third day of my period. It was wonderful and cramp-relieving. Then I went into the steam room for five minutes and started to feel woozy, so I went out. I showered and went back to my room and walking up a flight of stairs made my heart pound and I thought I was going to throw up and/or faint. I felt SO ill. So I laid down for like an hour and a half and it got progressively better.

I *think* my blood pressure was low from the massage and then the steam and possibly my period?

I have heard that if/when your flow is heavy you just empty more often (and normal is every 12hours or so they say). Apparently you get to know how it feels when full. (Again, or so they say.)

Apparently when out in public you just dump blood in toilet and then wipe cup with paper towel and put it back in. Then wash it when you get home.

These are the instructions, but I have no idea how easily it works in real practice.

Nuwen, I used to be on nuvaring too. You can take it out during sex. That's what I always did. Amrun said you can take it out for two hours. I thought it was three. Anyway... we were never having sex for that long anyway so, lol.

Plenty of people leave it in too, but my boyfriend was large, and we both could feel it. I actually didn't love nuvaring, but almost everyone else I've ever talked to loves it. I just started ortho tri cyclen, and so far feel really good on it with no side-effects. So it's possible that I am just weird.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen update.

Three more active pills left in first pack. I had pretty bad nausea the end of the first week that lasted for about 5 days. Then it went away and I have felt completely normal since. I'm hoping that next month I won't even have the nausea. But yeah, for me, this seems like a good one, and does kind of demonstrate what doctors say about everybody being different. So if you don't feel well on one pill (or ring or patch) after a few months, consider changing.

Also, I set an alarm on my phone to go off at 9 p.m. every night to remind me to take the pill. Works like a charm and I never think about it. It's not annoying to me to have to take the pill every day because I actually don't have to remember -- my phone does.

Haylen, I don't really know when it's full except if I feel it leaking -- ie wetness. Apparently some people can tell when it is full but I don't know how unless it's because like me they feel leaking. I think mostly you just get to know about how long it takes you to fill the cup. Like on the first day or two i think i would need to empty around 4 hours. On lighter days I could go 6-8 hours. I just empty it whenever I pee since I'm new to it and want to see how full it is.

Noraaa, i think they usually advise you to stay on a bc pill for 3-4 months since most side-effects will go away. But l'd personally try to switch to another form of pill. They all have different recipes, and some will bother you while others don't. I was miserable on nuvaring which is supposed to have low dose of hormones, and i feel great on ortho tri cyclen which has high dose. The ingredients and formulation can definitely bother some people more than others.

I use the diva cup and I can tell you lots.

First of all, people who are military or hiking really like the product, so it is more than doable for you.

Second, using it in public washrooms. I do it all the time. This is what you do: wash your hands before going in the stall, dump blood in the toilet, wipe it out with some toilet paper if you want (or don't, it's not crucial), and put that bad boy back in. Clean it when you get home. You need to use non-scented, non-antibacterial soap. The silicon itsrlf is antibacterial.

Using it camping, you can probably do much the same thing. Wash it out every time you empty or every other time. Just make sure your hands are clean each time.

As far as leakage goes, it really all depends on you getting a cup that fits you correctly. I actually still have some leakage sometimes and i think it's because my cup is too long. I use the diva cup and it's the biggest and longest. All kinds of things influence which type of cup you buy. Most important are how heavy your flow is (heavy means you need bigger cup), and how deep or shallow your cervix is (shallow means you need a shorter cup. There is a whole lot of info on livejournal, search for menstrual cup. Just give it your best guess after reading up and give it a try.

It's a little difficult in the beginning. You get a lot better at inserting and removing after a few days. You also get to know about how long you can go between stops to empty. Once you get the hang of it, it is much easier than pads or tampons, imo. I haven't bought any tampons or pads in about 6 months, i think. Never carry them with me. It's awesome.

Oh and in that pic you posted, the soft one in front is a disposable kind. I think it's the Instead softcup. I believe you throw those away after each use or each day, which seems to defeat the purpose of using a menstrual cup. Don't worry, all the other cups are made of squishy silicon and are very comfortable. They don't hurt or anything.

Also depending on your flow you can go up to 12 hours between emptying the cup. You can pee with it in without issue. So it's not like you'd have to be stopping to wash your diva cup all the time while hiking. I'd probably wash it twiice every day for safety but then just dump it and put it back if i had to empty more than that. I think i'd bring some antibacterial wipes for keeping hands clean.

Also i did buy the DivaWash soap they sell for my cup. I felt like it was a bit dumb to buy soap specifically for my cup but i needed something unscented and not antibacterial and who the fuck has that. So i bought it and i really like it. One bottle will prob last me years so it's not a bad investment.

Esurio, different pills are good for different people. So if you start one and the side effects are really bad, change the type and you prob feel lots better. I mean, most people will have some side effects at the beginning but they should be tolerable and will likely disappear in 3-4 months. I'm deliriously happy on Ortho tri cyclen. I had some side effects in the beginning but they weren't very bad and went away. I feel totally normal now except for lighter and predictable period.

I threw up about an hour and a half after taking my pill, so I took the next day's pill about an hour after that.

I think that covers me, right?

I had some nausea when i started pills. With me it was worst the first week and got better as the month went on. Second month there was almost no nausea and third month none. Most side effects from BC are supposed to go away after a few months, so if it's not too bad just stick it out. If it's really bad, ask your doctor to switch your pills.

I have been stuck between hoping I get my period, worried it won't come, and feeling oddly content if I accidentally got pregnant. I was even using online due date calculators...

But my period is starting, which is a good thing.

Giving birth creeps me out; being pregnant does not. I really want to be pregnant.

But being a foster or adoptive parent is something really amazing to do.

You could always have a c-section? Or is it the process of a living thing exiting your body...for lack of a better way to say it, lol.

Giving birth didn't freak me out until Reilly came. It was a bit different because my water hadn't broken until I started pushing...and then it was GROSS. It broke all over the nurses legs (like you could actually hear it splatter because of the pressure). Glork was totally weirded out, and it kind of surprised quadz. And then you have to "pass" the placenta, too, which is still connected to the umbilical cord. You basically have to just sit there with this thing hanging out of your bajingo until you have another contraction to push the rest out. :shifty:

I felt bad for both of them since none of us were really prepared for any of it. :?

Anyway, so now I'm like...FUCK THAT'S REALLY WHAT HAPPENS EW.

The grossness is a bit concerning, but I'm not really very squeamish in general.

I think I'm more scared of the pain and don't like the idea of destroying my vagina. I mean... i know women do it all the time and their vaginas continue to function, but some women tear or need to be cut and i have a friend who healed wrong from that and she needed to get an operation later to fix it. Not the end of the world, kids are definitely worth it but still... not looking forward to it.

And I have had a kidney stone and they say the pain of a kidney stone is worse than labor, and I guess I'll just get an epidural anyway. But i just remember how bad the pain was from the kidney stone... i was throwing up repeatedly from pain. So facing anything close to that is scary to me. Not going to stop me, but it does concern me.

I know people who have had home births and their kids are fine and they say it was a great experience. But I do worry about complications. I know they say they take you to the hospital at any sign of danger... but like, things go wrong even in a hospital so how much worse is it if it takes you a bit to even get there?

My sister had her second in a midwife center that was next to a hospital. So I guess something like that could be a good compromise.

I disagree. Doctors have different opinions. You have to talk with your own doctor, do your own research if possible, and make an informed decision, not blindly do what your doctor recommends.

I think it's funny when the woman makes her husband get in the bath with her when she gives birth. I imagine it's kinda gross with all the blood and stuff coming out her vaginaand into the water. But hey, it's his wife and baby's blood and shit so he better get used to it I guess.

I think the point is that the failure rate for the rhythm method is significantly higher than every other method.

Rhythm method is about 75% effective.

Condoms are 98% effective.
Pills are over 99%
Tubal ligation and vasectomy are even higher.

That's a pretty big difference. That's why the rhythm method is actually a poor choice for preventing pregnancy when such better options exist.

Of course there is always a chance of getting pregnant with anything but abstinence. But there is a huge difference in the risk you are taking using rhythm vs. Anything else.

Sapo, I know exactly how you feel. I felt exactly the same way after I had an abnormal pap. It really did effect how I felt about myself. A lot of people said things that helped me though, and you were one of them-- you told me that something like 2/3 of people or over 2/3 of people will have hpv at some point in their lives. And condoms don't protect you. So basically everyone has it but most people don't find out because their body fights off the virus. So if you're at all sexually active there is a good chance you've been exposed. That's why every woman gets a pap smear. So, I know it's easy to feel like you're different and dirty, but really, you're no different than everyone else.

I told hohum before we met, and he didn't care. At all. He said that he hoped I'd be the last person he ever slept with so it didn't matter.

Well, I think you should tell people in the future, but torturing yourself about the past won't help anyone. It's a ubiquitous thing and one that doesn't harm most people, but if you can tell the people who may be exposed it would be a good thing. Although, there is nothing they can do about it anyway, and there isn't even a test for men to know if they have it.

I know what you mean about the diet thing too. I was drinking green tea like it was my job for the month before I had my colposcopy. And other things too, but I really drank a lot of green tea.

I just realized my copay on my birth control is actually the entire cost of the birth control. Which I guess means it isn't covered, which is lame. I take the generic version so it's only $9/month, so it's fine. But the concept is sort of fucked up.

Yeah I have copay on scripts too.

Like on my receipt it tells me what the cost of the prescription is, and then it tells me what my copay is, so what portion of that I have to pay. Usually my copay on prescriptions is pretty low, like I don't end up paying much. But it kind of bothers me that I don't get a reduction on birth control.

I'm on generic ortho-tr-cyclen which is old as the hills so that's why it's only $9. When I was on nuvaring, I think it was $40 or more.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised.

I'm supposed to get made full-time at my job in the next six months so I'll get the state healthcare plan. I wonder if that will be better or worse. The cool part is I'll only have to pay $71/mo out of my paycheck though. Currently, I pay $274/mo and I don't really have dental or eye -- like I only have to pay copay on eye exams but i have to pay all of my contact or lens costs and dental I get cleanings but nothing else. I can't wait until I get full dental. It's kind of pathetic what sort of things become exciting as you get older...

I was somewhat queasy for the first few months, but really only the first week of those months. It went away by the fourth month, I believe.

I have the same ingrown hair problem as you, Sapo.

I got laser hair removal, but i think I only did it like four times instead of 5-7 they recommend. The hair has been noticably reduced but not gone. I'm not sure if i want to continue with laser because it hurts like a bitch. Since there's less hair, I do seem to get less ingrown when I do shave.

I've been letting it grow though... hohum is in Africa anyway...

Sapo, my acne got way worse in my twenties (never a big problem in my teens). I had cystic acne that nothing could tame. Went on accutane for a few months but had to stop before the course was up because my liver showed signs of distress. The acne got somewhat better after, but it really didn't cure me. In the last year or so I have been on ortho tri cyclen and using the clinique acne line. It's a lot better. Not perfect but pretty good. I think it's mostly due to ortho obviously, but the clinique acne line is really good and I do notice a difference if I skip a step one night.

I am bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeding.

So, it's been a year with the diva cup, and I noticed this morning that it has little hairline cracks along the rim, which means it needs to be replaced. They do say they only last a year, and I thought "nah, it'll last longer." Nope. Lasts a year. I'm actually thinking to order a different brand online because I think mine is a bit long for me, and some brands are made shorter. I like the diva because you can get it at whole foods. But I think I might order a lunette http://www.amazon.com/Lunette-Menstrual ... _sbs_hpc_7

It's some sort of silicone, but they must be made of different stuff.

It is sort of annoying that it only lasts a year and moon cup lasts 10. Biggest thing diva cup has going for it is being in every whole foods.

Now I wonder how long lunette is supposed to last...

I got some yesterday that were on a sale at the grocery store. Buy one bottle, get one bottle free. It was like $14, and will last for four months, which i guess is pretty good, but I'll look at target too -- good idea Singer! I would really like to feel less tired. :) I'm a little worried about vitiamin A because I think i'm sensitive to it, and the vitamins have 50% daily value. But, I dunno. I'll try it and see how I feel.

I was on line at the grocery store, buying only prenatal vitamins, and somebody from work tapped me on the back and struck up a conversation. And I'm like "hello, and here are my prenatal vitamins." Was kinda funny...

I like to take 2 (or 4 if I feel like I'm dying) Advil, drink a diet coke and eat chocolate (like 5 Hershey kisses will do it but you can have more if you want). The caffeine gets the Advil into your body faster.

Also, I am currently taking my new lunette menstrual cup on her maiden voyage. It is much stiffer than the diva, meaning it popped open immediately after I put it in. I think this might work better than diva cup.

So, this new menstrual cup is perfect.

I had some leaking with the diva cup, perhaps because my cervix is low during my period, or because the diva cup is somewhat squishy (strong pelvic muscles need a harder cup). The lunette that got is shorter and stiffer, and I have no leaks! Yays!

So I have to say that getting the right cup by size and hardness really matters.

I go like 8-12 hours but my period is much lighter since being on the pill.

I don't think it would be a pain to dump more frequently though. And if I'm not in a private bathroom I just dump theblood in the toilet and wipe off the cup aand put it back in.

Oh! I had a diva cup conversation with my coworkers. One woman told another woman that a diva cup was "like an old rolled up condom you put in your vagina to catch blood." Lol. I told them it wasn't like that and I use one and like it. So now i am the weird menstrual cup girl in real life too. \o/
