The opening scenes with Tyrion just reinforced how well I think Peter Dinklage captures him, and most of the casting is, imo, fairly spot on still.

Tyrion is fucking awesome, and I love all the little things about him. I also think Jaime's arrogance despite being caught was pretty good. Joffrey plays the bastard so well, and Cersei is brilliant as power-bitch.

I really think Sansa is one of the most interesting characters, precisely because she was so PURPOSEFULLY BORING in the beginning. She was the quintessential noble maiden.

Her character goes through the most drastic change in the series, I think ... Honestly, I do.

Jamie's is more drastic, I guess, but I think a lot of Jamie's change had already happened and the reader is just clued in.


I agree with Reck that the Stannis scene was super duper confusing for anyone who hasn't read the books.

The Stannis scenes in general were a bit weird - it doesn't really explain who Davos was, it barely explains who Melisandre was/what she was doing, but I feel they captured Stannis' lack of personality or anything else fairly well.

Cersei was fantastic, she was properly unhinged.
Sansa was really good, as was Sandor and Tyrion.

The scene where Joffrey is trying to decide to leave to the Red Keep or not was really good, I felt quite sympathetic towards him as after all he is still just a boy, and the worry and fear he was feeling was really well conveyed.

Are we going to find out the motives of the Kingsguard who attacked Tyrion? That was completely out of the blue and doesn't seem to make sense in the context of a losing battle or impasse. If he was ordered to assassinate him, why do it in the middle of the battlefield at a time when every ally counts toward survival, even a dwarf with minimal combat experience or skills?

I rewatched Season 1 yesterday, in preparation for tonight, and it didn't seem as good as it did the first time. It was a good season, yeah, but it spent so long setting stuff up, it felt like it dragged. I enjoy it, but it isn't something you can rewatch over and over.

The episode was good - Tywin laying the law down in the Sept, and the Pod/Tyrion scenes were highlights, as was the last bit of Dany stood outside Mereen.

There were two episodes of the season left. They weren't going to have the Battle of King's Landing in the finale. This was expected/10.

Also, Dany's turn did not come out of nowhere. She has, in the space of this season, lost her closest advisor, Ser Friendzone, her boyfriend, another one of her dragons AND has discovered that she is not going to be loved like she was across the sea.

It was always going to end like this. She is the Mad Queen.

I thought it was actually pretty good ending given what they were working with the previous episodes/season.

had everything been identical up until the point when jon snow killed daenerys, but then drogon placed dany upon the throne before melting it and daenerys triumphantly emerged from the fire in a callback that we should have expected but of course did not and she slayed jon snow with a fury similar to what we saw with her destruction of the city but on a personal level, and then we were given aerial views of what was left of the city via our queen and drogon flying around, and then in the near future greyworm, the last of those who were loyal, executing the rest of the cast, dany looking on, i think it would have been a pretty good ending.
