I don’t necessarily think it is covid-19 but if it is it will have been my fault and the idea is torturing me.

The hospitals are weird ghost towns right now, limiting admissions and closing oncology wards etc. The doctors are antsy, bored, restless, asking me to drum them up some outpatients for telemedicine to keep their minds occupied because they can feel what’s coming. They’re downstaffing everywhere but that won’t last.

Damn Amrun. I'm so sorry.

I’m letting anxiety get the better of me right now, everything from “we saw an asymptomatic patient on Friday that we quarantined with symptoms on Monday that traveled to New York” to “I didn’t quarantine the Amazon box his slide came in for 24 hours” so my head is full of fuck right now. I have a sore throat too.

Even though his ears look fine to me, I’m praying it’s just an ear infection as I don’t keep an otoscope at home obviously.

He’s not coughing or even wheezing which is actually weird since he’s asthmatic and always wheezes when he’s sick so I’m probably just being anxious. I can’t help myself.

Love to you Amrun.

My ward is somewhat protected - we're surgical and they have closed other wards and decanted them to us, so we might be relatively normal a couple weeks longer than most. We have preemptively isolated a few coughs but they've come back negative. One guy came back negative, we de isolated him to isolate a potential case from another unit, now the doctors think it's a false neg due to symptoms and we've had to re isolate.

Isolating everyone with a temperature in a damned hospital isn't going to be possible much longer so there are difficult decisions coming. Like, if we run out of individual rooms (these are maybe 1/4 of our total beds) we have to send potential covids to be cohorted with other potential covids. But a lot of our patients have very significant underlying conditions in the lexicon of the popular media rn, and sending them there if they don't have it and exposing them to it will be putting their lives at greatly increased risk.

Mina & math:

Did either of you ever get your results?

Off topic: I did manage to get 3 n95 that fit me for 90 bucks. So it’s better than nothing I guess.

Knowing Americans, once the stimulus hits their paychecks, there's going to be a rash of people going out and buying stuff, which will mean an uptick in infections.

This, and people are actually taking cash out because they are afraid the banks will crash.

I hope your son feels better soon, Amrun. He's young, so if it is the coronavirus I have confidence he'll pull through, but that doesn't make it more pleasant for him.

No! ARGH!

But we're both feeling almost completely fine now, so the only thing it affects at this point is when we can leave our apartment.

nah, the last time the government issued stimulus checks in 2008, only about 25% of people spent them

the rest either saved it or used it to pay down debt. Which is smart, but not great for the economy.

Nah, Amazon, baby.

Last time a stimulus was issued, online shopping wasn't the order of the day. I'm interested in seeing if we do the same thing as last time. I'm going to argue to my wife we should blow it immediately.

I remember the economists and people in office had surprisedpikachuface.png when people used it to pay down debt the last time.

The money goes to a financial institution and stays there, rather than buying something and having that money re-enter the cycle of buying and selling.

It's the difference between the money being spent once and having it force-multiplied through commerce.
