I'll be taking whatever slot JD throws me into, as I'll be recording each show in advance (and therefore also hopefully have a backlog in case I'm not here for one week) and hohum is going to kindly host them for me. (It also means it can be repeated if need be to fill a hole in the schedule)
As for what I'm doing...
Mafia Scum's Desert Island Discs.
I'm sure I don't need to explain what Desert Island Discs are to anyone. But the long and short of it is this needs you guys as much as me. Anyone who wants their choices on the show simply PM me 10 songs (just the artist and song will do, although feel free to direct me to youtube videos of the songs if you feel like being kind souls and making my job easier) and your reasons as to why you would take those specific songs.

I have to stop broadcasting to switch from pulling audio from Songbird to pulling audio from my mic, then stop again to switch to Skype, then stop again to... well, you get it.
With the Skype thing, could you not record that in advance so you just need to play the recording straight through? Then you only need to work out how to switch from audio of Songbird to your mic (or just record the whole thing in advance like me). Has the added bonus that you don't require the person be around in the middle of your show if they normally wouldn't be able to.

If you're able to record an MP3 of the show (download Audacity if you're on windows (not sure about Mac) you can record direct into that with a microphone, and put any music in that you wish to include), if you ask hohum nicely I'm sure he'll kindly set it up to run at the appropriate time like he's doing for me.

No mobile phone or MP3 player that allows recording into it? If you're recording in advance you could do it that way. It's how I did the Desert Island Discs thing on another forum. Just record into my MP3 player and edit it in on the computer. Not perfect quality but it did the job.

Unfortunately your show runs at gone midnight my time. Meaning if I'm not asleep, I'm guarenteed to be talking that way. I may also wind up spending the weekend at my Mum's yet. So it's likely best not, thanks for the offer though.

By page 5 of that I spotted two artists that will be on the first Desert Island Discs. One of which is the actual song.
No I wont say which, you'll have to listen to find out.

It depends on the length of the songs really. If all ten songs fit into the hour then they get played. If someone picks ten songs at about ten minutes each, I'll have to go with 5-6 of them instead. Of course I'll state what the reasons for picking the songs were, and perhaps comment on them myself depending on how much time is free/how much the person wrote for their reasons.

Apologies for the Skype noises. I have no clue where they're coming from as I recorded it solely in Audacity, with no Skype running. My guess is it's channelling from Hohum's computer somehow.

I think it's a bit of both to be honest. I tend to type like I would talk, but I also talk in a way to deliberately exaggerate for the sake of it (9 times out of 10 if I'm ranting about something, it's tongue in cheek). So it's done for comedy "because" I actually sound like that I suppose.

Apologies for the edited version... I hadn't heard the song before so didn't know there even was an edited version. Gimmie a heads up if there's an edited version of your song out there when sending lists, just so I can avoid it if I have to find it.

aaaaaand thar she blows, Desert Island Discs show 1 wrapped up. On listening I think the Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson song was perhaps the wrong choice for the debut show. Bit slow and bland compared to the previous songs. But otherwise I was happy with how it went. Thanks Nexus for your 10 picks. Next week we'll have... Nicodemus!

Well, the only reason I'm able to post a copy up after the broadcast is because I pre-record my shows in advance, so it's as simple as uploading the same MP3 to a seperate host after. If JD can record the stream it's all good, if not then it wont be. Though I would like to be able to download it later on. Such as today, I've missed a fair sized chunk of the show, and am yet to listen to the songs and vote, I'll wait to listen to all of the songs in one go now. If I could download the show I could just bung that on later, and pause if I have to.

Buggered if I know. I do know this will be the only time it gets played on the Desert island Discs show (that goes for anyone sending future submissions in, so tough bollocks if you send it in from now on).

I was going to mention it on the show, but it made me sound worse than normal, so I cut it out entirely, but my one and only thought when I first heard that track when finding it for the show was "Hey, Lawler's theme, awesome".

Okay, any version of Freebird, what with the overplaying, and the fact it's 10 minutes long, I'm making that the first, and only, time for it. Purely because I can turn listeners off by talking bollocks as it is, without playing the same long track every few weeks .
While I'm at it, anyone who missed the show, or wants to hear all of it, can go here and either play it in browser, or download it for listening at a later date - http://www.4shared.com/audio/g2jvZ9kv/D ... sode_.html

Got a recording of this one? I missed it.
Check my sig, there's a link to a DID wiki page and each show has links to download them (or listen to them through the online player, whatever's your poison).

Another just so you know.
I'll be streaming the Desert Island Discs from my own computer tonight. All being well it will work fine. If it doesn't... well you can all bitch at me for being a useless tit (or at least more of a useless tit than usual)

All being well we go live (well, I hit play on Winamp and ignore it as it plays the pre-made show) in a couple of minutes... if it all fucks up, let me know. Hell, if it goes right, let me know then too just so I know either way. For all I know no bugger was listening to begin with.

Anyone successfully surviving this show deserves a medal. I was hoping that I could either bung it to HoHum, or get out of playing it live entirely this week, so I wouldn't have to listen to it myself... bugger.

I used to be nervous and shy with everything. Then I began refereeing wrestling shows. You can't be nervous when you're in front of 300 people and the entire show pretty much relies on you doing your job right. So now I'm at the stage where I just go "fuck it" and get on with stuff.
Plus this is easier than when I was asked to ring announce a show 2 minutes before the first match was due to go out. At least I have some preparation here.

Xalxe wrote:WHY SHOULD I HATE THIS SONG
IT'S FUNKY
It's bloody awful.
I also love it and I haven't the faintest idea why. It even scored points in a song contest, and I have no clue why there either.
Even the people who made it had no faith in it because they could give it free advertising space on the Robot Wars TV show and chose not to outside of a single play (which I think they cut off half way through as well). It never even got into the top 40
And yeah CDB, that's pretty much why I stuck this in here. No point putting anything in people might find interesting if they've already switched off.

Right... now I don't have to listen to an hour (well almost, Come Sail With Me was a temporary reprieve, though I'm not a huge fan of that either, I always think of that South Park version) of god-awful music. I'll return to WWE Raw.

You're getting me after about a dozen re-records. Most people groan at my jokes. You might find out if/when I do some live shows. But thanks for the compliment, at least it means the pre-recorded shows are going well. We'll see how fast it heads downhill on live shows later down the line.
And Parama, the upcoming shows are:
March 22 - Shaft.ed
March 29 - Wrestlemania Special (Though this might shift over if I start doing a live show in addition to this one by then).
April 5 - Parama
April 12 - CDB
April 19 - Prana (This may well shift as it's more a filler show if I have nothing left to go, although I may choose to run it anyway as I have other filler shows set up too).
Anyone not listed that's sent me some info I'm possibly still waiting on additional stuff.

We're still waiting on JD to add the additional 20 songs from each DJ that's sent him some. That will help things (as long as enough DJs have sent in stuff of course).

Also, yay to having at least one listener. I don't have the awesome (or at least, much better than my) set up where I can see how many are tuned in. I figured I was broadcasting to no bugger.
And I think it was done as a charity single, but it could easily be what you said as well.

I'm not sure if I should take the accent thing as an insult or not . But I'm the same, I like to tune in when I can. Though too often lately I've been sorting stuff out for the Desert Island Discs stuff, or been busy elsewhere so haven't been able to.
Also, hooray for my computer trying to fuck up constantly. Lesson for the future. Reboot prior to running a show.

It would appear that streaming direct is much, much easier than recording in advance. So I may well start doing that for the Desert Island Discs from now on too. We'll see.

I officially have two shows now. Desert Island Discs on Tuesday nights, and PranaDevil's Bollocks on Thursday nights, whoo! Officially debuting tonight, but those tuned in last night heard the pilot run anyway.
