Gradually? Rob never stood a chance, the Starks lost as soon as Robert Baratheon died.
Also I think the whole moral of the Starks fucking up over and over again was "shoulda listened to Catelyn."

If he'd been smarter with the information, it would've worked out much better. I bet if he'd told Cat at any point, she'd tell him to do the right thing, then he wouldn't and end up getting killed anyway.

The conversations between Tywin and Tyrion and between Roose Bolton and Walder Frey were my favorite parts of the episode. Also I liked how they revealed who Theon's torturer is. I wouldn't have guessed.

yeah I think best episode of the season easily.
Stannis' last two appearances have been playing to the strengths and differences of the two advisors on his side
with Tywin's speech to Tommen about how wisdom is essentially knowing when to really on the people who want to see you do well (assuming Melisandre isn't playing him)
and also Tywin's speech about how even Tywin Lannister is afraid of the Iron Bank
who are now backing Stannis to an extent I don't know yet but will obviously be helpful
and with Theon set to betray his family because how badly Ramsay has broken him
which will probably result in the death of Balon Greyjoy
I'm looking forward to Stannis' rise to power again. He does have the best claim to the throne, I'm really on his side so it's nice for me at least that so many things are pointing towards his success.

The episode clearly ended with them wanting us to believe that the mountain had survived, regardless of how heavily injured he is. Your post didn't indicate that you would be spoiling stuff about what will happen in the future. I don't read that stuff but I do read things about what happened differently in the books, provided that it does not speak of future events. Your post was unclear about that.
Arya cracking was awesome. The commune watched together and all of us cracked up as soon as Arya started laughing, it was great.
That whole scene was great, I was laughing the whole time. Nice bit of comic relief before all the horror. I hope she still gets to see Sansa though! I know she probably won't but it's kind of becoming a sick joke how many times she's gotten SO CLOSE to reuniting with family and then not. Maybe that's another reason her laughing can be interpreted. Not laughing at the hound's misfortune but at her own (it'd be kinda meta since she doesn't know Sansa is there).

So were we supposed to understand WHY exactly Stannis shows up? That seems like a random place for him to be. Idk if it was explained or will be explained. Idk if this is possible to discuss without getting into book spoilers (if that is the case please don't)

At the beginning of the episode when they are like "Previously on Game of Thrones", one of the scenes was the with-fire-woman looking into the fire and telling Stannis he is needed North beyond the wall and must go there.
Considering how much he has been following her advice, makes sense he would show up, I guess.
Oh I didn't even realize the show had a "previously", I always download it and I guess whoever uploads cuts it out

I think if spoiled it's easy to dismiss many things as "being obvious"). It's shocking because very few shows will kill their "main character", off. It's just about as simple as that, I think.
I didn't know and I really didn't like the show for a while after cuz it felt so aimless without being centered around a traditional main. I didn't really get interested in the show again until the second half of season three.

Can you guys keep the book stuff to a minimum? There's another thread for that, this is the show thread. I feel like anyone who doesn't read the books (me) just feels cut out from the conversation

I usually don't either but it just seemed like more and more of the conversation was starting to take place in book spoilers that I'm not reading.
Anyway, I was excited to see Alexander Siddig as Oberyn Martell's dad. I loved him in Syriana

Oh yeah, my bad. I get the feeling that Arya and Sansa are both gonna be going through big transformations, maybe Sansa won't make it to her destination but yeah I'm curious how her and Arya will continue to be relevant. I don't want them to start seeming as far removed as Danaerys

I guess all of the Stark kids (except Rickon? Where's Rickon?) are about to undergo periods of metamorphosis. Although I don't know if Sansa's new hair color implies that she has transformed already or if she still has more ahead of her

it's amazing that this series has remained appealing when so many people in it have been so completely irrelevant to each other for so long.
I don't think Sansa's moved to the dark side... Petyr Baelish isn't explicitly evil at all. I think it was more that she passed through a phase of maturation.

Besides the show's problems with handling rape or insensitively using it as a means of character progression, I think Sansa's story arc is just wonky in general right now. The hair color made it seem like she'd have some kinda new beginning when she went black but literally nothing came of it and she's still just a victim. Unless she puts a knife through Theon and Ramsay or something in the next two episodes it will seem like it was all a waste of time. She did pick a potential weapon up, didn't she?

I had predicted Margaery would die and she didn't even show up -_- bah. Also I was hoping Dany would die. Oh well. I'm gonna go watch the Adventure Time season finale now, it's probably better.
