They already linked to this site.

I have always been wary of doing this, because they get a large number of trolls and other idiots on that site.

You've gotta admit though that it'd be really cool having an evil group big enough to populate a mafia game on it's own. Can you imagine a 40 player endgame? The thread would be 4-5 pages long just with confirmations. This is beginning to sound like those tall tales about people like Paul Bunyan.

The bigger the game, the worse the inactivity.

If there's 40 players left, how would that be an endgame?

With 100 players, you could have 20 mafia. If none of them had been lynched yet, there would be a mafia majority when it got past 40 players left.

With a 10 man game and 2 mafia the towns chances are good. With a 100 man game with 20 mafiathe town's chances are very slim.

If there was a way to both ensure that everyone would actually play the damn game they signed up for (insert frustration re: Mafia 14 here) ~and~ it were possible to keep up with a game with that much posting, I think it'd be a lot of fun and a heck of a challenge.

I wouldn't want to be the SK in a game like that, though...

I've heard the term endgame used in a lot of ways, and I'm sure I've heard it used in reference to the last night of a game, which can come very early if no mafs are dead.

Watch the game here:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/sho ... did=210276

I really like the roleplaying thing they'g got going. I think there should be more of that here, though not in theme games if it will give away the character you have of course...

---

I'd use the term "endgame" to mean "the game's almost over -
and the town knows it
" A day with 40 players might have only one mafia member left, but there's no way the town's going to do a mass roleclaim to win the game immediately. Similarly, they're not going to play in "lynch-or-lose" mode (unless there really are 20 mafia around, that is).

The roleplaying thing would be interesting in a mini or something, but I found it a bit on the confusing side reading their Day 1. But maybe I just need to get used to reading it.

I am a RP'er from way back, and I've participated in many RPGs in the past with enthusiasm... but what they're doing in that game detracts too much from the logic of the game, instead placing lots of emphasis on telling a story. To be blunt, I found that thread extremely unreadable. More power to 'em for having fun with it, but I don't think I'd enjoy trying to play Mafia like that. Now, if anyone wants to see a RPG get started up on here, that'd be just fine, and I'll be the first one to sign up to play (or mod, for that matter). 8)
