Fair warning, we move slow. It'll take about a week for your game to start and it'll take about a month (maybe two) for it to finish.

My word usage was deliberate. We move slow. I meant slow not as an adverb, but as an adjective. As three of its definitions:
    • moving or operating, or designed to do so, only at a low speed; not quick or fast. ("their slow walk home")
    • taking a long time to perform a specified action. ("she was a slow reader")
    • lasting or taking a long time. ("a slow process")
  1. not prompt to understand, think, or learn. ("he's so slow, so unimaginative")
  2. uneventful and rather dull. ("a slow and mostly aimless narrative")
All apply.

An adjective is supposed to modify a noun, what noun are you modifying...?

Right but if you wanted to modify “we” wouldn’t it be “We are slow”?

I’m not normally this anal about grammar but????

We are slow isn't specific to the action and implies universal slowness.

This conversation does not belong in this thread amd it was slightly dickish of me to make that correction. I apologize

I stand by it because, as Kat said, there is no noun to modify unless the sentence gets a full revamp!

In the current structure, "slow" must serve as a noun. But we play Mafia, not Slow, so it is still incorrect.

If we were going for proper grammar rather than more deliberate-Engrish (e.g. "Me work well"; "I r dum"; "This be stupid"), then sure. But I wasn't going for proper grammar, I was going for that type of statement; We Move Slow.

You used
slow
as an adverb to modify the verb
move
. It's nonstandard but fine.

Less linguistic prescriptivism, more welcoming newbies!

Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker and finally got around to making an account while I'm bored at work. Don't know if my schedule is free enough to play but I'm excited to participate in the community!

Well.

At least
in theory
.

Mafiascum games are made for people who work, in that they are played over the course of weeks/months rather than hours/days. So you can take your time playing.

It might also interest you to look at Geriatric Games--their rules might be a bit intimidating in theory on paper, but the idea behind them is to prevent players from coming home to find their game has 20 new pages to read. If you think you can't read 20 new pages with your schedule when playing, then trying a Geriatric Game might be worth a try.

Also, Newbie games tend to move slower than most queues, so there's that. You can play a few games there to get acclimated before moving on to elsewhere. <3

Greetings to you all. I'm MagikHorse, a fan of so many things that it's honestly starting to pile up. As it is, I was looking up Mafia roles and wandered here from the wiki before saying "hey, I'd really like to do this again". I tend to be awkward at times, but I aim to be friendly and loyal above all. If I misstep, I will do whatever I can to patch things up, even if it takes months to do.

I have played Mafia once via another forum probably about a year ago (although it has sadly gotten erased due to a severe forums error there that wiped most of the threads clean out), which was a lot faster than games here seem to be. With 48 hour days and 24 hour nights, i ended up leading our 3 man Scumteam to victory almost entirely on my back as a Tracker. Sometimes your scumbuddies are just way too quiet to the point where they're hardly active in the scumdoc, and it takes some prodding to get them rolling you know? Town never thought the first-timer would be their undoing or the backbone of the scumteam.

I work as a label slapper, building and packing boxes before sending them out the door. It's not as consistent hour-wise as I'd like though, and I'm considering trying to find a job with more consistent hours. In my spare time, I'm staff on a Garry's Mod server, keeping the peace and enforcing the rules as people enjoy themselves.

Beyond that I'm here to play Mafia and join in on the activities, and I hope I'll make a few friends along the way too.

Well enjoy your time here. Don't worry though everyone has felt like they've had to carry their teammates to wins before. But one time it might be your scum buddy riding the game out.

The longer times for days and night can be a bit weird at first. But the newbie queue does a great job of making it an easy transition. I'm sure you will love it here and have a great time playing.

There are some great non mafia topic discussions as well if you feel like joining in the community a little bit.

But mostly, just have fun, it can take a couple of days for a game to start so have a look around, read a little bit and you will definitely make friends on the forum.

Hey what's up everyone.
I'm Harambey180, lives: on Earth, age: under 18 right now but that will change.
First heard about the Mafia game on another forum where they have such games, then played some ToS before looking here.

Had some struggles in a mafia game on that other forum, but those people just have awkward playstyles.
OK now let's have some fun with this site :D

You will find the biggest thing here as opposed to ToS is that people rely much more on day play then on reading in to and following the night actions.

It can seem a bit weird at first but can lead to some really fun debates and interactions.

I've seen you around the discussion forums so I think you'll be fine.

Enjoy yourself

Welcome, is the "180" related to darts by any chance?

Yup it is, 180 is the highest score to get in darts, so it does make sense it's referring to darts :D
