I want to do a contest for anime. Like get people to watch the series and then rate it and the one with the highest wins :D Remember spoiler tags or Rena will rip out your soul.

I'd love to be involved in an contest regarding watching animes and rating it.

My all-time favorite anime is Dragon Ball, as you can see. Yu Yu Hakusho is a close second.

I started watching the FLCL ova and I'm not sure if I'm missing the plot or if its just a showcase of animation and randomness. It's interesting, I guess.

I feel like I should post in this thread...

Suzumiya Haruhi (though light novels > anime)
Serial Experiments Lain
Higurashi
Full Metal Panic!
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Kara no Kyoukai

Manga section:
Mahou Sensei Negima! (THERE IS NO NEGIMA ANIME)
The World God Only Knows (need to watch the anime version)
Mirai Nikki

There's probably more, especially since I've been watching a few stray series lately. (How had I not watched Higurashi earlier?)

Oh, wow, how could I forget Suzumiya Haruhi (Well, the first season anyway). But, as Tar says, the light novels are better.

What second season? There's the 2006 TV series and the Disappearance movie... and a Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody OVA, as I recall, but the art department was slacking on that for some reason. Must have been K-On hangover.

A pity really, there's some good short stories that they could animate. Endless Eight comes to mind - a by-the-book last loop version would be nice, or they could pull a Window of Opportunity and show us some of the different stuff that Yuki referred to being done in previous loops. Just as long as they don't just try to show a bunch of loops with the same events. That would be stupid and boring.

Okay. Maybe this this the right thread for this.

My wife & I are watching through Death Note for the first time. About halfway through the series, Light gives up the death note and the story changes to Light & L vs. Yoshiba Corporation. The mostly generic cop characters are quickly phased out in favor of a colorful thief and a flashy con man. But more than the change in tone & intimacy, there's a noticable downgrade in writing, pacing, artwork, sound..

What the fuck happened?

(about 3/4 of the way through the series)

It'd be good to pretend the 2nd season didn't exist.

Seriously.

Such an underrated/underappreciated anime. I've been watching C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control recently and I keep meaning to check out Dragon Ball Kai to see if my memories of that show being sweet as fuck as a kid are just rose-tinted or not. And if we can expand this to manga: Junji Ito. 'nuff said.

Just like the Negima animes, the evidence of the second season's existence is outweighed by the clear impossibility that such awesome source material could have such a bad adaptation (except Sighs, suckiness of a Sighs adaptation is just expected). So I've been pulling an xkcd on them.

I was big in to anime when I was younger (hence the weaboo username). Largely grown tired of it, but...

HunterXHunter
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Shaman King
Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star

are all still awesome. Some others are pretty silly with a more critical eye but still win on nostalgia points (I'm looking at you Detective Conan).

(actually outlaw star is also pretty goddamn stupid but shut up it's awesome)

Baccano! is amazing and I'm trying to get Faraday to watch it.

I need to actually watch Cowboy Bebop, I've seen more than half the episodes but not in any coherent order.

No one here like the original FMA??? :/

Also Death Note anime is just odd. Especially the foot fetish scene.

I liked the original.

I think I would've liked it better if Dante was younger.

I think at least.

Recently watched Shuffle!

Wasn't that good, got fair heavy in the last few episodes and managed to keep an unbelievable story believable fairly well. I enjoyed watching it at least.
