Colored Scrollbars

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Wed May 29, 2002 3:56 pm

Would anyone be terribly offended if I removed the colored scrollbars. The blue scrollbar in the subSilver theme doesn't have enough contrast between the handle and the rest of it for me to be able to tell the two apart. It drives me nuts trying to find the thing. In fact, it just plain makes my eyes hurt because I strain them trying to see the stupid thing, despite the fact that no matter how much straining I do it's not going to change the way I see the colors.

On second though, maybe I should just create a copy of the subSilver theme and call it "Q's theme that fixes those stupid scrollbars". Unless, of course, enough people agree with me that the lack of contrast is maddening.

People actually use scrollbars?

I can't see colored scrollbars in my browser, anyway. So I say: kill away!

If I had IE 5.5 or above, I might have an opinion, but I just have IE 5, so I don't see the colored bar.

would a white one really stand out much more? maybe you should use a darker one... but incidentlt, it happens to be the same color used with the silver theme in windows xp- so all my scroll bars look like that- just with black arrows rather than blue ones...
maybe you should make them this blue.. it's perky, and happy, and fun!!!

Konqueror displays them also. I didn't like the scrollbars in XP either.

Maybe I should create an option in Konqueror's config to allow the user to turn off the colored scrollbar. Even when I can see them ok, I still think they're annoying.

If I was using IE, I'd be very much for removing them, as those things are usually pretty ugly and annoying. I
like
my scrollbars grey and low profile - they're not the part of the browser I want to look at, so why make them colourful, so as to attract the eye? That's more of a rant against bad site design, though.
Anyway, since I'm using Opera, my objection to them is on a more philosophical level, but yeah, kill those things.

Yeah, let's lynch those scrollbars.

I really didn't have any problems with it, though. I always use my mouse scroller.

Code: Select all

for i in `grep -l "scrollbar-" *` ; do cat $i | sed -e 's/scrollbar-[^;]*;//' > $i ; done

May they suffer the horrible fate they deserve.
