Finally its that time. So what can we expect?

Well, alot of this democraticly elected leader

"But Sven, wtf, what about the games, you keep saying that the games is the games and that it allways is so"
You are correct in asking so. I will thus give a brief glimpse of what is to come.

HOCKEY

Perhaps what we will have the most in common, great chance to troll people from sucky hockey nations.

Such sucky nations as

CAN
ADA

Image
Image
Image

People you should relentlessly send pms to when Canada looses includes, but is not limited to, Lady Lamdadelta, Shadoweh

And also alot of LOL
USA

Image
Image

People you should relentless troll when the national treasures of USA falls over includes, but is not limited to, almost everyone.

And the predicted winner of the hockey games? I´ll give you a hint,
SWE
DEN

Image
Image

But Sven, oh great oracle, the hockey tournament is long and long, so what should we do in the meantime?

Young one, I am glad you asked.

CROSSCOUNTRY SKIING

This will be a scandinavian domination fest as per usual, sadly its mostly Norwegians who will get gold. This is especially true in the female events.

Image

This is
Marit Björgen
from Norway.
Marit Björgen is a pretty fit girl. Expect her to win as long as the course wont be too crowded with hills. Because if it is...

Image

Hello
Therese Johoug
.
This skiier is smaller, does not have the same top speed, BUT holy shit there is no stop in her energy tank. Duracell bunny.

On the mens side we have this
SWE
DISH
monster

Image

But personally I am rooting for this guy even though he is Norwegian

Image

Okay okay Sven, thats great, but what should we watch for laughs and giggles?

I´ve got ya.

SHORT TRACK SKATING

LOL AUSTRALIA

WHATEVER THIS IS CALLED

All jokes aside, this is a pretty cool sport

"Now now Sven, dont forget about the best event"
- Myko, sirdanilot
Dear Netherlands, no one wants to see men bent over going in oval cirlces

Sincerely yours, everyone.

PS: Okay okay... FINE

There will be some of whatever this is and it will be won by hamsterdamers

Allright, time to collect myself.

I wanted to include this event in the lol category but the wrath of an entire nation of gays and females have me hesitating. YES I HOPE I OFFENDED PRECISELY YOU.

Okay. Happy now?

Time to ice up.

Ahh now it is coming to me.

The Janitorial Tournament

Not really sure on the rules here, apparantly its played on this

With a bunch of stylish top notch athletes

Doing alot of whatever this is

Some how Sweden has, for some enigmatic reason, decided to be a dominant factor in this "sport", the female team took gold in vancouver (
LOL CANADA
). Speaking of Canada, they are THE FORCE in the game right now, with a gold and silver from vancouver.

The male team of Canada, file picture under ""athletes"".

The female team of Canada

But svenskt, I do seem to notice that this could be a sport where men AND women competed against eachother

You shut your mouth, females are clearly geneticly superior at whatever this was

Yawn, sucha snore fest, mark me down as not interested, but expecting alot of swedish triumph and canadian butthurt

Why didn't you include the Norwegian teams outfits? Gets one more point for a 4/10, just a massive oversight.

Why havent anyone bumped this? You are all bad and should feel bad.

I am so tilted on the swedish coverage. For decades big events has been bought up by our goverment controlled tv channels, so thats what we are used to. Now they cant afford it and some other fuckers bought it and they dont know shit.

So dont piss me off.

Its slopestyle right now, they fly high as fuck.

I'm just gonna leave what my friend Rowan wrote, because she said it way more eloquently than I could.
So, there's a small part of me that's been enjoying all the complete failures at Sochi, because of Russia's horrible anti-gay stance, and their general hubris about it. It would serve them right, I thought, for them to be embarrassed after shit like imprisoning Pussy Riot, passing sweeping anti-gay laws, allowing street beatings and abuses to take place and even encouraging them.

I felt sad for the athletes, who work their asses off to get there and to shine and who have been overshadowed by the politics and the drama, but I won't deny there has been, on my part, and some others' parts, a little tinge of "Suck it up, Russia, you should have let us move this when you turned out to be the Westboro Baptists on a much more massive scale, and the excuse that it was too late to move the games because 'so much of the work had been completed' is pretty laughable now."

But today I was forced to admit, two days ahead of the opening ceremonies, that it's really not funny any more. I'd been sort of keeping it in the back of my head that they'd be plagued with embarrassing but *small* problems, staffing mis-steps and poorly translated signs and hotel rooms with backed-up toilets.

The hotels have no water, and when there is water, guests are advised to neither drink it nor bathe in it, because of 'something dangerous' in it. I'm not sure what will happen, disease-wise, with nonfunctioning plumbing and thousands of people unable to even have reliable enough access to running water for regular hand-washing. There is unfinished construction lining the streets, buildings are without floors or occasionally walls, and several of the venues, including the ski jump, are unstable and likely dangerous. Several buildings in the city have collapsed as construction has progressed; a picture on Twitter shows a house leaning at a 45-degree angle. One athlete, a medal contender, has already been injured due to a structural problem and will probably not compete. Stray dogs are being rounded up and 'disposed of' somehow. Local officials still pretend that everything will be ready, everything is fine, everything is under control.

If all this weren't bad enough, there have been several obvious 'Black Widow bomber' training runs over the last few months, and terrorist organisations in the area have vowed to target the Games. The same officials who insist undrinkable water and collapsing buildings are a mark of everything being under control have assured us that every security precaution has been taken.

I am afraid for the athletes, and the spectators, and the people working in the city. I'm afraid for the Paralympians, especially, because I fear that the local officials will not put a priority on safety and stability when there are fewer people watching.

The concept of building an Olympic village and a press structure and sports venues and a transportation hub every few years in a new country and then maintaining the safety and well-being of thousands of visitors is pretty amazing, and I think we've taken for granted that it will work with only relatively minor inconvenience, and that the security will function and that even if the trains don't run on time they'll run on tracks. It is not working, in Sochi, and though I am still ambivalent about whether I will watch the games themselves, I am watching the situation, anxiously, and hoping that we make it through the next few weeks without terrible tragedy.
Retired as of October 2014.
