Anyone else aiming to participate in National Novel Writing Month? 50,000 words in 30 days.

I've only failed at it previously, but I want to do it again. In the next day or so I'm either talking myself out of it or talking myself into it.

This seems like a forum full of people who run off at the keyboard; anyone else doing it?

I'm still waffling about it. I won't have much time to work on it until Nov 9. I've finished nanowrimo twice before and with at least 4 days to spare. 9 days gone at the beginning of the month is scary.
Amid the pressure of great events, a general principle gives no help.

Now that I'm done with school I'm thinking this year's the year. We'll see though. I'm notoriously bad at commitment and notoriously good at procrastinating.

I say I'll do it every year. I never really try and by November 3rd I've given up. I kinda need a hobby right now so maybe this is the year...

I'm doing it, for the first time in a few years, not so much despite my crazy schedule as because of it; consciously choosing to take this on is tricking my mind into thinking, "if I'm choosing to do this, my schedule can't be all
that
hectic really," leaving me feeling somehow less stressed rather than more.

I'm writing comic fiction in a Choose Your Own Adventure format. This is my NaNo page.

Okay, I've talked myself into it. Mainly because I had an idea last night I think can work.

I'm going to end up going with a sort of linked collection of short stories that provide a more complete history of something, sort of like Foundation or Martian Chronicles except not nearly as good. I have a central idea but have a bunch of planning to do tonight and tomorrow. But at least I don't have to tie it all up into one neat plot! I'm more of a short story kind of guy anyway.

YAY!

Good luck to all! I'm doing it. I do it every year for the past 6 years and I love it. I don't know if I'll make it this time around, I think I'm the busiest I've ever been, but I'm excited to try. It may just be a little less coherent than it should be.

I think about this real hard every year, but just don't have any ideas that I could even remotely begin to write about.

I've done it before and I am planning on doing again this year. If you want to get technical about it I'm 2 for 4, but I don't like to count my first failed attempt. :D

Hey hey everybody

I'm /in for my fifth attempt at NaNo. Two wins under my belt, so I'm trying to stay above .500 this year.

Off to a good start today, just updated my count over 5000 and more importantly got the whole of Act I drafted. Got a little headstart by writing from midnight to 2AM last night after I got out of work, and thankfully its been a slow day at the restaurant today so I've just been sitting in the office NaNoing between making my rounds. Having an actual, honest-to-god outline has been enormously helpful already. No more pantsing for me!

EDIT: My NaNo handle is Brianstorm. Writing buddies, lets be those!

How do you tell your brain to quit being depressed so you can actually sit and write?

Umm...it helps if you get rid of the hangover first.

This is my process with this every year:

October 20-29th: oh! this would be pretty cool to try, maybe I'll give it a go
~whirlwind halloween time happens
November 2nd: oh shoot, that! well, I didn't get started right away, there's no chance of me succeeding
There will be no kisses tonight
There will be no holding hands tonight
'Cause what is now wasn't there before and should not be

For me it helps when I get an initial push, but it still is possible to do if you get started now (depending on how fast you write and how much time you have).

Who knew this 'planning' schtick could be so useful? I now have 70 scenes listed, the rules of time travel in a CYOA gamebook defined in a more-or-less logical way, and a bunch of silly lines ready to insert into appropriate places. The fact I still haven't done any of the *actual* writing yet is beside the point...
