What word? All I've heard is he called him chinito which isn't a pejorative, but can be insulting, which falls in line with shit talk, which is what it appeared to me he was doing rather than trying to be racist.
Maybe I'm wrong and he really is racist and hates Asians, but his past actions don't really point to that, so I'd rather not crucify someone that speaks 0 English and has lived in the US for like a year.

Dude, I live in a Spanish culture, it's doesn't mean "Asian", it means "chink". It's basically a colloquialism for "you all look the same". Literal meaning is "little Chinese man or boy". You could use the term affectionately, but that would require Darvish to be the dude's close friend. Like you don't walk into a Sushi Bar and start talking to the guy behind the counter like "ey chinito, un crunchy roll, por favor". The guy admitted what he said and doing the gesture was racist and indefensible. You're the only guy defending him. It's literally only you.
If you have a bone to pick with American people because they always inject their opinion and demand it's right, that is totally acceptable and possibly justified, but also completely not applicable here. People in spanish-speaking cultures agree that it's offensive, Gurriel himself agrees it was offensive, tons of Asian and Asian-American celebrities have called it offensive. There is not a culture where doing slanty eyes than hitting him with a pejorative that figuratively means "you all look the same" is acceptable.Sometimes a sandwich is just a sandwich.- Xiao Long

I have lived in Spanish cultures as well, which is partly why I made the comment as I’ve only heard the word used the way we use Asian in English. Yes the literal meaning is little Chinese boy, but the colloquial meaning is not as bad as the literal meaning makes it seem. There’s a lot of things we call people in Chinese where if you took the literal meaning it would be offensive. In Taiwanese white people are called 阿啄仔 which basically means “big nose” but isn’t intended to be offensive.
I’m the only guy on THIS site defending him, feel free to check places like reddit with hundreds of Hispanic people also saying “yeah, in our culture this isn’t so bad.” I guess you’re the authority on it though, so whatever, you can be right.
Asian-Americans are Americans, of course they would have the same mindset as you lol
Japanese people are only mad about the comment cause they took the literal meaning and they hate Chinese people with a passion, so of course they’re offended. The only thing slightly offensive to me was the eye gesture, but Asians (in Asia) do the reverse when talkings about foreigners all the time, so I’m not sure how much room I have to condemn that.
There definitely is a culture where doing the opposite gesture while using a so called pejorative is acceptable. It’s called China. And most other non first world cultures don’t have a problem with stuff like this."The only way to get smarter is by playing a smarter opponent."- Xiao Long

Dee Gordon to the Mariners gives the Mariners two top base stealers in Jerrod Dyson and Gordon, and two .300 calibur hitters in Jean Segura and Gordon. If the Mariners can land Ohtani I think they will have a good shot at the playoffs if they can stay healthy, of course, I thought that last year and that's a big if.- Lil Uzi Vert
