Mariners, who are underachieving, have a pretty important 3 game series against the Astros, who are probably overachieving. If the Mariners sweep it could put them in command of a so far weak AL West.

Also, I was hearing talk radio shows talk about Bartolo Colon. He is an interesting potential hall of famer. He has a 207 wins and a 3.94 career ERA, which is pretty decent in this day and age. He has been in the major leagues for 18 seasons, which is pretty impressive. From a longevity discussion, he probably deserves to be considered a hall of famer, he has had 2 20 win seasons, which isn't bad, and 5 seasons with 15 wins or more, and had a 200 inning season after turning 40 years old. I would probably vote him in because hitters get more attention than pitchers.

Nobody deserves to get into the HoF until Edgar Martinez does.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

I'm all for putting Colon in the hall of fame, right after they admit Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, and Alex Rodriguez.

I'm all for Edgar getting in the hall, but there is too much anti-DH bias out there.

Cubs have a winning record two weeks in. Now that Bryant and Russell are in the majors, will this continue or will it be yet another Last-in-the-NL-Central season?

I think the Cubs will be competitive. They are in kind of a tough division though, the Cardinals, Reds, and Pirates all look good.

The Cubs will almost certainly finish ahead of the Brewers and Reds. The Brewers are just bad, and the Reds have potential but are too inconsistent. I don't think the Cubs will challenge for the NL Central title, although they could sneak into a wild card spot.

So the Mariners lose 2 out of 3 from the Astros, either the Astros are better than expected, or the Mariners bullpen, which was a strength last year, is going through a dry spell, since the Mariners had leads in all three games.

I wouldn't bet on the Mariners on any day when Felix isn't pitching.

Well, they did win 87 games last year and were one win away from the playoffs, and newly acquired Nelson Cruz is tearing the ball up. They actually have a pretty deep pitching staff aside from Felix. Hisashi Iwakuma, is turning out to be a better pitcher than Daisuke Matsuzaka was, Tijuan Walker is one of the best young pitchers in baseball, and JA Happ is a solid inning eater.

You "cheaters shouldn't be let in" guys do realize that most of the players who are in the hall during the 60s-70s era were on speed to gain an advantage, right?

I don't think steroids should even be a factor to getting into the hall in the first place. In fact, I think player who weren't taking drugs should be banned, since they clearly weren't trying their best to win games.

I don't think anyone ever hit 70 Home Runs a season on speed.

Like the point is that drawing some sort of imaginary line over what cheating is ok and what is not is bullshit. Professional baseball players have cheated to gain an advantage since roughly forever. Up to and including using substances to boost the abilities of their bodies.

Babe Ruth injected testosterone into his body. Willy Mays is confirmed to have given 'greenies' to younger players to make them play better. Barry Bonds took steroids. Any distinction you make is meaningless and denied by facts. Its highly hypocritical to be all holier than thou about this specific generation of baseball players and just blindly pretending that they're any different from any other generation.

The point is it wasn't widely publicized until the 1980s, so there was no inherent damage done to baseball. Once it became a public issue, baseball was required to take steps to protect the integrity of the sport. With your logic, Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose shouldn't be banned either. Why not just let everyone do whatever they want without worrying about the consequences?

So its fine as long as you don't get caught? Sweet logic there, moron.

Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose shouldn't be banned. That's the first smart thing you've said all discussion.

Out of curiosity, what exactly is the argument here? That taking drugs is fine, so long as nobody knows so that the integrity of the sport isn't compromised? Trying to make sure I understand what you're actually saying before I try a counterargument.
