One explanation I've heard is "zero-point telekinesis" which would allow a hero with super strength to lift something like a car as a single unbending object.

Another question is why Superman would bother throwing a car at something, wouldn't a punch be more destructive?

I've been thinking, and I think the best superpower would be the ability to detect if somebody on the internet is serious or not.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

The best explanation I've heard is "He's not actually lifting it with his hands he's summoning a uniform gravitational field which lifts it for him". This also explains how he can catch a falling person and have them be totally fine. (In fact, the explanation was originally given to explain that, the ability to lift a car is jut a side effect).

Omniscience.

It's way better.

Really? Because I think that I, as an omnipotent being, have the power to know whatever I want. But I also have the power to not know it, so I don't get the endings to all my favorite TV shows spoiled before I've even watched them. Omnipotence beats omniscience any day.

If you were omniscient, you would know a way to not have your shows spoiled.

This or anything bestowing infinite intelligence (omniscience, omnipotence, super duper brain powers, being the internet) are really the only acceptable answers.

I love reading about stuff like this on TVTropes; the Required Secondary Powers article is the one I believe which covers stuff like this in that for the power to be "realistic", there's a sort-of force-field applied to the object being touched: thus why a person being held by superman traveling as fast as a speeding bullet doesn't die from whiplash, and such.

So I'm running a kids RPG group in the store that is superhero themed, and one of the kids chose this. He uses it to be creepy as possible as often as possible.

Actually not too uncommon. There's a reason it's listed as a common superpower on TVTropes.

In fact, I was actually deeply, deeply disappointed upon learning this fact.
Because Blood Masters (my name for the concept of heroes fighting using their blood--I use them named as such in two stories, one a fantasy setting and one an Urban Fantasy setting, though I have at least one other hero who fights with blood albeit not named as such) have been an idea of mine for...hmm, by now it'd have to have been at least six years, potentially up to ten. When I first thought the idea up, I was so
sure
it was unique to me, this idea. (Especially given that the premise was thanks to self-mutilation on my part*. I literally squeezed blood out of myself, squicky as that may sound, and from that I got the idea.)

*So basically, what sthar8 said. I fully admit, it was pretty creepy. But the thoughts of a young, suicidal person with an overactive imagination often are.
