You can download 10 for free when it comes out (I plan on doing it as I have the same offer with my OS) but you can choose when to (or even if) you want to install it.

Grab it, watch the boards and user feedback for a few weeks and then decide if you want to install it. That is what I plan on doing.

I wouldn't recommend going to any Microsoft OS until it has been vetted for 6 months to a year. By then they have gotten rid of several, but not all, vulnerabilities.

Well I guess it really depends on how you use your machine. I am probably thinking more from a work mindset than a home use.

I'm jumping on 10 so fast when it's out. It's free and it's gonna be good.

From everything I've heard 10 is just basically slightly updated 7 UI on 8's backend. So, sure, I'll switch.

From what little I've read, Win 10 is SUPPOSED to consolidate all Microsoft and Microsoft Compatible products under the same OS. Computers, tablets, mobile and XBox (good chance I missed a thing or two in there).

I'm of the opinion that Juls may actually be onto something here. Trying to integrate all those is probably going to create some weirdness and epic fails right out of the gate because we know that Microsoft ALWAYS exhaustively test their new stuff before releasing it to the public, right?

"Alpha test? Beta test? We don't need no steeking tests. It compiled, release it."

It has been released to the public effectively, in the form of numerous Developer Previews

Limited time free upgrade to owners of Windows 8 and Windows 7. Although I think there are some restrictions to Windows 7. Like you have to have the 64-bit Home Premium version or above to qualify. Not 100% sure of that though.

[Add-on Edit]Here are the particulars:

weird

when I was looking into buying a PC I found a microsoft website saying it was valid for one year. I think I may have misinterpreted the one year window for free upgrading as I cannot refind this information

if they start trying to charge a yearly subscription fee or something,
i'll just make a short and tasteful visit to the pirate bay
or maybe i'll go back to 8.1
or maybe i'll switch to ubuntu
choices it's so nice to have choices
