Whenever Trump says "Open Borders" as the oppositional stance to "The Wall", it makes me think that Trump believes that without the wall it's literally barren open desert between the US and Mexico. There's no roads, or checkpoints, or river, or towns, or anything else... Just nothing. Openness.

And if he puts a wall there, then people would try to cross, but see a wall and turn back. Stymied.

This is Trump's understanding of the problem. This is Trump's solution. And he has contempt for anyone that doesn't see things his way.
Occasionally intellectually honest

If I could make anyone president it wouldn’t be her but as a consensus pick with good positioning to beat Trump I’d be happy to vote for her

This is my congress woman right now.. I was somewhere else when I voted, and I'm falling in love with the Somali community around here, but damn I wish she wasn't my congress woman.

Ugh. A nazi news website which I refuse to promote by naming is even praising her:

"This [] Congresswoman is []... crushing the [jewish people] and their [] allies like Kevin McCarthy.
McCarthy is now the nation’s national hallmonitor, who will hunt you down and destroy your life completely if you ever question [the jewish people]
The difference between Steve King and [Rep. Ilhan Omar], however, is that [Rep. Ilhan Omar] does not give a fuck."

Hate speech removed or replaced. I mean it's all hate speech, I guess, but I still want to shine a light on how the worst of the worst feel about Rep. Ilhan Omar and this is the least offensive way I could think of while still keeping the meaning.

Yeah not a good look, and being anti-Israeli State while not being anti-Semitic is hard for our society

i can’t think of a way that a one-state solution would work safely for the Jewish people in Israel and that’s part of what BDS is about

in general the left’s discourse about israel/the middle east seems awfully inadequate and oversimplistic, rooted too much in conspiracy thinking instead of serious engagement with reality

the right’s isn’t much better of course

The NFL's Cleveland Browns has signed Kareem Hunt.

It's nice to know that the NFL won't sign Kaepernick but will sign Hunt. Good to know where the NFL stands. And I'm sure Trump won't say anything condemning Hunt.

Partway through watching that speech thing in El Paso, one thing I will say (which has probably been obvious to many others, but to me only on reflection) - he's a much better showman and salesman than anyone I've seen in US politics before, and I've been following the political arena for a while.

My stomach does want to eject a rib into my brain but it's interesting to watch just suppressing that gut instinct.

Bill Weld is going to challenge Trump for the GOP nomination. We live in exciting times.

I wonder if Weld can gain traction just by not being Trump. I think there will be more GOP nominees though.

There’s no way he wins.

Republicans are behind Trump. The New England Republican doesn’t exist outside of Collins and the governors.

And I’m cool with that brand of republicanism. It’s more of a progressive libertarianism.

Anyone who read the 538 article on him this morning knows I’m basically parroting what they wrote but I do think it has merit.

I'm not saying he wins, I'm saying gain traction. having competition could conceivably hurt Trump in the general election. Or maybe it helps. Who knows.

I'm definately more Weld than Trump from an ideological standpoint.

If the party was more like Weld I would probably have at least a few crossover votes here and there.

Idk if a divided primary does much to or for trump.

I think his cult or personality benefits from having an enemy.

The thing is Trump is part of the establishment now. If another candidate can tap into Trump's anti-establishment appeal, they could conceivably have a chance.

Yeah shaking up Washington is big right now.

People feel left behind. Obama won on change. Trump won on tearing shit down. The next person will have to be anti-establishment. It’s in vogue even if no one ever actually commits to it.

I'm pretty sure if Trump gets indicted Pence would run.
