And bands are definitely still doing that sound. White Stripes / Jack Whites solo work, Black Keys, Cage The Elephant

It's an objective statement.

all you've proved here is that "hard rock is no longer around"

to say that there is no rock at all is pretty much entirely wrong considering how wide a range of things the "rock" title covers, and how it is an ever-evolving genre etc etc

It's like saying that "pop is no longer around" because it doesn't sound like it did in the 80s

It's a great cover. Great song, too.

I do not know more than you. I never said I knew more than you. I think you need lessons in reading. I asked a friend of mine, who certainly does know more. He was a touring musician for a number of years(toured with guys like Lupe Fiasco) and has a music theory degree.

And when I say big sound, I don't mean loudness or audience size. Are you English as a second language or something? Listen to stuff that's considered hard rock. AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, Deep Purple, Zeppelin type stuff. That classic rock sound is extinct. No one makes music like that anymore. I understand that you said your friend, my "he" there was referring to him, and my not giving a fuck about him. And you can piss right off with the whole insulting my reading abilities bit, thanks.

"Big sound" is literally loudness. My bit about audience size is a callback to your referencing "stadium rock".

If you think that out of the literally millions of bands in existence that none of them can be considered rock, then I can not help you.

In post 98, Kublai Khan wrote:I kinda agree with panzer that Megadeth is pretty horrible. Even when I listened to 80s/90s hard rock/metal acts, there never was a Megadeth album or song that I could honestly say that I enjoyed.

But I disagree with panzer that "rock" is dead. I mean, I understand that music constantly evolves, but "classic rock" isn't just some transitional phase. What about that garage rock revival of the early 2000s? The White Stripes, The Hives, The Strokes, The Black Keys, Jet, Wolf Parade, etc?

i fucking love white stripes and the black keys omg.

also, rock is far from dead. music evolves, sure, but that's like saying rap is dead, pop is dead, or even country is dead. just because a certain genre of music evolves from one generation to another doesn't mean it's any less enjoyable or even dead lol.

and theres also bands that take it back classic and shit, harder to find because as i said, generations grow up to like different shit, but they're still there

In post 107, Flubbernugget wrote:I disagree that a big sound is a loud one

Most characteristics of "big" sound either deal with heavily compressed signals or "live" recordings in large rooms.

In the former, this is directly described as "loudness", in terms of perceived dynamics and volume.
In the latter, the recorded source is also "loud", because it needs to be in order to pick up the signal at a strong enough volume before the reverb of the room washes it out.

So you're literally incorrect no matter how you want to argue it.

I have to eat a mic to scream but can belt with with the mic a good 6 inches from my face and still have it picked up. The scream still sounds bigger to me even though the belt is objectively louder.

Yeah you kind of lost me too.

Maybe you're just not opening your voice up to the room enough when you belt. You gotta deliver it from the upper chest.

Like a loud, present clean vocal will always be fuller than any kind of metal-esque scream, pig-squeal or growls.

Also learn mic control if you're finding yourself varying your mic-to-mouth distance any by more than 2 inches

You're not increasing/decreasing volume at that point, you're just affecting bass pickup and ambient room pickup

Compare the clean verse vocals against the chorus vocals and tell me which one sounds "bigger" to you.
