Because if I had to guess I'd say at least a large cut (perhaps a majority) of people voting for it are voting not on the merits of the book itself but rather the franchise that has popped up around it.

The books are incredibly good literature and one of my favourite reads

Ppl can have a fav book for any reason, including liking the franchise, being a descendant of tolkien or having a hobbit fetish

They vote as long as its their favorite
