Very little work... just lie down... let the transplant team put you to sleep and you won't feel a thing until you wake up then owie!!!! The Canadian health care system pays for some tests, the airfare, hotel costs...

It's really cool how it works, because there are very high standards of ethics that need to be respected. The transplant coordinator is the person that explains everything to donors that may come forward, and is ethically bound to kinda talk them out of it! It's understood that, this being the most elective of elective surgeries, the donor can back out at any time... including on the operating table.

In case anyone is curious, I never even smoked pot so no drugs at all, I am not diabetic, I am perfectly healthy but for a hereditary, degenerative kidney disease called polycystic kidneys.

On Friday I am getting the surgery to begin dialysis sometime in August.

I was kind of considering this until I realized the opening post instructs me to email some coordinator and tell her "I'm interested in becoming a live kidney donor for DrippingGoofball" and now I am not sure if it's a joke.
I regret spending the past ten minutes learning about live kidney donation now
