It pays to help clean out apartments.

Maintenance asked for a hand cleaning out an apartment when a tenant was evicted.

I wound up scoring a sweet sound bar (with subwoofer and satellite tweeters) and DVD player.

The sound bar is blue tooth, so I'm streaming music from my Galaxy Note through it and it sounds better than my stereo ever did.

Today was a good day.

After so long, the management has the right to dispose of unclaimed possessions. The apartment had been unused for a couple months.

It wasn't pretty.

Right but that doesn't answer if they willingly left the things or if they did not have time to collect them

Just seems weird to make a thread about "Hey this person got forcibly removed from their home and here I am collecting their nice things!" but maybe I'm just a bitter old prick.

Usually things do get left behind when a tenant is evicted. Sometimes it is by choice, most of the time it is by necessity. I left a lot of things behind including things I did not want to leave behind, when the landlord decided to screw me over on my mom's house after she died. Had I had the money, I could have sued him for defamation of character plus of course the sneaky way he made sure if my mom died I was not actually on the lease even though I was supposed to be, so he could up the rent to 800 a month on me all of a sudden 2 weeks and 1 day after my mom died.

Basically he put in writing that he wanted me to have my mental competency tested and that he believed I belonged in a home for the mentally retarded, IN WRITING he did that. And gave me the letter the day after my birthday and 2 days before Christmas Eve.

Yeah he was supposed to be the realtor to help my mom and I buy the house from the ex's family trust. After almost 25 years of being married, when my mom was in the hospital for 4 months due to a pulmonary embolism, her hubby decided as soon as she got home in Dec 2004 to serve her with divorce papers, and of course push for the sale of the home she had lived in for about 20 years at that point. It got so bad that both the family trust lawyer and Ted's divorce lawyer were bending over trying to do what they could to help my mom because Ted had turned into a bitter, hateful drunk, and was no longer the man he had been for so long.

We had finally sorted out the whole agreement on buying the house for 150 k, which was a low price for it but as I said they knew in any other case after almost 25 years of marriage, with Ted having his parents property, the house would have been outright given to my mom. But since his parents bought the house for them and put it in the family trust, my mom was totally screwed over.

Just as we were about to sign the papers with the realtor, Ben died and we lost a chunk of monthly income, and the realtor said he would buy it for the 150 k and give us a cheap rent of 350 a month instead. My mom and I agreed, but dude even though he had me listed several places in the lease, conveniently made sure there was no place for me to sign on it. And of course I was depressed over the loss of my son, and too busy to really grieve because I was taking care of my mom 24/7 due to her being bedbound after she got back home from the 4 month stay at the hospital. I killed myself health wise to make sure she lived the rest of her life in that home and not in a nursing home.
