Some people in site chat expressed an interest in learning how to program. The idea behind this thread is people on MS that know how to code working together to make a program for those who don't to help them learn. An idea for a group project was a mafia app (this would make me lean to teaching Java). If you have interest in either the teacher or student end post here and say which.
I'm currently a student in java so like
I dont think I know enough to teach but Id love to be a student/not a beginner
I can teach the basics? I tutor business students
(aka i explain what an Object is to the clueless masses)

SO I imagine if we do decide on a mafia app, step one is going to be teachers getting together and designing it, and then figuring out which elements can be broken down to teach which concepts. From there basics will need to be taught, I'm sure you can handle different parts of these things.
I believe I could do that. I like the mafia app idea and this would also be fantastic practice for me
I can teach basics, yeah

Also, I guess we could use unity(c#) instead of java. Might muddle basic programming concepts, but would potentially take care of a lot of work in terms of making the app side of things.
Unity was the top-suggested environment for beginners with apps from one of my professors, and they weren't a terrible Prof, so
I know your question was to Errant but I'll just note that I know the basics of Python, C, C++, and java.

One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.
Can I /in if it only sticks to Java? I'm interested in learning the JVM, but not really Unity. I have experience with and can navigate around most imperative/oo languages pretty easily, but have never really gotten deep into any API's to do any useful coding.
When do you plan on starting this? And over what medium?

I'm not completely new to this tho. Was taught c++ basics during freshman year but memory needs refreshing and I'm interested in the design part
i know a thing or two about java and i've used android studio to make an app in my advanced java class (although i basically only worked in XML and front-end stuff :/), so that's nice
i really need a refresher in back-end stuff though

i no longer strictly go by they/them and honestly prefer she/her but they/them's fine if you're used to it i guess
Probably start next weekend. We've been discussing medium. Current thoughts are a mix of text and discord voice chat. I also considered youtube videos, but feel like that might require too much production time.
