sketchy data science road trip

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sat Nov 05, 2016 5:16 pm

hey guys i would love to have a coding buddy to build cool things and collect cool data in a quasi-didactic context but am not interested in designing a formalish course

i do a lot of data sciencey things (finding data and telling stories about it) such as this
if you know even just the basics of coding and want to be a part of that while learning and sometimes tutoring on the parts of the ins and outs of it that i'm familiar with and/or am learning myself then pop me a pm we will work something out

we'll tour exotic languages like python, r, javascript and maybe matlab; we'll do statistics we barely understand and make pretty graphs to share them with others; we'll hunt for informational cryptids never before seen in the wild; most importantly, we'll always and only do things no one has ever quite done before

think of it more as a sketchy road trip than a camp i spose

That sounds so cool, count me as in
I'm curious to know why you're juggling several programs when your goal is just compiling data? Bc from what I heard python's the easiest to use

hey this sounds like exactly what i want to do in the future

i probably am not going to have time for BOTH of these camps so uh

/out for the unity thing (unity uses an in-house language, right? not really into game dev so i'm not sure how useful it'd be for me)

/in for psyche's sketchy road trip

any indication of when these will start? i'm going to be kinda busy for the next few weeks so i don't want to commit to a lot of things until my schedule's more clear. if it's just whenever i'll pm psyche (and kraska) when i'm available
i no longer strictly go by they/them and honestly prefer she/her but they/them's fine if you're used to it i guess

This sounds interesting.
There's nothing that says that a fake can't beat the real thing.

You must not imagine that for beings like you and us there can be laughter. The low men laugh, and we envy them. But for us, the higher ones, there is no laughter, only an unending vigil, purely serious, stretching on into the night.

I'm actually an analytics developer in my day job, although I work in SQL.

Happy to help folks with SQL questions and I guess I could use an excuse to bang out some python.

Looks like infochimps is no longer the clearhousing for cool free data sets it once was; where do the kids go for free data nowadays?
