here are some paper plate awards (if i left you out, it wasn't intentionally! you were very cool but i couldn't think of anything, i'm bad at these.)
i love you all

implosion: the "says 'edge case' at least once per day" award (you are super cool but i wanted to make this joke)
vi: the "being as awesome as i thought you were going to be" award
equinox: the "being as awesome as last time we met" award
caled: the "person who i really wished could stay for more days" award
zoraster: the "best conversationalist in car rides, thus eliminating all potential prolonged silences" award
llamafluff: the "most friendly and wonderful host" award (this one seems like a toss-in but trust me, it's genuine. you did so much for the meet and i appreciate you friend)
petroleumjelly: the "best person i didn't know much of anything about before the meet" award
firebringer: the "most likely to mutilate himself to preserve body symmetry" award
iecerint: the "cool and friendly person that somehow never sounds very excited" award
did another ms user do something lovely? recognize their achievements here!

Today's modern mafia consumer demands dozens, nay, hundreds of roles that are vanilla cops.

For the record, my arm has healed.

Yeah was great meeting everyone, kind of wish I got to talk to and get to know some people more, I blame resk for taking up people's time to much for to do other stuff with.

Actiondan, icerint, gamma and molla wish I had interacted more with, everyone was pretty cool and interesting.

Mos, narna, Titus, implosion, mathblade, caled, vi, equinox, ep, and llama were great.

Also team random ftw.

Also had a great time, only wish I could have stayed longer! Was a bit afraid since I was unfamiliar with so many names, but after getting over my social anxiety it always seems to turn out that people are pretty great. Special thanks to 'nox and 'fluff for organizing!

Wish I had gotten in some more games with a few people, but I suppose that's a good incentive to attend the next!

My record in this Chinese Bang! game:
*Two games
*Two wins (rebel and turncoat)
*Two hours total (at least)

I'm guessing everyone else is having the most fun they can while groaning in pain as they shuffle the deck for the seventh time.

The meet's over

but the flight delays never stop

ultra mega thanks to Llama for getting all this together, it was great seeing and playing games with you guys (the two rooms+boom games and the escape room were I think my absolute favorites, with late night smash bros. and Ra being very close and Ra also having the bonus of letting me talk hieroglyphic-themed shit at implosion for the rest of the day)

Thank you to everyone for coming to the meet! I had a great time with you all. Special thanks to LlamaFluff for basically making the meet happen.

I have an album of photos that I'm going to share only with people who attended the meet. If you do not want an image of you disseminated, then please let me know as soon as possible so that the relevant photos can be removed.

I'm on a train.

I'm going to echo what a bunch of people have said - it's hard to guess what a meet will be like until it's happening all around you. This turned out well, I think. A lot of people I wasn't sure about turned out to be really great, and there are a whole bunch of you I'd totally hang out with a lot given the opportunity.

I don't know what it would take to get that opportunity, though. We could use another commune.

I'm home so I guess it's my turn to write an epitaph.

This has been truly an amazing time, with great games and much, much greater people. All of you are all that I was hoping you were and more. I'm impressed that there is such a dense concentration of people from the same place can all be so genuinely wonderful people. I think this was the first time I met anyone from MS in real life, and it very certainly will not be the last.

Highlights that are definitely not stolen from Gamma include the escape room and two rooms and a boom, which may have been the happiest I've ever been to lose a game (damn you Alisae!)

Special thanks, of course: Llama, for setting everything up. Llama, for spending a third of the meet in his car. Llama + whoever else, for managing to keep the house stocked with infinite turkey sandwiches. Llama and also very much Equinox, for somehow managing to endure organizing things like a constantly changing set of 6-12 people going to an escape room at some undetermined time with grace. Zoraster, for the ride to the meet. Everyone who brought games, especially MoS for bringing the day to day rotation which was really great. Literally everyone (although I guess that isn't special thanks) for just being damn fun people.

Excited for the next time I get to see each of you, wherever in California or elsewhere it will be :)

I think Equinox might have one of these as well which will have some other things.

My list of all games that I played, possibly with stuff missing, and with some notable games annotated with things to remember them by:

Spoiler:
Day one:
Nominally on mos team for betrayal
One night ultimate alien
Leaders of euphoria (cult breaking strategy?)
Codenames

Day two:
Splendor (photo finish with Titus)
Zendo
Mafia
Dead last (crazy photo finish with mos and iec)
House of Borgia
San Guo sha
Masquerade

Day three:
Evolution
Ethnos
The grizzled
Smash 4
Shadow hunters (lol survivor acquiescing to threats)
Sabotile (unreleased kickstarter)
Escape room victory

Day four:
Roll for the galaxy
Parade
The builders Middle Ages
Ra (this never actually happened as far as vi and I are concerned)
Mafia
Shadow hunters
Two rooms and a boom (definitely another highlight + hot potato breaking up the me-gamma-dan love triangle)
Emergence (on stream)
Smash (incl all lucario temple game)

Day five:
Smash (1v1s with vi)
Sentinels of the multiverse (saved by the meteor storm at literally one hp each)
San Guo sha
Council of Verona
Dark moon
San Guo sha again (renegade healer op)
Mysterium (what even is a barbell)
Antidote (why is pink drink so healthy)

Day six:
Smash (2p events w/ vi)
Infinite questions (mostly while waiting for laundry)

Here is a list of board games that I played at the meet. Errantparabola should be coming along with a third list, as well.

July 14

One Night Ultimate Alien (x2)
Codenames (x2)

July 15

Sentinels of the Multiverse (x2)
Zendo (x6)
A Game of Thrones: Hand of the King
Sushi Go!
Antidote

July 16

Five Tribes

July 17

Argent: The Consortium
Mafia
Shadow Hunters

Highlights:
  • One Night Ultimate Alien is the sort of game that looks and feels like Mafia but isn't because of the wacky roles in it. In any case, if you swap the Blob around enough,
    everyone
becomes the Blob. Also, please tip cows carefully. Also, also, I had a hard time not cracking up during the Night phase because of the narrator's dramatic reading (e.g., "Put your thumb-like appendage away").
  • In Codenames, "Doctor: 1" was the clue for "Ducks" not because of the sound "ducktor" because that's totally illegal but because lalaladucks is an aspiring physician. It makes complete sense.
  • In the final game of Zendo, we had so much trouble deciphering the Buddha nature of Vi's sculptures that we stopped making individual inquiries and instead turned it into a cooperative game. We still didn't get it.
  • Alisae kept throwing out purple antidotes. Why, Alisae, why?
  • Five Tribes is a gorgeous game with what I would guess are excellent mechanics, but it was blistering hot inside and I checked out sometime before the game started. Errantparabola can build a mean Camel Jenga tower, though.
  • Argent: The Consortium took 30 minutes to explain. We started at around 9 or 10 AM, and we finished at either 12 PM or 1 PM. Despite claiming that they couldn't possibly win, BBmolla won four votes for Chancellor and Vi had three.
  • One of the Mafia games played had two Nights of moderator errors (one by me, one by Gammagooey, IIRC) because, despite having an observer, we couldn't figure out who was pointing at whom. Good times.

Alisae kept throwing out purple antidotes. Why, Alisae, why?
This is ironic, because in the last round of our antidote game I was dealt the purple 3, 4 and 5. I held on to all of them until the last few cards (I had all three of them and one other card), and I was acting sufficiently suspiciously that Dan decided he needed to syringe one of those delicate purple vials from my hand. Of course, I'm right after dan, and use his gracious gift to steal an X card from in front of Llama... and it is, of course, the purple X card.

Did troll Iec and MoS into holding their purples until the end so it was ultimately worth it.

*makes pretty stack*
"This sculpture has the Buddha nature."

*takes some pieces and slams them on the table*
"Th--"
*subtly shifts the pieces a little*
"THIS sculpture sure as heck DOES NOT."

I had four and Influence. I thought for sure I had lost, but etc.

Also you locked the magical whimsical astronomy tower :(
zoraster wrote:My biggest objection is that Five Tribes should really be a freaking five player game.
I wonder if the expansions allow this.

I mean, technically you're not playing as any of the tribes, but etc.

Also the Ra game involved me getting like one tile after the first Epoch. Somehow last place was still contested.
