D&D on Mish Mash.

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Fri Jan 27, 2017 4:11 am

I didn't know whether to post this on Mish Mash or here, so please move if this is in the wrong spot.

I know there's a website that's specifically used for something like this, but is there a potential reason at all why it couldn't be done in a large mish mash game?

Things can still be the same, done with the 5e rulebook or however people do it.

I mean, the website used for it (unless there are games I don't know about) Is roll20, which has a lot of specific tools for playing. Play by Post games have been attempted in the past and tend not to take off because of the slow nature of things.

Do you think it could start off with the right mod?

It would be about finding the right players more than the right DM. Compare Boardgames in MishMash to IRL. Weeks vs 1-2hrs. D&D sessions can take 4-6h. (though only 3 on the MS ones I know of). It's all just spread out. Also personally I vastly prefer the voiced interactions for D&D. Could it work for some players? Yes. People play by post elsewhere on the internet.

i'd definitely be interested in playing! i've only played pathfinder but basically all of the information for it is available for free online (basically the CONTENTS of the books are free but in book form costs money). dunno about 5e but that's why my group plays PF.

if you need help with assets i strongly recommend using Tiled. thats what i use to make my maps when i do roll20 sessions. if you need a tileset i'll try to hit you up with what i used but it's been a while. if you have photoshop knowhow (not even art skills just like the ability to use it) you should be able to make a tileset

you could probably use myth-weavers for character sheets too

agreed with chamber that actually getting long term interest is going to be tough. i'd probably try campaigns that work as one-shots before getting a long-term group to gauge interest? i have like 0 mish mash modding experience though so idk if thats useful

but yeah i prefer play-by-post over voice (at least w/ stangers) so i've been waiting for something like this

keep me posted
i no longer strictly go by they/them and honestly prefer she/her but they/them's fine if you're used to it i guess

I think someone should do this, but I've barely ever played D&D, so I shouldn't do it.

But if we can keep this game going and if it can work, I'd love to.

It doesn't really work. There was a Star Wars pathfinder-esque one about two years back, maybe less, but it died almost immediately

The current active D&D group (as far as i know) uses roll20's real time chat system, not voice.

I've been itching to DM at some point but I just don't think forum posting works at all for roleplay.

I hear you. I've wanted to play D&D for such a long time, but I really can't do this because on the weekends, I do what my wife wants me to do.

And I'm not online much over the weekends.

There are many groups that do it over the internet via voice or chat. It's all about just finding a common time, really.
