MS Book/Reading club (Google Form)

Derivative, probably, the why don't people read any more thread? NO.

GOOGLE FORM: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... g/viewform
WILL TABULATE NEXT WEDNESDAY!

So I love reading. It is my Morning, Day, and sometimes night Job. Now adays I can't remember the last time I haven't read at the very least 30 pages of something or the other in a given day. But I'm growing a bit tired of reading stuff that I have to read or that is part of "research". I remember the days when I read for pleasure and I wish I could read like I did then.

So I propose we have a mafiascum bookclub where we read a text (book, article, collection of poetry) that is readily available that we all read and discuss together.

Here I want to promote, encourage, and learn from discussions of written expressions from humanity, here are some things that need to be decided for the ms bookclub inc. And I want to make this happen because, for me at least, pleasure reading is a thing of the past and I want to do this again. So, what should we read? What should the length of the texts be? How long should we take to read the
first
text? What should the first book/article/poem that we read be?

tentative suggestion:
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley ~ a book I read in high school, remember, but wish to return to. Read it by 3/1/2017. It seems reasonable. It is readily available in most public libraries and, if needed, pdfs are available  .

my op game is weak:
Let's read a book every month or so, decide on what we read, "we" (pm me or go to the fucking library for once) can get copies of the book, and lets discuss.

Currently reading 'Debunk It!: How to Stay Sane in a World of Misinformation' by John Grant.

It's easy reading and focuses talk about bullshit that people end up, or ended up, believing as true, for one reason or another; usually due to being fed false information by what seemed to be credible sources. The purpose of the book is to not only poke holes in some of the anti-science crap that people try to get us to believe but also how to tell the bullshit from the good stuff.

Only 288 pages cover to cover.

I'm sort of where gork is. Yes I enjoy reading. Yes I enjoy other people telling me about stuff I should read, but I have a bit of a backlog.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.

next up is "The Silk Roads" by Peter Frankopan ;)
after that (though maybe I'll read in my ongoing project in between) "why nations fail" by daron acemoglu, from which the first bits I've seen gives some nice openings for discussion, but doesn't seem all that pleasant to read.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.

Two books pertaining to Irish history, an astronomy guide, a comic's novel and "Ready Player One" (five, apparently, not four), I don't reckon anyone else would particularly want to read them. Currently reading "Ardennes 1944: Hitler's Last Gamble".
