Chevre Ranks: Top 100 Songs of ALL TIME...ish (#98!)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu Apr 13, 2017 2:18 pm

Post by Chevre »

Hi everyone! I'm going to try and sort of rank my favorite 100 songs of ever -- or at least, a good slew of songs I really like.

The way I narrowed it down to 100 is I pared through my massive master playlist of 3200 songs by breaking it down into 100 single-elimination brackets of 32, randomly determined. The songs that won each bracket are what comprise this top 100.

It's by no means a perfect list, but I think it really shows what songs I like and it's certainly a good selection of what I believe would be in my Top 100. It's a glimpse into my music taste -- a little bit of everything, country, drone, pop, rap, and a ton of novelty songs . . .

But yeah. Here's the list of years from whence each song was released. And the colors mean something too . . . speculate! theorize! ^_^

Well I can't predict much as too many are in the later decades, but I'm guessing the 1971 is Life on Mars?

It's definitely not genre based on what chev said about there being a little bit of everything.
My first guess is something like solo artist / duo / group?
did another ms user do something lovely? recognize their achievements here!

only 1 80's song and 4 90's songs mean I prob will not like this much but I expect it to be better than Davsto's.
Of all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

i reckon its male/female/either no or multiple vocalists for colours. its the only thing i can think of that would make sense outside of group/duo/soloartist for the three way split.

Timbaland ft. Katy Perry

"If We Ever Meet Again"

2010

Image

Discovery:
It was on the radio, back in yonder 2010. I remember distinctly it being my favorite song on the radio, which is why it's here, probably.

This freefall got me so
Kiss me all night, don't ever let me go

In One Word:
Dated.

The Details:
We're off to a great start, aren't we? I'm pretty sure this had a weak group. I think it was also the last group I did so fatigue was setting in. This song probably sounds average to a whole bunch of people, but I like it. It's like right when Katy Perry's career was taking off, so she was still novel back then. I think Timbaland and Katy's voices contrast really interestingly. It's definitely stuck in that turn-of-the-decade sound, but as you can tell from all the 2010 and 2011 songs still to come, I probably really like that. I can't say that this is the most popular song on my ranking and I'm getting it out of the way right away, no way, but I ensure you that all of them aren't like this. Anyway, I'll close by saying the weird upturn at the tail end of the song is fun and I never heard it on the radio so it was an interesting discovery upon adding it to my playlist on Spotify.

Honorable Mentions:
I can't say there's any other Timbaland song I like a whole bunch, probably when he's featured on Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous"? But in a shocking twist this is the only Katy Perry song on this list, so I can give you a few of my favorites from her, which all come from her first album:

"Thinking of You"
"Ur So Gay"
"Waking Up in Vegas"
There will be no kisses tonight
There will be no holding hands tonight
'Cause what is now wasn't there before and should not be
