Gen 3 easily.

Perfect game speed. This can't be overstated as it makes this generation very replayable. Starters and legendaries were all great and all the new Pokemon were really cool. Interesting post game.

Karrablast, Grubbin, Foongus, Alolan Vulpix, the entire Snivy line, Roggenrola line, the Sewaddle line, whimsicott/lilligant, the solosis line, Emolga, Shelmet, Joltik, Tynamo, litwick, axew, larvestaline, fennekin line, fletchling line, Espurr/Meowstic, the gen 6 fossils, Goomy line <3, rowlet + decidueye, primarina, cutiefly line, dewpider/araquanid, Morelull, Fomantis, Bounsweet, Mimikyu and Tapu Koko are ALL greats of the series.
