New Homepage Design

I am working with the Omerta team to design a new homepage for mafiascum.net. We would like to receive some feedback from the community.

We have two designs in mind:

The first:

The second is a similar design but without the blood:

The first design adds an interesting element to it by adding some blood to the homepage. However, I am concerned about how it may look to others and would like some feedback from the general community in relation to this.

I am almost finished the coding and we are hoping to have this finished by the end of next week.

As much as I like the blood, think it'd probably be better for overall appeal without it.

Designing, and working with these peeps has been amazing. We're working really hard to amp up the home page. Give it a good face lift. While I like both designs that I've designed, and the team has coded, I am in favor of the blood just to add some salt & pepper to the overall design. We're currently having some issues with the blood element in the coding aspect, but potentially looking into methods to fix those coding issues. That being said I'm going to challenge some of the points presented.

Why? Think of the demographic that you usually see on the site, and what their interests usually are. Seems fitting to me, unless we have way different ideas of the demographic. Besides, it works in conjunction with the night kill element you deal with in the game. Basically the landing page is a selling page. The game itself has no interesting visuals, so why not give it some.

because the game has no visuals is why you don't want to sell it with them. But I also don't think the violent imagery is good to lead with.

A man holding a gun (your original image, but now brightened) is as violent as the new image I'd argue. One shows he is going to kill someone, and the other shows the deed is finished.

Fair enough. Personally, I think it adds a good touch to the site. It certainly feels "Mafia"-like.

I mean, there ARE users under 13 on this site, and I don't think some parents would be okay with their children seeing such a gruesome image.

It does look neat though.

There are very few users under 13 on the site. If parents don't have an issue with them playing games about lynching and killing, then they shouldn't have an issue with the blood. That's just my opinion.

It adds some much needed balance to the page. I don't think it looks bad. I still think it should be excluded and that those things should be achieved someway else.

a) Let's be honest here, if someone has issues with the fact the blood (which is a part of LITERALLY EVERY HUMAN) and not the fact that a gun is

obviously

being pointed at someone off-screen, there's a problem with the person, not the image. Hell, basically every game ever that has a rating of E10+ or T (in ESRB ratings) or 13+ tends to have fictional violence, and several tend to have fictional blood too.

b) The first image is better, but I think that's actually more to do with the background lighting than it is the blood. I can't entirely see the guy in image #2.

Yeah, basically. I'm not saying you have to like it, but if you can't

tolerate

a cartoonish blood picture than you're almost certainly not mature enough to be on mafiascum.

I thought the blood was supposed to be coming from somebody offscreen that got shot, but maybe that's just me.
