it's so fun to make a big deal out of things we could easily get by being apathetic about
sort of like choosing to ride on a roller coaster

In places where it was only partial, it was only a sign of partial doom. Consider ourselves lucky.

I was off work today and watching from my back yard, took a few pics, all by cellphone through my eclipse glasses and one or two in the blind while not looking directly at the sun:

Was in s. Carolina for thr eclipse. Totality can not be overhyped. You think you know what its going to be like, seen pictures, watched videos.... and then still it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. When the next total eclipse hits in april 2024, do yourself a favor, get in the path, don't miss it. Don't think for a minute that 80%, 90%, even 99% coverage is good enough. When it hits 100% it instantly changes from, "yeah thats a little less sun than before" to "holy fucking shit that's incredible". You won't believe the hype unless/until you experience it yourself.

I didn't even look, honestly. I'm not really bummed at all. I'm more bummed that I haven't had time to go to the gym.

I looked directly at it. It was also totally overcast and I saw a fuzzy circular blob where the sun was.

Although it was a lot darker you couldn't tell if it was because it was about to storm or because of something else. The giveaway came later when it went back to being a totally clear day.

I agree. At 99% I was like "Oh, this is pretty neat." When it went into totality, though, I gasped audibly and spent the next two minutes with a big old stupid grin on my face. Probably the coolest thing I've ever seen.

I can now see how in olden times they thought the world was ending.

I glanced at it when it wasn't a total eclipse. I also looked at without glasses on when it was in the total eclipse and had the glasses. I would say that with the naked eye it was hard to make out jack shit until the moon was almost entirely over the sun. It is just that bright.
