Pep Boys Ripped Me Off

I dont want to believe this.

I went to pep boys, an auto parts store/garage, and got a tune up.

explicitly I went for new spark plugs. they told me my gasket was leaky, which it was. I told them I wasnt getting it done that day, and certainly not for the 300 they wanted.

I got it fixed up at another shop, and when I was still having issues with a misfire I checked the damn things myself. They installed a bad spark plug; one that looks like they purposely fucking damaged. Complete with touching bitties and wear on the top by the plug itself. Fuck them.

Take the plug and talk to the store manager.

if you are in a real bind, get some sand paper and lightly file the area between the top of the plug and the electrode.

I've never had an issue with anything more than overcautious recommendations before.
the one I went to is ... in a worse off City. and the concensious is that this specific shop isthe fault

I got a new one and some cash back from them. They had the nerve to tell me they didnt install it, and certainly not on friday when I said they did. they were very mean.


But, couldnt you bend the top of the plug off the electrode?

nah, it's generally pretty rigid, and sand paper is thin enough to do the job. The sand paper would bend before the metal part (it isn't stiff like cardboard), unless you were trying to bend thing off. Again, how the hell are you conceiving of sanding something with paper? You are rubbing it across a surface, not using pliers.
