How you came up with your username

I've seen a lot of interesting usernames on here and I'm curious to know what they mean/how they were created.

I came up with this one long before I joined MS, but the reasons were: I'm a huge Agents of SHIELD fan. Sparkles is a nickname that some of my IRL friends used to call me. I really liked how it sounded put together and ta-da.

mastin2, my original username on the internet, originated from a portmanteau name with one of my favorite numbers (2) attached to it.
Everyone kept calling me Mastin, and so too did I begin to just call myself Mastin, capital M and without the 2, so when I first signed up on mafiascum, it was as Mastin.
I later for a bundleload of reasons switched

back

to having it be mastin2. (So yes. mastin2 predates Mastin, and I have the website to prove it since the battleon forums are still functioning and my account there is still theoretically valid.)

pirate mollie, from that point, ended up developing the nickname mastina.
That name spread to others including, eventually, myself, so I made a second (and final) account switch.

The Drealmer is a character in a video game called Noctropolis and I appropriated the word back in the mid 90s to use as my username. I use a lowecase 'd' and it is meant to be a noun meaning "someone who enters other's dreams and influences, manipulates, or takes over their dreams." (the character was a bad guy, but the word as I use it is not intended to have any bad connotation.)

If you take my DNA and sequence it into binary and then run it through a deserializing algorithm you get some nonsense which is very similar to the word Tonka. Tonka is a company that's well known for their toy trucks, which are commonly made of a variant of plastic only found in Chicago. In 2016 I met fellow mafiascum user Empire in Chicago. He suggested that I should use a stupid username like "Cheetory" and I tried it but it was already taken so I tried Cheetory1, but it was already taken so I tried Cheetory2, but it was already taken so I tried Cheetory3, but it was already taken so I tried Cheetory4, but it was already taken so I tried Cheetory5, but it was already taken so I tried Cheetory6, but it was already taken so I killed the user who had it previously and assumed his identity.

Also, Aristophanes is based on the comedic playwright of olde! I learned anout him extensively in my Ancient Greek Comedians class not long before I joined forums (damned Uni friends got me into Mafia, Cheeto brought me to this hellhole a year or so later ). I like it and have adopted it as my online persona! It fits my cheerfulness, my hidden deepness, and displays my findness for ancient Greek culture!

it's the sort of "generic" that works because it's so general and ambiguous it leaves a lot to the imagination and becomes intriguing

Funnily I got told my username has some incidental reference to hanging in another language, but that wasn't it - although that's amazingly appropriate!

so raskolnikov is from dostoevsky's crime and punishment, basically a poor former student who gets lost in his overthinking and theorising and the gist of it is he tries to be his version of an ubermensch and fails. he kills someone to prove he's not beholden to common morality and rules, and considers the target as being such a drain on society he reasons its obviously a net good and the end justifies the means. he gets guilty, realises he isn't and can't be an ubermensch and he doesn't really believe all his justification so he confesses eventually, takes the punishment and reconciles with society. totally butchered that but whatever. the character really resonates with me, especially regarding not getting too detached from the world around you and acting in good faith and genuinely. also fits the mafia theme very well but I've used it before so that's coincidental. that said, would probably take the underground man's name instead if he had one.

I was playing SuperTux and saw those little ice cube dudes running around. I liked them, so I thought I should use one of them as my avatar somewhere. Then I decided to sign up for MafiaScum and just selected my username to go with it.
