Green Shirt Thursdays

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu Jan 24, 2008 4:21 pm

I don't remember if I ever made a thread about this or not, but GST is pretty awesome. And it's important to me. And I've managed to instill it in the minds of a few ScumChatters, but I found out today that depressingly few of them uphold the tradition.

Anyway, GST was a tradition started by a handful of St. Louis University High cross-country (SLUH XC) guys back in 2001. For nearly seven years, they've been wearing Green Shirt Thursdays mostly for its own sake. When these students graduated from high school, they took the tradition with them to college, and at UD one such student got.... nearly a hundred of us, I'd say... involved in GST. We even had shirts made and everything. And to this day most of us still uphold the tradition. We spread it around, too... I got everybody at my old coffee shop to wear Green Shirts on Thursdays, and I would tell customers about it when they saw my GST shirt and asked.

You can learn more about GST by checking out this website (which also has archives of weekly GST messages sent by JMK to everyone he knew via AIM): http://greenshirtthursdays.blogspot.com/

So, um, yeah. Wear Green Shirts each and every Thursday. They give you awesome superpowers, incredibly good luck, and they just might save the world someday. You never know. :)

If there is a medium, hit me up.

Also I wrote a song. To the tune only of Friday I'm in love.

Code: Select all

I don't care if Sunday's blue
Monday's grey and Tuesday too
Wednesday I don't care about you
It's Thursday, I'm in green

Sunday you can fall apart
Monday, Tuesday break my heart
Oh, Wednesday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in green

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Thursday, never hesitate...

I don't care if Sundays black
Monday, Tuesday - heart attack
Wednesday, never looking back
It's Friday, I'm in green

Sunday, you can hold your head
Monday, Tuesday stay in bed
Or Wednesday - watch the walls instead
It's Thursday, I'm in green

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Thursday, never hesitate...

Dressed up to the eyes
It's a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a shriek
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
Cuz Thursday, I'm in green
Surfs up dude.

Now, when you say "green shirt", what does that mean, specifically. In the UK, "shirt" implies starched collar, button-down, cotton or linen; male office wear. If, on the other hand, you mean "top" by shirt, I have green tops I could wear on Thursdays; t-shirts, cowl-neck jerseys, a cardigan...

Would that be acceptable, must it fit into "t-shirt, shirt or blouse" or must it be full-on button-down collar whole nine yardsy?

If the US shirt just generally means something that you wear over the top of your body. It actually has a pretty informal connotation.

Then what's the term for a cotton/linen (nonstretch) button-down collared shirt (usually white or pastel) such that men wear to the office?

I mainly own green shirts, so I probably already do this a large percentage of the time.
Currently busy 7 days a week. Will post regularly though.

...Shirt.

There's, of course, many different subcategories, such as t-shirt, Polo, turtleneck, etc., but they're all just shirts. Things that you wear over your shirt, like a jacket, aren't a shirt, but things that you wear over an undershirt (another type of shirt!) are shirts.

I'm like Rogueban, I own alot of green as it is. And IIRC i did where green yesterday. If I feel like it I can easily support this tradition.

Maybe we should post pictures of our green shirts next week. I have four green shirts. I could do this.

Although, two of those shirts have Smurfs on them. I don't know if I'm going to wear those.

Like Shea said, "shirt" covers just about everything that covers your torso/chest/ect.

I have two green dress shirts for work, a few green t-shirts, a green pullover, a green sweater, and a few more, in different styles.

informally, a shirt covers just about everything but a blouse

however, it really means button down and collared, and is separated into casual and dress shirts

It's so funny how I ask a question and four separate guys answer it, even though it's been answered in the posts above.

What's the word for that?
